Thanks Big U - really appreciate the notes on how mistakes aren't bad but are really guides. You have no idea how your many mindset-shift nuggets help us on our drawing path - I will definitely benefit from this one.

Also, good to know that I am (was?) on on the right path for cylinders - thanks again!

Thanks for the feedback and looking back, I'm not sure why I switched the ends after awhile... It wasn't because I forgot which side is meant to be closer...more, I got it into me head that I should make cropped cone versions as well. Part of it is because I tend to overthink everything and when something feels a bit too simplistic in the ask, I freak out. Something similar happened with my insect submission - 1 page of insect means how many? I ended up doing 3 per page and then was told by DIO 1 page means 1 insect...

Anyhow, appreciate the feedback...280 cylinders (and counting) and one can still improve...

On page 4, I acknowledge cylinders 20 and 22 have double lines - I wanted to check how I misjudged...and was quite surprised at how close the misjudged repeat line is to the original. I'm not sure if it's a good thing?

THANK YOU SO MUCH DIO! You've answered all and even picked up on the things I forgot to ask about/struggled with during this lesson!!!

Oh my gosh! I knew something felt weird when I made the link and I can't believe I missed uploading my non-hooved quadrupeds scans!

They are definitely here now in https://imgur.com/a/AeAeKy5 (and I reuploaded the others so it's all in one link).

    Same questions as before:

    • Should drawing feathers be treated like drawing leaves?

    • How do we draw horse tails that are just hairs? My second horse tail looks flat...

    • Do we draw a sausage ribcage for creatures with longer bodies (like the axolotyl and earless moniter lizard)? I realised after starting the drawing that I had no idea how to go about it.

    • For the bumps on the lizard (to communicate overall silhouette texture), should they be drawn flat, or as a 3D lump? Or were these meant to be cast shadows?

Hooray! I'm so happy! Thanks Dio!

Hi Dio - thank you sooooo much! I appreciate you guys noticing the time-gap between my last submission and yes...there were many things I did forget.

Below is a link to my insect revisions - looking forward to learning where I need to improve!

Note - I am still not 100% sure how we are to draw the wings (my insect revision 2). In attempting to make it look textural, it just looked scratchy again =(... I will add an insect wing to my 25 texture analysis (currently ongoing/doing a handful between lessons).

    THANK YOU!

I definitely got confused with textrure/line pattern and shadow - thank you again for the reminder and critique!

I can't remember that guideline (1-2 intervals every fortnight or so) - that actually sounds like a good starting point to play around with. Thanks so much!

    Thanks =)

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
