Thanks so much for the thoughtful critique Weijak! The info you passed really gives me some specifics to work on. I know I don't quite get everything yet, but the light is slowly beginning to dawn and when someone like you takes the time to identify details the way you did...well that is just very helpful. I think the confident line work is something I especially need to work on because lack of confidence really does show up and can diminish an otherwise okay form. I will work on this. I still have to struggle to get my hand to do what my mind wants it to do. I think intentional practice will help this.

Thanks again. Your critique matters and makes a difference.

    Hi Omaryaser,

Thanks for posting the revisions I asked for. Looks to me like you have a good grasp of the lesson. I will mark this one as complete and as soon as two others agree you can move to the next lesson. I would keep practicing the superimposed lines. This will help you with accuracy.

    Take care.

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 3 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

The work you did looks pretty good overall. The superimposed lines is pretty loose (lines diverge quite a bit) so I would advise you to keep practicing these in warmup. Eventually (with practice) you should be able to superimpose these lines with a lot less straying off course. The rest is detailed below.

    Next Steps:

    Hi,

Your homework is incomplete. You combined the ghosted planes and the ellipses in planes into one submission. The homework calls for 2 pages of each. Also, the ghosted planes exercise is not complete. The plane needs to have two lines from corner to corner and two lines that bisect the center point. According to the homework instructions you can make a copy of the ghosted planes exercise to use for the ellipses in planes exercise, but when finished you still need to submit 2 pages each.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

You're not a useless waste of oxygen. Let up on yourself a little and try to enjoy what you are doing. I'm a complete beginner too and I understand the frustration of not being able to do what I want to with the pen (or pencil or any other medium for that matter). If you make a mistake that's all it is. Correct it if possible and move on. There's no need to dwell on it or take it too hard. We learn from mistakes (and we all make them) so if you aren't making mistakes you aren't learning anything. This course is hard. I can see even as a beginner that is has a lot of good advice and it is designed to improve your skill, so keep that in mind. I get frustrated with my lack of ability (meaning low skill) too, but hey, if I keep at it I will learn something and improve my skill level. Even though it is difficult, have some fun.

I'm a lot like you in what is comfortable for me. I like to go from lower left to upper right and I am right handed. I found that if I shifted the angle just enough so I could see the destination point, then that was a workable solution for me. It isn't quite 45 degrees, but close enough I can deal with it. Also, turn your paper as much as you need to so you can get then angle you want. I noticed Uncomfortable recommends turning your paper as much as needed. Hope that helps.

I had the same problem with the 250 box challenge. No matter what I did Imgur did not keep all the images. A few days later I tried another submission and it worked. I don't remember which I did but I either dragged the images onto the Imgur submission window or I added each individual image using the add another image button. I think I dragged them from explorer onto the submission page. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the critique Frog. It was helpful. I had a really difficult time trying to get the sets of lines parallel (or converging) since I was doing it by eye and not measuring or using guides. I made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I think overall I learned something. I'm not there yet, but this exercise helped me along the way.

Reading your comments and looking at the examples you provided links for was helpful. Thanks!

Great news Nicolaslaslas! I'm glad I could help and happy to hear you are almost finished. It really is a bit of a grind doing these boxes, but I also finished and am happy to move on.

Good luck to you as you continue to learn how to understand and apply important concepts.

Not yet. I may try that and see what happens, but I think the browser should be okay. Same Firefox browser I used last time. Why those controls are not available is what perplexes me. That just shouldn't happen without some reason.

Thanks for your suggestions. It may just take me a while to figure out.

I get that. That's what I was doing. I can click the Create post at the top left, add images which I can see, but the To Community and Hidden buttons are grayed out. I can't select either one. All the other controls are grayed out as well. And it doesn't matter whether I add all 42 pages or a single page. I get the same thing. Even when I sign in and use my account I am unable to post pics. I was able to create an album. No link is available for the album, so I got 42 individual links, one for each image. That was all I could do. Seems like something has changed with Imgur. I got it to work fine on lesson 1.

It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
