Hi! I'm very much a beginner who just completed lesson 1 as well, so feel free to take this all with a grain of salt, but I got feedback on needing to work on my ellipses, so I figured I'd share what I've been working on that I feel has been paying off.

I was told to focus less on accuracy while I work on getting smooth shapes (which has helped a ton.) But also what I've really focused on was my shoulder. It was more intuitive for me to do it with lines, but with my shoulder I kind of imagined that a teacher was guiding my arm -- so I loosed up my wrist, my grip on the pen, everything, and really made circles with my shoulder. When I'm able to release the rest of my arm, I'm able to get some decent looking ellipses. (That and the ghosting, of course.)

I'd suggest you try one more table of ellipses just to see what you can get done there. (I'm pretty impressed with your rotated boxes, gotta say! That's a toughie.)

    Next Steps:

Try one more table of ellipses for some smooth shapes.

    Hi chakinwater,

    LINES

SUPERIMPOSED LINES: Little wobble present, otherwise it is good and draw with confidence.

GHOSTED LINES : They are great and no wobble

PLANES :It is good, but somtime it has little overshoot and finally it is great

    ELLIPSE

ELLIPSE IN TABLE : They are confident, ghosted well, less smooth and sometimes it get overlapped. but it is good with practice and muscle memory.

ELLIPSE IN PLANES : They are confident and smooth, but they are not touching the four points on the planes in some areas, you have to ghost it properly to achieve the result.

ELLIPSE IN FUNNEL : It cuts the ellipses into two equal haves in minor axis,it is great you have done with confident

    BOXES

    PLOTTED PERSPECTIVE: They are good

ROUGH PERSPECTIVE :your width lines and height lines are perfectly parallel and perpendicular to the horizon. so it is good.

ROTATED BOXES :It is not good, the spacing between the backface (corner) of the boxes, the lines are wobble , not confident, with practice you can do very well, you have to redo the rotated boxes.

ORGANIC PERSPECTIVE: The scaling should be done and the boxes and little bit clumsy, you can overcome by practice and you will achieve your perfect boxes in 250 box challenge.

    All the Best

    Cheers,

Hiya, I noticed that some of the circles on your funnels aren't centered. Make sure that the axis of the funnel cuts the circle in half. Other than that, it looks pretty good. You'll get the practice you need for boxes by doing the 250 box challenge.

    Next Steps:

Go on to the 250 box challenge

Hello, I'll take a look at your assignment. The superimposed lines are good. I recomend taking a little more time lining up your initial points. The strokes are a little shaky but that's likely the result of drawing from the shoulder for the first time. For the ghosted lines, I recommend drawing a few longer strokes in the future to help practice. Overall they look good though. Likewise the planes are good.

Moving onto the ellipses, the confidence that you draw most of them with is good. You also manage to hit a good variety of shapes. However, many of your edges overlap with the neighbor which seems to be a deliberate decision in many spots. You should try to hit the edges of each neighbor and edges of the boxes to practice drawing the ellipse. I recommend ghosting them a few times beforehand to get better at that. The funnels are pretty good besides the aforementioned issues.

Finally, the boxes. Your hatched lines in the plotted perspectives are a little rushed at time. If you're going to hatch you should apply the same level of ghosting that you do for other lines. Your rough perspective does a good job of starting to hone in on the VP. It's true that your rotated boxes aren't perfect but this exercise is intentionally hard. I can see that you're making progress on understanding the perspective. Just remember to focus on the edge boxes continuing to curl. Your top right one has the right orientation, it just extends too much. Your organic perspective is not bad. Just take your time a little on the boxes and don't be afraid to aim for larger scales (i.e. bigger boxes in the foreground and even smaller in the background).

I think you did well on this assignment. You should do the 250 box challenge to practice further before hitting Lesson 2.

    Hello Marcelina,

    Lines

Superimposed and ghosted lines look nice, although there is some arching. Make shure you are using your shoulder to draw, also try do more variety in the size.

    Elipses

Your planes look good but there is more wobblying in them , remember confidance over accuracy, this is also notisable on your elipses. While they are very accurate they are also very wobbly. I cant stress enogh how important it is to focus on the fluidity of the line/elipse over the accuracy, you will miss, but accuracy will come in time and repetition.

Also focusing too much on touching the edges makes elipses look more square like.

    Funnels are very nicely aligned.

    Boxes

Rotated boxxes is a very difficult excercise, there are quite a few issues here but over time you will improve so dont worry. First your corners are not aligned for the most part, the spaces in between boxes should be equidistant and aligned ttps://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/9a16c189.jpg . Also some boxes seem to not be rotating https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/d73eea49.jpg id recomend reading the boxes section again carefully before moving forward.

On organic perspective i notice you did some "corrections" by drawing over your mistakes, dont do this , you need to see your mistakes and then move on, dont dwell on them nor skratch them off, it can make it harder to see them.

