Thanks for the answer it's always nice to have a return on a feedback :)

For pushing through that's completely fine if you can go slower and keep doing your best

We're all different on that if you need a break that's fine for me I just end up working a 1/3 or even 1/2 as fast when i'm losing focus but i try to keep pushing through until the next day where I get more motivation but you know yourself best :)

For the side of the wheels if it's a didn't have the smaller ellipses on your guides then no worries it's understandable, but yeah if you're eager to start Lesson 7 careful with that cause with most vehicles the "outside" of the wheel is hidden for the most part and what you see are the sides! and it's one of the most recognisable parts of the vehicles so try to put effort into them on your vehicles

For the shadows yeah no worries most are great so just keep an eye on it :)

and happy if the feedback could help!

    Hello Cytori!

I'm Simon and I'll be attempting to review your Lesson 7 :)

First of all well done for coming this far and really no reason for you to not feel happy about the results because these look great and keep in mind they're just exercises! having learnt from them is what matters in any case.

Starting off with your forms intersections these are looking really solid nearly perfect just keep practicing from time to time and practice makes perfect! Also if you ever feel unsure about an intersection be sure to hop in blender and play around with the two shapes to understand the intersection better :)

Your cylinders in boxes are good could've done one or two more on the page but that's fine.

Be careful for the bottom one the pink lines seem a little divergend or at least parallel same with the black lines for the right box. Since it's the boxes and not the ellipses it's no big deal as long as you keep an eye on it i'm sure it'll get fixed immediatly.

Moving onto the vehicle form intersections you really didn't have to make them as detailed (especially for n°3) but it's still looking solid your shapes are confidently drawn and are completely fine except maybe for the back lines of the truck where idk if you tried to have 3 point perspective but the back lines of the last wheels are inclined quite a bit too much. Other than that all good.

Finally Vehicles! First of all your constructions and attention to subdivisions is impeccable. The plane being the proof of this with how accurate your proportions are so really well done on that keep putting in that much effort to get perfect vehicles!

Your measures, constuctions are all good.

One little "mistake" i could find was with the wheels of the bike, i don't know if you have an ellipse guide cause the front wheel looks a bit off but all your other ellipses are on point so this is really the exception and not the rule.

As for the shading and detailing since you mostly did it on the first vehicle i'll be focusing on that but yeah if you have time try to detail add a bit of form shading to another vehicle like the bike and they'll really pop off the page.

For the wagon the cast shadow is properly done and even though you could have added a bit of details to the fabric to bring it to life the wooden structure you worked on really works well and feels solid.

All in all great job and congratulations for completing the course!

Hello Cornball! I'm Simon and I'll be attempting to review your 25 Wheels challenge :)

First of all for your construction you did a really good job putting the back ellipse with a wider ° than the front one I imagine you had an ellipse guide that's about the best you can do unless you have 200 ellipse guides for all the different °

I'll just note for number 17 and 21 the structured is kind of screwed and it does seem like a few of the latest wheels you put a bit less effort into, so just be careful during Lesson 7 not to rush the construction step since it's the most important one.

With wheels like n°24 I see you got better at drawing the sides of the wheels and taking into account their 3D shape but be careful with wheels like n°9 to use the right ° of ellipse as the center goes further and further inside.

For the textures you started doing a really good job of doing the cast shadows of the texture only with wheels like n°1 or 5 but the more you advance the more it seems like you gave up a bit on it and started losing sight of the texture you were shading like n°21 or n°25. Be sure to always have a distinct light source when shading and I recommend you go back and check the material about shading from Lesson 2(I think) to refresh if needed :)

Little note on the shading, when filling in the dark areas with a ballpoint pen it looks like be careful to not leave little white spots during lesson 7 and if possible get a fineliner brush or just a big fineliner like 1.0 to help you fill in the black areas :)

Other than that all in all great job! Just be mindful not to rush and I'm sure your vehicles will come out looking great!

    Best of luck!

Thank you very much for the considerate review. I'll be more careful to implement all of this!

    Thanks again :)

Thank you very much! What you are talking about for the elephant skin and leaf is definitely something I know i'm struggling with and didn't really know how to get better at but your examples and diagrams really made me understand I think at least!

    Thanks again!

    Just thought of something,

As some other people do that I'll be asking you to do yourself some reviews on other peoples submissions (Lesson 1 and 250 box) before I get to reviewing your Lesson 2

That's so that everyone can get a review and to try to make it a little fair

Once you've done at least 3 reviews you can hmu and I'll review your Lesson 2 Right away

    9:53 PM, Sunday February 23rd 2025

Hey! Happy to hear from you again

    Yeah I still do reviews

It's a getting a bit late where I live rn so I'll be getting to it tomorrow hope that's okay :)

    Cheers!

