Hi! First of all, thanks for the thorough feedback! And sorry for taking so long to answer. These last couple weeks were kinda crazy at work and it was hard to find the time to properly sit down and do the lessons.

Here is the link for the drawings:

In this new submission, I tried to pay attention and address all the issues you pointed out. I really hope it has improved.

About the paper: I'm using smooth recycled A4 printer paper. Is it a problem? I have never noticed any difference between it and white paper in terms of drawing or writing. I would prefer to continue using it because I have lots of blank pages lying around l but if it is better for the lessons, I can try to buy some white paper.

Nice, just what I hoped for! Thanks!

Hey Tofu, thanks for the review!

Good to know I'm on the right track. I'll be sure to revisit these exercises while advancing through lesson 3. :)

Just go for it! The main ideia of drawing for fun is, well, having fun. This means using whatever medium you're most happy and comfortable with.

There are good reasons for these lessons being on ink but this only apply to the exercises in here. Your fun time is your time :)

Hi Benj, thanks for the critique!

Here are the pages you asked for:

Sorry for the missing page. I probably messed something up when uploading to imgur. This time all pages should be in there (I hope at least).

I tried to redo the funnels exercise with your comments in mind. It's far from perfect but I hope it got better. Your point about slowing down on the ellipses was really helpful. As it stands, I was kinda confusing "being confident" with "drawing as fast as I can"... I still have some problems with fitting the ellipses though. Even though I ghost touching the boundary of the previous ellipsis, when I'm really putting the ink on paper, mostly only one of my passes touches it.

    Thanks again!

Thanks! I really hope so haha

Well, I've decided to pledge anyway. With more 250 boxes or not.

    Thanks for the tips.

Yeah, starting all over probably makes the feedback overall more consistent.

    Hey randomy220!

I finished the texture analysis recently so I'm in no way a specialist. But I passed by the same frustation so I will try to explain what I did to improve.

The main thing in here is what @Uncomfortable says during the lesson: focus only on cast shadows.

Since real shadows are naturally a gradient of brigthness and we can only black and white, some textures will always look a little off.

So, I recommend you to try some "easy" textures such as cracks in a plain white wall.

Other thing that may help is rewatching the video for the texture analysis exercise while pausing to draw along.

Hope this is of any help :)

Hey hellozukohere, thank you so much for the critique!

I really liked your suggestion of plotting with a ruler and then gradually going moving towards freehanding everything. That's sure to help :)

And yeah, I was running out of fineliners and due to the pandemic (and a postal strike in my country), I'm completely unable to buy new ones... So I decide that extending my lines in pencil would be the best to save some ink.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
