The time I write down is just the time spent on that page. I didn't keep track of how long the proportion studies took me.

Sorry, I couldn't find any ellipse guides in the stores near me.

Thank you! And for the initial thoughtful critique as well.

I feel these aren't much better than the previous ones. Never-the-less, I tried boxing in the curves more and not going over all my lines again to make them clearer against the construction lines.

Thank you very much. This one was a real test, in endurance among other things. I focesed on ellipses in my warm upos and will continue to do so 'til they get tighter.

Thank you very much for the thorough critique. I'll do my best for the next lesson.

Thank you for the very thorough critique. I tried to implement your suggestions in my revision here:

I admit I'm still struggling with adding line weight to curved lines. Same problem with drawing branches, I'm not sure how to draw a curved line from my shoulder. It feels natural to go left-to-right, sweeping my arm out, but curves require me to go forward and back, which my shoulder can't really do. It feels more comfortable incorporating my elbow into the motion, but I think that goes against what the first lessons suggest.

Thank you very much for the thorough critique. I really appreciate it.

Thank you, Scyllastew, for the thorough critique, especially for the comment about line weight. I'll try to keep it in mind going forward.

Thank you, Rob, for the prompt and thorough critique. I have one question.

When you say I'm not rotating my boxes in the rotated boxes exercise, do you mean I'm not rotating enough, or not rotating at all? I'm looking at my submission, and it's clear that overall it doesn't look as spherical as in the example, but the outer boxes are not parallel to the inner boxes. I think the issue I have here, and would watch out for in the future, is that my middle ring of boxes have their vanishing point too close to the whole construction. In addition, they are too long (the plane facing us isn't square). This left me not much room to bring the vanishing points for the outer box in any closer without making them completely sideways. Does this sound reasonable? Or am I still way off?

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