    1. Superimposed lines

First of all you did a good job of drawing your lines confidently and committing to the stroke once you started it. Fraying is only visible on the end of your lines that proves you took the time to start each stroke on the same point, well done!

    2. Ghosted lines

Well done your Ghosted lines do not wobble. Your lines remain straight, that's good in the future keep the habit of drawing with your whole arm so you have long confident lines! You did a good job of having your lines end up near or on the final dot, keep practicing this exercise (and the others) in your warmups to get even better at it!

    3. Ghosted planes

You did a really good job of doing your ghosted planes, your lines are as good/better than the ones from your previous exercises.

    4. Table of ellipses

Great job on drawing through every single ellipse twice! Make sure you keep doing that with every single ellipse you draw along the course! You tried to fit every ellipse and circle snugly along the borders of your tables good job, it is tough to achieve but as long as you keep striving for it you'll improve! Most of your ellipses are evenly shaped and appear smooth good job! Getting a perfect ellipse is a really hard job but you'll have time to work on it through your warmups.

    5. Ellipses in planes

Once again good job on drawing through every ellipse twice! You tried and managed to fit your ellipses right between the four sides great job on managing to do that! Most of your ellipses are evenly shapes good job here too.

    6. Funnels

Here too you tried to fit every ellipse snugly along the curves well done, even if it is tougher to do with a non straight edge it's a really good practice. You kept most of your ellipses along the direction of the minor axis, keep practicing this exercise as a warmup in your next lessons.

    7. Plotted perspective

As mentioned in the exercise you used a ruler to draw your boxes that's all good. You kept the first lines of your boxes perpendicular to the horizon as you should've, well done. You made sure to plot every single line back to the right vanishing point so good job, even though some back corners don't come out perfectly that's completely fine :)

    8. Rough perspective

Managing to land every single line exactly back to the vanishing point is a near impossible task at this point but what's important is you tried and most of your lines do try to reach that center point! The front back of your boxes is rectangular each time, that's great. You managed to draw every line extension in the right direction, that could get a little tougher in the 250 boxes since you have to extend in 3 directions but this shows you got the base of how to do it! You seem to have used the ghosting method for every stroke that's good! Keep using it for every stroke and your exercises will look much better than if you didn't!

    9. Rotated boxes

The setup of your rotated boxes is well laid out with the cross and the 4 cubes to strive for in each cardinal direction :) You kept the gaps between each box tight and consistent. That's a key to having a good result with this exercise. You seem to understand how to rotate your boxes, but don’t seem to rotate them enough, that’s fine since it still shows that you understood the assignment but if you can I’d like you to try this exercise once more while keeping an eye on the side squares you drew at the start as a goal for you 2nd box on each side. Drawing through your boxes is also a key part of the exercise and is also making you start practicing this skill that will be used for every box in the 250 challenge. You drew every single box well done! Many people forget some boxes in the corner but you didn't!

    10. Organic perspective

Once again using the ghosting method for every single stroke of this course is a crucial part into getting good habits for your whole drawing journey! Looks like your boxes don't have parallel or diverging edges for the most part well done! That's already a great skill to have moving forward in the 250 boxes challenge. You did a good job of drawing shallower foreshortening here as some people tend to go into more dramatic foreshortening which in this exercise as the effect of making the boxes seem inconsistent in scale compared to each other, overall making the drawing less solid and less believable.

Don't forget to complete your 50/50 rule and to add these exercises to your warmups for future lessons!

Also I strongly encourage you to go review some submissions on the website :) You can review some lessons 1 and once you've completed future lessons review those as well. Don't hesitate to do a review every so often. It really benefits you so you don't forget the point of the previous exercises and helps other people who are waiting on a review :)"

    Next Steps:

Feel free to move on to the 250 box challenge

I persnoally uploaded it once it was all done, you'll also have more chances of getting a review if you do it this way

    10:12 PM, Saturday February 8th 2025

Great job! Much better, if you want it to be closer to a circle you'll have to make them rotate even more so that your corner ones end up nearly parallel to the viewer's eye direction ? if that makes sense. And otherwhise it's just a matter of keeping your boxes, and your rotation the same. Seems like you rotate less the top and bottom than the sides and also you tend to have your edge boxes bigger in perspective maybe to compensate for the foreshortening the perspective gives but you'll get used to it at some point if you keep forcing yourself to see the rotation and to try to draw boxes the same size each time. In any case it's nothing to worry about it'll come with practice.

    Good luck moving forward!

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
