Good morning, good afternoon or good night. I will criticize your homework.

    Superimposed lines

Its lines are good and smooth, but there are some deviations in trajectory. However, there is no fraying on both sides.

    Ghosted lines

Its lines have good precision (considering the exercise levels), the ghosting is visible and they are smooth. Good job.

    Ghost planes

    Great like the previous exercise.

    Table of ellipses

The ellipses are smooth and well placed, but sometimes you don't get to draw the ellipses twice as complete.

    Ellipses in planes

Now you have drawn through the ellipses correctly and are complying with the exercise guidelines.

    Funnels

Excellent. It's good to see that you are aware of your mistakes.

    Plotted perspective

    Not bad

    Rough perspective

It's ok, but the lines didn't need to be extended beyond the horizon line.

    Rotated boxes

You forgot to draw the 4 end boxes (absolute corners).

    Organic perspective

The use of ghosting is noticeable and the convergences are ok.

    Next Steps:

    Complete the rotated boxes exercise

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Good morning, good afternoon or good night. I will criticize your homework.

    Superimposed lines

Its lines seem great to me, as they are smooth, maintain a consistent trajectory and have no fraying on both sides.

    Ghosted lines

The lines are still very good. Good accuracy and good use of ghosting.

    Ghosted planes

The same as the previous exercise.

    Table of ellipses

Its ellipses are smooth, drawn twice, and are consistent. Despite some positioning errors, you did a good job.

    Ellipses in planes

    Great again.

I don't know if this counts here, but, in this course, when you make a mistake in executing a brand you shouldn't try to correct it, no matter how bad it was. Instead, you should act as if nothing had happened and move on to the next place. Despite this, I understand your correction and that you are aware of your error.

    Funnels

There was only a slight misalignment of some ellipses with the central axis, but you understood the exercise.

    Plotted perspective

    Very good.

    Rough perspective

Good job creating the perspective of a vanishing point and extending the lines.

    Rotated boxes

The boxes in the lower right corner are slightly sunken, which creates an overlap that shouldn't happen that way. Furthermore, a box in the upper right corner has a slightly wrong convergence.

But even with these small mistakes, your work is solid

    Organic perspective

Very good (The recommendation for this course when using line weight is to apply it only to the outer contours and only in overlapping areas).

    Next Steps:

Go for the 250 boxes challenge.

Don't forget the 50% rule and do some of the exercises in this lesson as a warm-up before drawing.

This looks great. The lines are smooth, there is no fraying on both sides in the overlapping lines exercise, you applied the ghosting method and made the line extensions correctly. Good job.

Don't forget to apply the 50% rule and add these exercises to your warm-up pool.

Hello, I will be offering my critique of your homework.

Before I start, there's no problem sending lessons done digitally if you're not going for official feedback (although drawing on paper is recommended), just make sure you turn off stabilization.

    Superimposed lines

It seems good. The lines are very smooth, continuous and without fraying on both sides.

You forgot to submit a page for this exercise.

    Ghosted lines

You didn't send the page for this exercise either.

    Ghosted planes

His lines are still good, with continuous tagetory and great precision.

    Table of ellipses

Your ellipses seem to be slightly shaky, but it's not a big problem as their smoothness improves over the next few exercises.

    They are drawn twice (nice).

It looks like you are actually ghosting, and trying to make the ellipses touch properly.

    Ellipses in planes

In general, they are smoother than before and I see that you made an effort to make the ellipses meet the 4 sides of the planes.

    Funnels

Your ellipses here are not so bad and you even align them with the central axis well.

    Plotted perspective

Not bad. However, you forgot to add a vertical line to finish a box (I marked it here).

    Rough perspective

When extending the lines, you extended them towards the vanishing point, but the correct thing to do is to extend them towards the horizon line (following the direction that the mark is traveling, and not correcting it).

As you did not send the other page of this exercise, do this exercise paying attention to what I pointed out.

    Rotated boxes

    It's great.

Some boxes follow the same vanishing point (here).