Over all i think this is a very nice first lesson, you still have a long way to go but that is completly normal, this is not an easy course, it is very repetitive so if you dont usually DRAW for fun, you should start, even if the result is not "perfect" (whatever that means to you) you should do it and have FUN, just like when colouring. Remember the 50 50 rule (50% drawing for fun and 50% course work)

    Next Steps:

Move forward with 250 Box challenge, read over the box section carefully and remember the 50 50 rule particularlly for this challenge. Good luck

    Hii Madhero

    Lines

Superimposed lines: i can find some of ur lines are in arc shape u should draw it with ur shoulders it might be uncomfortable but with a little bit of practice u will find it easy and ur lines are wobble and not confident and not continuous try to draw it bit continuous and faster than normal speed (but not superfast)

Ghosted lines: Some of ur lines doesnot have ending point. each lines should have both starting and ending points. and they also wobbles here is a tip try to lift ur pen before reaching the ending point if might avoid wobling and overshooting

Ghosted Planes: in planes ur lines are overshooting apply ghosted lines method here

    Ellipse

Ellipse in planes: they are wobble and not confident so ghost ur ellipse before drawing ellipse so u can achieve confident ellipse. Ellipse might take little bit time compare to lines so take ur time

Ellipse in tables: 99% percentage of ur ellipse are good and continuous but the problem is ur ellipse should touch each other but should not overlap and some of them exceeds ur table borders, better way to avoid this is, do proper ghosting.

Ellipse in funnel: dont leave space between the ellipses and try to draw each ellipse that should touch other ellipse and border of the funnel and u should draw both center vertical and horizontal lines and the purpose of this exercise is that ur center minor axis cuts all the ellipses in equal half

    Boxes

Rough perspective: u have to extend ur lines from edges in the back face of the box to the horizon so that u might identify the angle of its depth (boxes) and make sure ur vertical and horizontal lines are parallel and perpendicular to ur horizon

Rotated box: it is incomplete. The purpose is, as u continuously drawn the plotted and rough perspective ur mind will automatically tuned to one or two point perspective but unfortunately things in our real world comes different vanishing points so this exercise breaks the rule and it helps ur mind to imagine that there are so many vps in ur page. Dont worry about ur boxes u can achieve perfect boxes in 250 box challenge

    Plotted perspective: they are good

Organic perspective: the purpose of this exercise is, understanding as the distance increases from the viewer the object become smaller gradually . Some of ur boxes does not come under this rule. even the boxes are larger than the boxes that are in front of it.

    All the best

    Next Steps:

    redo ur lesson 1

a small tip dont concentrate on accuracy. purpose of every exercises are important

    All the best

    Cheers

    Hey Monoclod!

    Here is my critique,

    SUPERIMPOSED LINES

When you did this exercise did you rotate the page to get a more comfortable angle for your arm?

If not that may greatly help. Make sure to do that with all the other exercises as well.

Just keep doing this exercise as a warm up!

    ELIPSES

Really nice job with th elipses table, very clean. I also see your improvements with the elipses in planes on the second page. Keep working on that! With the funnels, a clean neat base for the funnel will make it easier when putting elipses in them. Some of your funnels were off making it hard to get the elipses aligned. Foundations are very important in anything you do.

    ROTATED BOXES

This exercise is always a tough one haha. You did a pretty good job. Make sure to increase the rate of convergence as you rotate the box. If you dont do that the boxes that you "rotated' will still have the same VP.

WIth the other exercises, just remember you can rotate the page and as you keep working your lines will get more and more confident!

    Good luck!

    Next Steps:

Keep doing these exercises as warm ups!

And move on to the 250 box challenge!!

Hey! It's cool to see your progress from the very first exercise (just the lines) to the planes; it looks like maybe you felt more confident with drawing lines quickly and steadily by the time you got to that one, which is great.

It looks as though drawing ellipses comes more naturally to you than straight lines (the opposite of me!); your ellipses feel loose and smooth, but you seem less sure for the perspective/box exercises. Your actual non-guided perspective exercise has some really good guesses for vanishing points, but it seems like you were focusing more on getting the perspective right than drawing strong, confident lines (not that it's right or wrong to focus more on one or the other). I am sure the line confidence will come with time.

    Nice job!

    Hi.

    This is my critque:

    Lines

Superimposed Lines: Good job on starting your lines directly on the point. The lines also look fairly confident. They still fray a lot but that will improve with practice.

Ghosted Lines: Most of the lines seems very nice but also you could've been more ambitious with the lenght. It is a good advice to warm up with this kind of ghosted lines.

Ghosted Planes: The ghosted planes seems very aceptable. A little comment, try to do the black dots smaller. They are way to big. This affect the overall apperance of the planes. Sometimes your lines wobble a lot, more frequently that in the ghosted lines.

    Ellipses

Tables: In this case your ellipses are very uneven. They are suppose to be in the same angle. Essentially you are trying to adjust each ellipse with the other ellipses that surround it. It seems also that you rush while doing them. Try to take your take and do them patiently.

Planes: The ellipses inside the planes look aceptable but they lack a lot of accuracy. This is difficult to achieve and a way to improve them is to practice them while you warm up for your lesson.

Funnels: There some problems with your funnels:

    • Your ellipses are mostly in the same degree. I just read that this is not mandatory. It is optional and it is more optional if you are struggling with keeping them align.

    • Your ellipses are not very align with the minor axis.

    Boxes

    Rotated boxes:

    • Your rotated boxes looks very unclear. One of the instructions in the homework include to add some line weight to the fronts faces to make the boxes looks more clear. Look:

    https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/16/step9

    • There are some boxes that are not really rotating. Look:

    https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/16/notrotating

Plotted Perspective, rough Perspective, organic Perspective:

Here we have a bit of a problem. It seems like you did not watch the videos for these lesson. Each sheet is suppose to have three divisions so you will do the exercises three times for each page. You did all of them once in each page. So you still have work to do.

    Next Steps:

The Plotted Perspective, rough Perspective, organic Perspective are incomplete and they should be finished.

I also think that you should repeat the tables of ellipses exercises, at leat one more page, try to do it patiently.

We you complete the homework i can give you the rest of the critique.
