Judging from what you have here, you're off to a good start with Drawabox.

Your boxes are alright, with some issues. In the rough perspective, some of your horizontal lines aren't parallel to the horizon. Your vertical ones are mostly perpendicular to the horizon, which is good.

Your rotated boxes exercise is great; the boxes rotate properly and are kept close to each other.

The boxes are not quite as solid on the organic perspective exercise.

The ellipses are solid overall. You draw through them and largely keep them within their bounds, outside of a couple here and there.

Lines are where I believe you have the most room to improve. You show clear improvement with line confidence in the ghosted planes exercise; however, in the line exercises before that and some of the box exercises afterwards, your line confidence could be better. I see a fair bit of wobble in your lines.

    Next Steps:

I think that you should move on to the 250 box section. Drawing the boxes will help you to improve your line confidence and box construction.

I also recommend you incorporate some of the simpler exercises, like the ghosted planes and the funnels. This is recommended in here: https://drawabox.com/comic/2

I've been doing some of the simpler exercises as warmups since I finished lesson 1, and I think they're a great help.

    Keep up the good work.

Okay, so in the Superimposed Lines exercise there is some arching in longer lines, remember that this might happen when you don't fully use your shoulder pivot, if you use your shoulder pivot correctly then try to arch the lines consciously in the opposite direction.

There are also some wobbles, so keep in mind to focus on confidence first, the accuracy will come with practice.

For the Ghosted Lines exercise there are some wobbles, so same as above - confidence first.

For Ghosted Planes there is some arching when connecting corners, so same as above, try to arch them in the opposite direction.

I can also give you a tip which helped me - next time you draw lines pay attention whether you tilt your head to the sides.

For Ellipses in Planes there are some wobbles so remember to plan ahead with ghosting how you would like your ellipse to look like, then execute them without hesitation.

For Funnels remember that you want the minor axis (the longer line in this exercise) to cut your ellipses in symmetrical halves.

For Organic Perspective remember not to redraw lines of the boxes.

    Hi!

    Lines

They generally look good. You followed the instructions and kept them consistent and nicely flowing, for the superimposed lines I would suggest doing more curves (try like S shapes to) but really nothing to worry deeply about. For some of the lines on the planes and ghosted lines exercise there's a tiny curvature that may be the result of holding the pen too tightly. Keep in mind that tension doesn't increase accuracy and a relaxed wrist is a happy non tendinitis wrist! And one last bit that is never bad do reinforce, for the times you overshoot the dots try to lift your pen out of the page immediately after reaching the end point, may help.

    Ellipses

The tables look neat and clean, you understood the main gist of the exercise by mostly respecting the boundaries, not overlapping too much and strived to keep them fitting tightly, it shows that you payed attention. Same goes for the funnels exercise, however the minor axis line should cut the ellipses in two different halves and sometimes the line itself is not 'perfect' aligned with the funnel but its just a reminder more than anything else. One last thing is that some ellipses look like you drawn a million times over rather than 3~4 but for real I'm not sure if that checks, anyway make sure to not do a million times.

    Boxes

This section is mostly to help introducing you to the concept of 3D space and the position of objects in said space therefore as long as you followed the instructions and did not deviate from the path you're good. The boxes on the rough perspective have way more wobbly lines than the previous ones, I get it. There's much more room for hesitation here than just drawing straight lines and planes because there are more lines and more angles to connect and make sense within each other therefore the ghosting method here is essential to develop confidence when executing the lines.

I see that the organic perspective has much more confident and consistent line work in the boxes, good job! This is hard and some boxes vary too little in size for some cases, at least not enough to make it relevant, but for now it is pretty ok.

    Final thoughts

You understood the purpose of the lesson as a whole and for me you're good to proceed to teh 250 box challenge! Good Luck!

    Next Steps:

Next stop 250 box challenge! Good luck, drink water, relax your wrist and don't grind!

Hi. It's nice to see your work. I noticed that are some of the pages missing for the lesson to be complete. it's missing 1 page of organics perspective and 1 page of rough perspective.

I would like to point some things that i can see. Hope that helps you and doesn't sounds hurtting. English it's not my language so I'm afraid it may be harsh.

Your lines in general are woobling. In drawabox you should always prioritize confidence over accuracy. Maybe you could practice this more in some warm ups. Try to do it quick and confident. Your accuracy will improve with practice.

Another thing that i notice is in your ellipses. you have the tendency to incline them to a side, so they dont aligned to the minor axis. Your tables of ellipses are really well but you can notice it at the funnels.

About the rough perspective ...keep present that the boxes should be aligned with your horizontal line. As such, all of the vertical lines in the front face of boxes will run perpendicular to the horizon, and all of the horizontal lines will run parallel to it, leaving only one set of lines that converges. Also when your ploting your lines with a different colour pen, you should not be plotting these lines back to the VP - just to the horizon line. This will show you a concrete idea of how far off you were.

On the rotated boxes some boxes aren't rotating. This image can help. https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/d73eea49.jpg

Also, you want to keep the corner of your boxes close to each other to keep the orden.

So that the lesson could be marked as complete some homeworks.

°1 page of ghosted lines. Try to do it with confidence.

    °1 page of rough perspective.

°1 page of organics perspective that it's missing .

I hope to see more from you. Keep the good work!.

    Next Steps:

°1 page of ghosted lines. Try to do it with confidence.

    °1 page of rough perspective.

°1 page of organics perspective that it's missing .

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

in your rotated boxes exercise, there is very little rotation on the boxes. https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/d73eea49.jpg

however, it looks like your spacing is consistent.

this should help you a lot for the rotated boxes exercise: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/368870697742630912/715669112222908466/zfr3o7xneog31.png

a small nitpick about your organic perspective is that a lot of your boxes have the same original "Y" shape and as a result you made a lot of boxes with a very similar rotation. since there's supposed to be two pages of this exercise, one page of organic perspective missing. you should do the second page with last point in mind, and i recommend you try this tool out to help you come up with random "Y" shapes: https://tasty-tangy-meeting.glitch.me/

once you're done, you should have a better understanding of boxes in 3D space and i would recommend you try out the rotated boxes again especially with the additional help i shared with you at the beginning.

Sketching: The Basics

Sketching: The Basics

A lot of folks have heard about Scott Robertson's "How to Draw" - it's basically a classic at this point, and deservedly so. It's also a book that a lot of people struggle with, for the simple reason that they expect it to be a manual or a lesson plan explaining, well... how to draw. It's a reasonable assumption, but I've found that book to be more of a reference book - like an encyclopedia for perspective problems, more useful to people who already have a good basis in perspective.

Sketching: The Basics is a far better choice for beginners. It's more digestible, and while it introduces a lot of similar concepts, it does so in a manner more suited to those earlier in their studies.
