Congrats on taking your time with completing this lesson, I'll be critiquing your work.

    Lines

Overall your lines are quite confident, though they arch slightly at times.

Your Superimposed Lines are great, though there are some lines that have slight fraying (though it may just be the arch of some lines, which is another issue).

Regarding your Ghosted Lines, the same issue of slight arching is in this exercise.

Your Planes are accurately divided which means you are taking the time to consider each line and using the ghosting method.

    Ellipses

Your Tables of Ellipses is quite good, most ellipses fit quite snugly and do not overlap, though some do not touch as well and have some gaps that can easily be filled with smaller ellipses. I would encourage you to only do one more page filled completely, as you have demonstrated that your ellipses are all drawn with purpose.

Your Ellipses in Planes are very good, as each ellipse is gone through twice. Some are a little distorted but they fit quite nicely into the planes.

The Ellipses in your Funnels are mostly symmetrical and are quite in tandem with the axis of said funnels.

    Boxes

Regarding Rough Perspective, you have done an good job aligning your lines of the boxes to the horizon, though very few of your lines fall short of wobbliness.

The Rotated Boxes challenge is quite difficult as expected, and you've done quite well, as you've shown to take the time to hatch lines within the boxes.

The Organic Perspective pages are also very good, they are densely packed with boxes and are overlapping. Your skills for this will improve greatly during the 250 boxes challenge, so do not worry too much about the rotations of your boxes.

    Next Steps:

Overall, you have done very well for this lesson, all I request is that you fill one page of the Tables of Ellipses exercise, keeping in mind to fill it up entirely and make sure your ellipses and touching snugly with one another. Try not to leave gaps.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hello, I'll be critiquing your work. Congratulations on finishing Lesson 1.

    Lines

In your Superimposed Lines exercise, some of your lines at the beginning fray a little. Remember to commit to the line and focus on placing your pen down near where the start is.

Taking your time to do so with every line helps. Remember that even if they fray away wildly at the end it's fine, but do not fray at the beginning.

Another thing is that they tend to arch upwards, especially on the first picture you've shown.

Making faster deliberate strokes would help, or to slightly arch your lines in the opposite direction. Remember that you should be comfortable enough to be doing these exercises and slow down.

Your Planes are not always accurately divided, and while it isn't too important, it should be worth nothing. Take your time to consider each line and remember the ghosting method.

I find that you aren't drawing enough planes to fill the page. While your planes are of varying sizes, there are huge gaps that you can fill with throughout the two pages you have shown.

    Ellipses

Your Tables of Ellipses are all filled up, and you seem to be drawing them about 2-3 times through, which is a good thing -- and you are prioritizing accuracy. However, most of your ellipses tend to overlap, and should instead be touching each other.

Your Ellipses in Planes are good, but as said above, you should draw more of them where they should fit the entire page.

The ellipses in your Funnels are mostly symmetrical and are generally in tandem with the axis, and are also drawn snugly. While the biggest one is wobbly due to the page not fitting, that isn't too much of an issue.

    Boxes

Regarding your Rough Perspective, some of your boxes width and height are not parallel to the horizon. It's okay to overshoot your the end point of your freehand lines, so long as you have a clear goal of where your line goes.

The Rotated Boxes challenge is very difficult so you should know that you've done a good job completing it. With that being said, while your rotations are good, there are quite a few gaps between the rotating boxes, when they should be narrower.

The Organic Perspective pages are both packed with an good amount of solid boxes. It's normal that this exercise is quite difficult.

    Next Steps:

Complete one more Superimposed Lines exercise focusing on making your lines straight(er), and two more Ellipses in Planes, focusing to fill up the entire page.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hello, I'll critique your partial lessons for what you have currently.

It is generally recommended that you complete all the lessons before submitting for homework, but community critiques are fine in this regard.

For your Superimposed Lines, there is fraying at both ends of the line, which means you aren't taking the time to set your pen at the right spot for where you start. Remember to take the time to set your pen in the right spot, and it is only okay to fray at the end of each line.

There are also slight wobbles in some lines that I see, which means you should try experimenting with different speeds as you may be slightly hesitating while drawing with your shoulder.

A few of your lines tend to arch away as well, which may mean hesitation, or you need to consciously slightly arch in the opposite direction when you draw your lines.

For your Ghosted Lines, you are taking the time to plot your lines, which is a good thing, though some of them do have slight wobbles. Take in mind what I have said above, and remember the ghosting method.

For your Ghosted Planes, they are generally fine aside from a few line wobbles. Do not worry keeping your lines centered, as this is not an exercise based on perspective for now -- it is just a bunch of lines on a flat page.

Remember: always prioritize confidence over accuracy, the confidence of your lines is what you should strive for. Over time, your accuracy will improve as you continue.

Hello PizzaPlease, thank you for taking the time to critique my work. I've done the revisions and did two more pages of the Tables of Ellipses exercise, keeping in mind on filling up the entire frames while trying to make the elipses snugly inside the frame. I find it harder to draw smaller ellipses when using my shoulder, but I do believe that comes with practice.

    Here are my pages:

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

On the flipside, they tend to be on the cheaper side of things, so if you're just getting started (beginners tend to have poor pressure control), you're probably going to destroy a few pens - going cheaper in that case is not a bad idea.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
