I feel like the ellipses definitely went better, but there's so many steps to the organic intersections that my brain is a bit blocked and is probably just overthinking it. I also included an extra page of organic ellipses from my practice and my regular freehand ellipses.

Your advice is really helping me shine through! I still made today's practice very very focused on confidence. I even forced my elbow out of acting so just my shoulder c ould draw ellipses.

    TOFU,

Apologies for taking so long. New move + Job gave me a hard time getting into the swing of things. Any other revisions will definitely be less late and I've kept up my practice. Really focusing on nailing confident ellipses and curves down in practice more.

    Tofu,

Thank you so much. I was on vacation and am now getting back used to my regular flow. Some quick questions first,

    1) Textures - How do I focus on the cast shadows more? I've tried reading all the materials but I feel like I need something a bit more, obvious to get? So that I can see it more. I really did spend time trying to understand the reference but I do have a bad habit at copying.

    2) Organic Intersections - How should I wrap everything this time? I never know what "enough" is so I kept throwing them on there. I felt like I got this exercise towards the end - your explanation about light sources helps a lot.

Okay, basic markmaking. I'm about to head to sleep but here,

Digitally, I use LazyNezumi and set it from 7 to 40 usually on the lighter side at a 7. Thing about digital is I can also use the undo button, which I do try to nail harder earlier in the drawing so I don't make the same curve hundreds of times. I'll be honest about curves and ellipses: They've been harder for me to grasp because I don't have as much of a read on them. Like, when I do a line, I know I take it from point A to point B. Even when my eyes 'see' the line I'm creating for curves, I see them with a bit of inaccuracy.

So yeah, I don't exactly know what to do with regards to curves and ellipses. I have been trying though with doing a bunch of L1 exercises whenever I sit down to practice.

Thank you so much again for your feedback. I really look forward to the next steps.

Color and Light by James Gurney

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
