    Nice!

I don't really understand what you tried to achieve with this line weight thing tho.

Anyway, your boxes weren't that bad from the start, but we can still see improvement overall.

I would call it done sir, good luck with the following lessons!

    Next Steps:

Well done, now let continue this journey with lesson 2

    Hi!

Seems like a super solid work to me. Tho:

    • your table of ellipse could use a bit more grinding: your ellipses are always far away from the borders or from each other.

Maybe you should keep this exercise as a regural warmup to improve over time without wasting time redoing it.

Your lines are precise and confident! Your rotating box is neat, your organic perspective works well too.

I think you can't learn more from those exercices, so you should consider moving to the 250 boxes challenge.

    Good luck!

    Next Steps:

The 250 boxes are waiting for you! Just try to keep in mind to warm up doing ellipses (Table of ellipses e.g.) to improve your ellipse skill.

    Hi!

Good work overall. There are some little things I'd like to point out to you tho :

    • Plotted perspective : your hatching is messy. On the first frame, you hatched both ways, which is not recommended. You should stick to 1 way (e.g. bottom left to upper right). On the other 2 frames, you scribbled! You can't do that, bro!

    • Your ellipses are a bit too wobbly, in your tables of ellipses as in your ellipses in ghosted planes and funnels.

    • Rotated box : scribbling is forbidden! Take your time, breath, and hatch. Some of your lines are supperimposed for no reason too. You should stick with one line well-ghosted, even if it is wrong.

Your perspective ("rough persp" "rotated box" and "orgnaic persp") are quite good! I think you wouldn't learn more from those exercices now.

    Next Steps:

Before moving to 250 box challenge, you should work a bit on your ellipses.

    • Please redo a funnel page, making sure your ellipses touch each other properly, and not too wobbly.

I suggest you to keep in mind what I wrote about your hatching, since you will have to hatch 250 boxes soon.

    Good luck!

    Hi!

Nice work overall. I'm specificly impressed by your Rough Perspective. Even if they are off (like everybody else at this point), they all point in the right direction. Nice!

I would just suggest some issues:

    • Your superimposed lines are supposed to be superimposed on a straight first line! Anyway you seem to ghost and mark properly in the following exercise so don't bother rediong this stuff.

    • In your Organic Perspective, you should have done less boxes, but emphasize more the depth with bigger variation of scale. But the amount of boxes you draw is impressive, so I don't think if you would really benefit from redoing it.

    • Your rotated boxes isn't done properly : your front cubes aren't supposed to be on the same plane. This misconception of the instruction makes you miss the point of the exercise.

Otherwise it's a solid piece of work!

    Next Steps:

I would suggest you to redo the Rotated Box exercise, be careful to re-read the instruction about the rotation (not the video) so you don't mess it. It's okay to do it poorly, but not wrongly.

    Good luck!

    Hi!

This is good work overall. We can clearly see your dedication and seriousness.

I have 3 concern about it that I would like to share with you :

    • Your ellipses are great, but your table of ellipses are super homogeneous. You should try to split some boxes with a curve, and vary scales of the boxes to get to draw different sizes of ellipses.

    • Your rough perspectives are off. It's normal to have lines that don't converge properly at this stage, but you are doing a more serious mistake : you almost always make your in perspective sides going the wrong way. Perspective lines of the cube are supposed to point toward the horizon line. It's a big concern since it's an important information of hox perspective is built.

    • Lastly, I think you would greatly gain by using a fineliner (or similar) type of pen instead of a pencil. No need to sharp it, always consistent inking so you can work on your grip more efficiently.

The rest is fine and solid, i think you are on a good path!

    Next Steps:

    • You may do one more Table of Ellipses with various scales, as shown in the instructions of the lesson.

    • You should also redo the Rough Perspective exercise to get the lines in the right direction (you don't have to have them exactly converge to the VP, but you must make them point to the right direction).

If you can, try to switch from pencil to fineliner pen, it would make a huge difference... for you! ;)

    Good luck!

    Hi!

Super nice work. It seems that you had a problem with your upload : it misses one page of "Rough Perspective", one of "ghosted planes", and one of "ellipses in ghosted planes".

Every page you did looks like serious work and solid confidence in line marking.

If you have done the missing pages, you should go through the 250 box challenge since you don't have nothing more to get from lesson 1.

    Next Steps:

Super solid work, you really should go through the next step : 250 boxes challenge!

    Hello!

Nice work. I still can see that you rushed a bit (you could have fit way more boxes by doing them a bit smaller). If you are short on patience, you can only work on your mindset.

Maybe try to keep in mind that drawing is not a speedrace, but more a lifetime marathon. Take your time, try to do less at each session and enjoy what you are doing!

Anyway, nice perspective attempt, nice straight lines, I would suggest you to move on the 250 boxes challenge.

    Next Steps:

Hope to see your 250 boxes soon! But not too soon ;)

And to show you mine too, fella!

    Hi!

    Nice work overall.

You lines looks confident, and the perspective purpose of the exercises look reached. They are mistakes in the "organic perspective" sheets and of course the "Rotated box" is a pain, but I think it's normal (and in your case promising) before doing the 250 boxes challenge.

Your ellipses are a bit weaker tho. I suggest you move on the 250 boxes challenge, while keeping the Table of Ellipses exercise as a regular warmup.

A personal advice : I don't like using spiral notebook, I prefer greatly free paper ;) way easier to rotate, and the spiral tends to get in my way sometimes when ghosting.

    Good luck!

    Hi!

You gone through all of the exercises and it's great.

Still, everyone of them suffer from wobbly lines. Your line marking really lower your overall level.

For example : in your table of ellipses, a lot of them are super-wobbly and not symetrical at all. Small ones, look sometimes like spirals. In your rough perspective, a lot of your width lines are wobbly too. In your funels too, half of your ellipses are not superimposed.

Last thing : in your "organic perspective", some of your boxes are super-long (not cubic-ish), due to one of the "Y" branch too long compared to the other too.

Those two errors make me think you are going a bit fast on the execution. You may gain a lot by taking your time to build your lines with more prep and ghosting.

On the other hand, your perspective are quit good (the mistakes you make are the one expected, especially your "rotated box" exercise is pretty good).

So your work clearly suffer from the wobbliness of your lines.

    Next Steps:

Before validating your work, I would suggest you to redo the "ellipses in ghosted planes" x2 exercise, and be super-focused on your ghosting and confident straight line marking. It would make your good work way more solid. No need to redo the rest, perspective notions seem pretty understood in your work.

    Good luck!

    Hi!

This feels good to me. The only thing that tickles me is your surimposed lines : it seems that they go quickly off track.

It's weird since your ellipses show great confidency.

Same thing in your last exercise : the organic boxes. You surimposed a lot of lines, and I don't clearly understand why.

Maybe you can insist of your ghosting while tracing simple lines.

    Good work nevertheless!

    Next Steps:

I would suggest you continue along (250 boxes to eat!), and keep the "ghosted planes + ellipses" exercise as a warmup, to keep reinforcing your accuracy and confidency in your overall line marking.

Staedtler Pigment Liners

Staedtler Pigment Liners

These are what I use when doing these exercises. They usually run somewhere in the middle of the price/quality range, and are often sold in sets of different line weights - remember that for the Drawabox lessons, we only really use the 0.5s, so try and find sets that sell only one size.

Alternatively, if at all possible, going to an art supply store and buying the pens in person is often better because they'll generally sell them individually and allow you to test them out before you buy (to weed out any duds).
