You should watch all of the demos before starting the homework, and also you should draw along with the demos (specially the newer ones)

Hello there, i think you are right, so i did my best to try and give me more time for executing this exercise and i feel like these are better done but i still don't feel like i understand completely the textures/shadows. Here's my revision: https://imgur.com/a/lVwo2rQ i really appreciate your patience and DrawABox as a whole, thanks a lot.

Yeah, that's way better, try varying the degree (width) of the ellipses in the warm-ups.

    Next Steps:

Go ahead to the 250 boxes challenge, continue doing the Lesson 1 exercises as warm-ups.

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

Hello there and welcome to Draw A Box, i will be making your critique.

Let's see how you did ;)

superimposed lines These are overall well done, they have a notable amount of fraying at the end but that's something you will be improving with the warm-ups.

Ghosted lines These are well done too, they look smooth and confident.

Ghosted Planes These look very well done, most of the lines are confidenty drawn and look smooth, but some of them are arching a little bit, arching is usually a sign that you are not using your shoulder as mush as you should but instead using your elbow or your wrist.

Tables of Ellipses Your ellipses look smooth and confident, but they are not touching each other nor the edges of the squares. You should do your best to make sure the ellipses are tidy, touching each other and touching the edges of the square like in the Example homework

Ellipses in Planes You did well in this one, most of them are smooth and confident, but some of them are failing in touching the edges of the planes, you should work in this in the warm-ups.

Funnels The ellipses look smooth and confident in this one, they are tidy, touching each other and are fitting inside the Funnels, but some of them are not aligning to the minor axis, you should do your best to make sure they align the most to the minor.

Plotted Perspective This exercise is well done.

Rough Perspective The boxes look well constructed, some of them are not very smooth and some of the line don't converge at the same vanishing point but this is something you will get better at with the warm-ups and the 250 boxes challenge.

Rotated Boxes This exercise is a hard one, but you did a pretty well job, the lines look smooth and confident and are well rotated.

Organic Perspective You did a great job with this one too lines look smooth and confident, you will practice a lot with proportions and rotations in the 250 boxes.

Overall a solid submission, but i would like to see one more page of Tables Ellipses where your ellipses are snuggly fitted, touching each other and touching the edges of the rectangles.

    Next Steps:

1 page of the Tables of Ellipses exercise.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

PureRef

This is another one of those things that aren't sold through Amazon, so I don't get a commission on it - but it's just too good to leave out. PureRef is a fantastic piece of software that is both Windows and Mac compatible. It's used for collecting reference and compiling them into a moodboard. You can move them around freely, have them automatically arranged, zoom in/out and even scale/flip/rotate images as you please. If needed, you can also add little text notes.

When starting on a project, I'll often open it up and start dragging reference images off the internet onto the board. When I'm done, I'll save out a '.pur' file, which embeds all the images. They can get pretty big, but are way more convenient than hauling around folders full of separate images.

Did I mention you can get it for free? The developer allows you to pay whatever amount you want for it. They recommend $5, but they'll allow you to take it for nothing. Really though, with software this versatile and polished, you really should throw them a few bucks if you pick it up. It's more than worth it.