    Organic perspective

It seems good. You will improve your boxes over time.

    Next Steps:

    1 page of superimposed lines

    1 page of ghosted lines

    1 page of rough perspective

Hi. I'll be reviewing your homework today

    Superimposed lines

His straight lines are better on the second page but they are very curved and deviate a little from the original trajectory. Despite this, I liked that last trio of lines on the second page.

    Ghosted lines

Some lines are slightly shaky and the arching persists, despite having improved. Considering the levels of levels of this exercise, you had good precision when trying to hit the points, I just want to note that it is important that, when drawing a line, you don't try to correct its direction (let it follow its flow regardless of whether you are going to hit the point or no).

    Ghosted planes

I notice that your lines have improved slightly, but you still have some of the same problems mentioned before.

    Table of ellipses

Some ellipses seem a little confusing to me despite being smooth, perhaps because you draw them a little too quickly (my assumption), causing you to lose a little control. I recommend that you slow down a little and find a speed that is not too fast but not too slow (and apply the ghosting method well.

A few ellipses exceed the limit of 2-3 times and others were not even drawn twice in full.

I see that you had difficulty getting the ellipses to touch the frame.

I ask you to do another page of this exercise.

    Funnels

Your ellipses here have the same problem of being a little confusing as previously mentioned and the difficulty of touching each other. Some of them are not drawn with two complete turns.

Furthermore, they were quite misaligned with the central axis. The method that worked for me was to perform the ghosting with the ellipse a little more crooked (to the opposite side) than I want it to be when drawn, it seems that the forced tilt compensates for the natural tilt in which I make my ellipses.

Here I also ask you to do another page of this exercise.

    Plotted perspective

Nothing to complain about this exercise. Not bad.

    Rough perspective

Ok. Don't try to correct your line if you made a mistake and be careful when extending the lines (they should stop at the horizon line).

    Rotated boxes

Not bad. I just ask that you complete the exercise by adding the remaining end boxes (I marked them here).

    Organic perspective

    OK.

Regarding the boxes, you will improve a lot in the 250 boxes challenge.

Finally, pay close attention to the points highlighted to better perform the exercises I asked.

Good luck completing the requests I made.

    Next Steps:

1 page of the table of ellipses

    1 page of funnels

Corner boxes in the rotated boxes exercise

Well, this is the first time I've criticized lesson 2, so not everything I say will be right, but I'll do my best. So buckle up because let's get started.

    Arrows exercise:

I like how fluid and dynamic they are and their foreshortenings aren't bad at all. It's great to see how aware you are of some of your mistakes.

Don't try to redo a line you did wrong, this not only makes your drawings more amateurish, it goes against the recommendations of this course.

    Organic forms:

Some of your sausages, especially on the first page, don't follow the two-sphere pattern shown here. To me it seems more like you had difficulties with the mechanical execution than understanding this concept, since on the second page you did better.

Pay attention when connecting the sausage lines, as in this course it is important that your marks are connected.

The degree of inclination of the ellipses is good and the alignment of the ellipses is acceptable.

    Texture analysis:

Good job, there are no scribbles, no hatching, and there are only cast shadows (except in the paper texture, where shaped shadows are used, after all there is no other way).

    Dissections:

The textures involve the shapes and the silhouettes are broken (Very good).

    Form intersections:

The foreshortening of the shapes is very consistent and the connections are ok.

    Organic intersections:

The recommendation for this exercise is that the shapes are in the pattern I mentioned before, but it makes sense that some of them have this deformed aspect due to gravity. Overall, it looks good to me.

Like I said, this is my first review of L2, so I really hope you liked it. :)

You did the exercises very well, but I have a few points to highlight in your homework.

Your ellipses exceeded the 3-line limit (https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/16/drawingthrough).

You forgot to do (or send) some exercises. I'll show you which exercises are missing.

    Next Steps:

1 page of Table of ellipses.

    1 page of rough perspective.

    1 page of rotated boxes.

    1 page of organic perspective

Color and Light by James Gurney

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
