hi! im cloud and ill be critiquing your work

    Lines

    Superimposed Lines

your lines seem confident and fraying is mostly only observed on the far side, which is ok for now

    Ghosted Lines

your lines are very straight and dont tend to arc or bow, which is good

    Ghosted Planes

same notes for the ghosted lines as from the ghosted lines segments

    Ellipses

    Table of Ellipses

roughly same critiques for your ellipses as from the ellipses in planes segment, although i should note some do look a little more uneven than others so do make sure to take time with each ellipse you draw

    Ellipses in Planes

your ellipses are smoothly drawn and evenly shaped, are drawn through twice, they also tend to stay within the bounds of the boxes so good work

    Funnels

roughly same critiques as from the ellipses in planes segment, ellipses are mostly following the minor axis well and are snug against eachother and the funnel walls

    Boxes

    Plotted Perspective

your horizontal lines are correctly plotted back to the vanishing points, and the vertical lines are parallel, which is good

    Rough Perspective

your lines all seem to be ghosted properly, and it shows that you understand the assignment well

    Rotated Boxes

the gaps between your boxes are tight, they are drawn through, and are rotated in 3d space so good work here

    Organic Perspective

your boxes converge properly, and the lines making up those boxes seem to all be ghosted properly

from what i can gather, you seem to be ready for the 250 box challenge! also do add these exercises to your warmup pool

    Next Steps:

add these exercises to your warmup pool and continue to the 250 box challenge.

    alright, thanks for the critique!

i do agree with this critique, but to the critiquer, it would help in the future to be more specific with what is good about how a certain homework was completed rather than just saying "good". you can refer to the critique guides for each lesson to get more specific details to inspect and comment on.

    ill take a look

    LINES

    Superimposed Lines

lines are drawn with confidence and don’t wobble

    doesn’t fray on both sides

    Ghosted Lines

lines are drawn with confidence, don’t wobble or bow

    Ghosted Planes

    same as ghosted lines

overall: lines are straight, confidently drawn, and dont bow, so good work on those!

    ELLIPSES

    Table of Ellipses

ellipses are being drawn through twice as instructed

ellipses are snug against the borders of the table

ellipses are drawn smoothly and are evenly shaped

    Ellipses in Planes

    same as table of ellipses

ellipses show intent to be snug against the planes, although there are some ellipses that miss faces

    Funnels

ellipses are being drawn through twice as instructed

ellipses are touching sides of funnels

ellipses are aligned to the minor axis

overall: ellipses are cleanly drawn, smooth and even so nice work!

    BOXES

    Plotted Perspective

ruler has been used for line work

    verticals are perpendicular to horizon

horizontal edges have been plotted to vanishing points correctly

    Rough Perspective

one vanishing points has been used

front and back faces of boxes are rectangular

line extensions have been applied correctly

note: i see you made your line extensions in black, just for this exercise it should be fine but for the 250 box challenge try to get 3 differently colored pens for the line extensions

    ghosting method has been applied

    Rotated Boxes

core steps of exercise have been followed

gaps between boxes are tight and consistent

boxes are rotating in 3d space

    boxes have been drawn through

from what i can see, the 4 outermost corner boxes have been missed so do try to complete those

    Organic Perspective

    ghosting method has been applied

lines converge properly, although there are some divergences here and there so do be attentive in the future to make sure that parallel lines in 3d space converge with eachother

overall: your boxes are cleanly drawn and converge well so good work on those!

    Next Steps:

you can move on to the 250 box challenge, and add all of lesson 1's exercises to your warm up pool. good luck!

    i’ll peep it

    LINES

    Superimposed Lines

    • lines are drawn with confidence and don’t wobble

    • doesn’t fray on both sides

    Ghosted Lines

    • lines are drawn with confidence, don’t wobble or bow

    Ghosted Planes

    • same as ghosted lines

overall: your lines are confident, straight, and down wobble or bow so good work!

    ELLIPSES

    Table of Ellipses

    • ellipses are being drawn through twice as instructed

    • ellipses are snug against the borders of the table

    • ellipses are drawn smoothly and are evenly shaped

    Funnels

    • ellipses are being drawn through twice as instructed

    • ellipses are touching sides of funnels

    • ellipses are aligned to the minor axis

overall: your ellipses are smooth and evenly shaped, you also don’t have much problems fitting them inside contained areas so good job!

    BOXES

    Plotted Perspective

    • ruler has been used for line work

    • verticals are perpendicular to horizon

    • horizontal edges have been plotted to vanishing points correctly

    Rough Perspective

    • one vanishing points has been used

    Rotated Boxes

    • core steps of exercise have been followed

    • gaps between boxes are tight and consistent

    • boxes have been drawn through

    • all boxes of the set have been drawn

    Organic Perspective

    • ghosting method has been applied

    • lines converge properly

    • additional note: your boxes are good, but for the 250 box challenge it would help to vary the angles between the 3 lines of your Ys from the y method to create varied box angles

overall: you show understanding in how vanishing points work, how to freehand convergences, and how to construct boxes in 3d space so good work!

    Next Steps:

from your work, i think you are ready to go into the 250 box challenge, and you can add all of lesson 1’s exercises into your warm up pool. good luck!

    ill take a peek

        **Lines**

    Superimposed Lines

on the first page most of the medium sized lines look a little wobbly, and the shorter ones especially so

the second page looks less wobbly and more confident which is good

fraying amount is expected for both pages so i dont have a concern with that - "Fraying on the far side is fine, and is most likely going to occur if the student is executing their marks confidently and maintaining a consistent trajectory throughout the stroke."

    Ghosted Lines

lines are smooth, straight, but tend to miss or overshoot one of the two points

from https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/ghostedlines/levels , i think you would be level 2, so overshooting and missing the 2nd point is expected

    Ghosted Planes

lines are smooth, straight, and dont overshoot or miss much

        **Ellipses**

    Tables of Ellipses

    circles are smooth, evenly shaped

some overshoot bounding area, but is alright as shown by https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/ghostedlines/levels and critique guide, "If they're trying to fit them snugly but simply aren't able to get the marks to fall where they want, that's okay."

    Ellipses in Planes

same critiques as from Tables of Ellipses

    Funnels

circles are snug against eachother and the funnels

circles are well aligned with the minor axis

        **Boxes**

    Plotted Perspective

verticals are perpendicular to horizon, horizontals are plotted to vanishing points as instructed

    Rough Perspective

vanishing point is near the center as instructed

front and back faces are rectangular

    line extensions are applied correctly

lines on first page are good, but are wobbly on 2nd page -- i think you might not have been applying the ghosting method as thoroughly as you couldve been for the 2nd page, so do review the steps of the ghosting method so you can apply it effectively in the future

    Rotated Boxes

    instructions have been followed thoroughly

    gaps between boxes are consistent

boxes are rotating in 3d space

    boxes are being drawn through

i think the 2 bottom corner boxes have been missed, so do complete those before moving on

    Organic Perspective

    ghosting method is visible

parallel edges are diverging as supposed to

foreshortening is limited to reasonable degree as supposed to

not from the critique guide, but boxes are quite similar to eachother rotationally, so for the 250 box challenge try to vary the shape of the y from the y method to create variation in box shape and angle

    Next Steps:

looks like to me you're ready for the 250 box challenge, and as such these exercises will be added to your warm up pool. good luck!

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

On the flipside, they tend to be on the cheaper side of things, so if you're just getting started (beginners tend to have poor pressure control), you're probably going to destroy a few pens - going cheaper in that case is not a bad idea.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
