Hello, I will be giving you my feedback regarding your homework. (make sure to apply the 50% rule if you don't already)

    Lines

At first, your lines are a little arched, but this decreases over time (but there is still a little arched: https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/ghostedlines/arc).

    Ellipses

Your ellipses are OK. I noticed that in the funnel exercise, they were a little misaligned with the center line.

    Boxes

You did a good job in all the exercises in this section, but you forgot to complete the rough perspective (you didn't do the line extension: https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/20/step9)

In this exercise, one of the boxes is rotated. This is a mistake as this exercise must be done at just one vanishing point and following the restrictions (https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/20/guessing). As this was a one-off, it will only be a point of attention.

Finish the exercise and submit it here when you're done.

    Next Steps:

Finish the rough perspective exercise, extending the lines.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

My honest feedback to your homework:

    Lines:

They look slightly arched to me. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/ghostedlines/arc

Your lines are smooth and without hesitation.

    Ellipses:

Your ellipses are very cool, I just noticed a slight misalignment in the funnel exercise, but you made a mistake trying to get it right.

    Boxes:

I noticed your difficulty in doing them freehand. Despite this, you did well applying the concepts learned so far (you will notice a big improvement during the 250 boxes challenge).

You did a great job. Proceed with the DAB, just don't forget to redo some of the exercises from this lesson as a warm-up before you start drawing (and be sure to apply the 50% rule to your routine).

    Next Steps:

    250 boxes challenge.

Don't give up and go ahead!!!

Hi, I'm going to give you my feedback on your homework. Are you ready? Let's start!

    Lines

At first, your lines are a little arched, but this decreases over time (but there is still a little arching:

    https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/ghostedlines/arc ).

    Ellipses

Good job drawing them. Even though there are mistakes, I saw that you are aware of them. The smoothness with which you draw the eilpses will improve with practice.

    Boxes:

Nothing to complain about. Your ability to draw boxes will improve significantly in the 250 boxes challenge.

Great job! I encourage you to continue DAB, move on to the 250 box challenge and continue with the 50% rule. Don't forget to redo these exercises as a warm-up before drawing.

    Next Steps:

    250 boxes challenge.

I'm very happy that you criticized my homework.

I'm sending an extra page, because when I went to draw it, I forgot that it only needed construction and I ended up adding some cast shadows. (My leaves exercise had more errors than the ones I flagged)

Thank you very much for the feedback! I will definitely take your tips into consideration :)

Hey. My name is Vitor Adley and today I'm going to criticize your lesson 1, highlighting problems and pointing out possible solutions. I'm going to assume that you follow the 50% rule (if not, start implementing it immediately).

Lines: when drawing a line, don't try to draw it again with the intention of correcting it if you make a mistake (it's something I saw in some of your exercises). No matter how bad the line is, don't try to fix it, just carry on as if nothing happened.

Ellipses: not bad, they have some irregularities but these will be easily corrected with practice. In the funnel exercise, I noticed that you got the alignment of some ellipses wrong, but with the intention of getting it right, then it's not a problem.

Boxes: it is in this section that what I said in the lines section becomes more evident. I noticed that in the rotated boxes exercise, some boxes had the same vanishing point, with no rotation (you could change the inclination of the box lines to have different rotations).

I will mark your lesson as complete, just pay attention to my criticisms to reduce mistakes next time. You can use some of these exercises as a warm-up before drawing.

    Next Steps:

Your next step is the 250 Boxes Challenge. Good luck:)

Hey KANGAROO. I honestly didn't see any major problems in your lesson 1, I just want to give you some tips in case you do some exercises again.

In rotated boxes, you could position the 4 corner squares at the same distance from each other, so the shape of the boxes would be more circular. In the organic perspective you could add line weight in overlapping regions.

You did well. You can continue to the next lessons, but it is extremely necessary that you do the 250 boxes challenge first.

Don't forget to do some exercises from this lesson as a warm-up before drawing.

    Next Steps:

Your next step is the 250 Boxes Challenge. Good luck:)

Eldast, don't worry, I'm here to give you my feedback on your lesson 1.

Lines: I believe you made good lines. Although some have deviations, they are smooth.

Ellipses: I noticed that you often exceeded the limit of drawing them 3 times, plus some of them were deformed. You can try to pay more attention when ghosting to try to smooth them out and not exceed the limits I mentioned.

Cashiers: YOU DID VERY WELL. IT IS SERIOUS. The rotated boxes exercise is very good. It would have been nice if you had used line weight in the organic perspective. I didn't need to correct the boxes in rough perspective.

In general, you did well, you just need to pay attention to what I said about ellipses. I recommend that you do some of these exercises as a warm-up for future drawings.

    Next Steps:

Your next step is the 250 Boxes Challenge. Good luck:)

Good morning, good afternoon and good night. Today I will criticize your lesson 1.

Lines: Large lines are curved (which is not uncommon).

ellipses: the first ones are not so good, but I noticed that you improved over time.

boxes: you did a good job. Just a tip: you could have done more overlaps in the organic boxes exercise to use more line thickness.

Good job. It seems like you understood the concepts well. Do some of these exercises as a warm-up for future drawings.

    Next Steps:

Your next step is the 250 Boxes Challenge. Good luck:)

Drawabox-Tested Fineliners (Pack of 10, $17.50 USD)

Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.

Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.

These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.

We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.

Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
