Hello, thank you so much for taking your time to review my work!

You really opened my eyes about some exercises. I was mostly aware of my mistakes since I've been doing critiques aswell. Nevertheless, I will gladly take your critique and try my best to improve. Also, since I really like the way you give feedback, I wanted to ask if I could add you on discord because I've been having doubts about a certain homework I reviewed. Thanks in advance and happy drawing! ^^

As this is quite hard to explain with words, could you add me on Discord ( Kaiangee #5801 ) so that I can send you a picture of what I mean?

The ones that confuse me are for example 6 & 7, as well as 19 & 20. The boxes themselves are drawn correctly, but it looks as if they are going through each other in a way ( or maybe fused would make more sense). Just give them a bit of space next time you do the exercise.

Regarding the Rotated boxes, you only drew the box in the bottom right corner. Following this example, you should see what I'm implying here.

Hello Oopsilon! I have identified a couple of things in your homework that you should look out for in the future, so let's go through them.

Firstly, your lines seem to be wobbly in the beginning, but this is completely alright since you made progress over time. Mistakes in the Superimposed lines exercise keep occurring until you reach Rough perspective. If you would like me to specify which mistakes you've made, feel free to ask.

Only exercise I would like to touch on in this section is Ghosted planes, in which you could have used the space better.

Now, let's move onto your ellipses :

In the first exercise, Tables of ellipses, some spacing issues tend to happen ( overlapping ).

Moving on, considering your Ellipses in planes, most of your ellipses tend to deform. We should try our best to hit all of the edges, but we can't change their shape. What we can play around with is their position and size.

To finish off, we're going to talk about your boxes :

First exercise in this section is Plotted perspective. What I can say about it is that you used the space really well, but one thing that confuses me are certain boxes that overlap. I think that this is not a problem, but you might want to keep a distance between them when this exercise becomes a part of your warm up session.

Next up we have Rough perspective and one thing I would like to mention here is that width lines should be parallel and height lines perpendicular to the horizon.

Lastly, in Rotated boxes exercise I just have to point out that you're missing a couple of boxes on the edges.

In conclusion, you grasped the content well and improved the essential things you need to move on. I would just advise you to add homework from ellipses section more often into your warm ups. I'm glad you submitted your work and good luck in the 250 boxes challenge!

Hello Pammers! I looked at your homework and noticed a couple of things that you could work on, so let's go through them in sections. ( Also, it is okay that you used a ballpoint pen, but it is recommended that you get a fine liner asap)

To start off, your lines are quite wobbly and this is repeated throughout your homework. However, in the last exercise I can see that you made progress, so this is not a problem.

I'd like to point out the Superimposed lines exercise where your lines were also arching and in certain areas there is fraying on both ends.

Another thing that I should mention is that you should focus on confidence over accuracy because it costed you a couple of times in the Ghosted lines exercise.

Moving on, let's talk about your ellipses :

So in these exercises what you should pay attention to is spacing between your ellipses.

Other than that, about Ellipses in planes I see that you didn't always draw through the ellipses 2~3 times, as well as that your ellipses tend to deform in a couple of areas.

Besides that I should mention Funnels exercise in which you haven't used the advised equipment and as a result the minor axis isn't cutting the ellipses in two symmetrical halves.

Lastly, let's go over your boxes :

Starting off, issue in Plotted perspective is drawing the lines free hand ( even though it is clearly mentioned in the instructions to use a ruler) . Also, I should mention that you didn't have to do hatching on the faces of the boxes since it was optional and doing this just made your work look messy.

In the next exercise Rough Perspective width lines should be parallel to horizon and height lines perpendicular to horizon. On some occasions you drew lines twice (which you shouldn't) , so watch out for that in the future.

To sum up, the major issues in your homework were about the lines. I can see that you eventually worked on them and ( more importantly) grasped the content well. Just make sure not to rush and to take breaks! Hopefully this critique will be useful to you. I will mark this lesson as complete and I'm glad that you submitted your work! ^^

Well done! I will now mark this lesson complete but watch out that width lines should be parallel to horizon and weight lines perpendicular to horizon.

Also, another thing I would like to add is that I purposefully advised ONE page of revision instead of two. Firstly it's to avoid grinding of course, but another reason is because I really want you to focus on executing each line well. Looking forward to reviewing your work!

Alright then, my bad! I'm quite new to critiquing others work so hopefully you don't take it wrong. Also, you're welcome :3

Hello Vinomino! I went over your homework and although you have done a really good job I would like to point out a couple of things that you can work on.

Firstly, your lines are a bit wobbly. What's causing this is most likely not using the shoulder pivot. Before making a line, try planning or ghosting more to achieve better accuracy, but your priority should be confidence ( this applies to all of your exercises). There is a couple of cases where you repeat lines, so try working on that by reminding yourself while doing the work.

Moving on, your ellipses tend to deform in certain cases. Ellipses must be symmetrical and have the same shape, so the only thing you can change is their position and size.

In the funnels exercise some of your ellipses are not going straight through the minor axes. ( because of spacing! )

    Now about your boxes :

In the exercise plotted perspective, it is not necessary to put your vanishing points off the page because we are just learning about perspective and you were not really sure about where your lines go.

Further on, in the rough perspective homework try using dots instead of just executing the lines to keep your work clean. Overall looks good!

Next exercise, rotated boxes, has the same mistakes I already mentioned, I would just add that you are missing a box in the top right corner.

Organic perspective looks good and again, I would suggest using dots before putting down the line on the page.

Overall you have done well, so I will mark this homework complete. Pay attention to these mistakes in the future and good luck with the 250 boxes challenge!

PureRef

PureRef

This is another one of those things that aren't sold through Amazon, so I don't get a commission on it - but it's just too good to leave out. PureRef is a fantastic piece of software that is both Windows and Mac compatible. It's used for collecting reference and compiling them into a moodboard. You can move them around freely, have them automatically arranged, zoom in/out and even scale/flip/rotate images as you please. If needed, you can also add little text notes.

When starting on a project, I'll often open it up and start dragging reference images off the internet onto the board. When I'm done, I'll save out a '.pur' file, which embeds all the images. They can get pretty big, but are way more convenient than hauling around folders full of separate images.

Did I mention you can get it for free? The developer allows you to pay whatever amount you want for it. They recommend $5, but they'll allow you to take it for nothing. Really though, with software this versatile and polished, you really should throw them a few bucks if you pick it up. It's more than worth it.
