    Hi Halcyon1,

I want to congratulate you on completing lesson 1! I noticed that you said you have no prior drawing experience. Nonetheless, you persisted through all of the exercises. Good job!

There are a few things that I have noticed in your work that I would like to point out.

In your Superimposed Lines exercise, I notice that you start off with some fraying lines but you seem to correct this tendency later on. On your Ghosted Lines and Ghosted Planes exercises, what I am seeing the most is a lack of confidence in your lines. On your Ghosted Planes exercise in particular, it seems that you were really trying to get the ellipses to fit into the plane. This, of course, would be ideal. However, in an effort to get the ellipses into the plane you have sacrificed confident lines. I also notice throughout your work that many times when you draw your ellipses, you are not quite going around the ellipses a complete two times.

Taking a look at your Plotted Perspective and Rough Perspective exerises, I think things look pretty good. The biggest issue is, once again, a lack of confidence in your lines.

On your Rotated Boxes exercise, I see that the spaces between your boxes is not as snug as it could be. In addition, the boxes are not rotating very much at all. It seems that some of the boxes on the outer edges are in the same position as the center box, just smaller.

Your Organic Perspective exercise looks pretty good. It seems that you are begging to understand the concept and over time the execution will improve.

What I would recommend is to try the Rotated Boxes exercise again. Focus on confident lines, keeping the boxes snug, and trying to get the boxes to rotate just a it more. After that I think moving on to the 250 box challenge would be great!

    Next Steps:

Nice job on this lesson. Maybe try this again before moving on.

    Hi Oliwer1,

Nice job with these exercises here. One intial request for future exercises would be to put the pages in the order that the exercises are presented. There should be an option on Imgur to rearrange the album.

Overall, I think everything looks pretty good. Most all of your lines are very clean and straight. There are a couple things I am going to be a bit picky about.

On your Rough Perspective exercises in particular, I notice that there are some places where you have drawn over your lines in order to correct them. It's best to just leave them as they are. It can be tempting to go back over a mistake to try to make it look better. In fact, I made the same mistake in my lesson one drawings. However, if you can, try to avoid doing this.

On your Funnels exercise, I notice that some of you elipses seem to be a bit wobbly. Maybe spend a little longer ghosting before making your marks next time. Not sure, but that might help make them just a bit cleaner.

Like I said before, great job on completing this lesson!

    Next Steps:

Move on to the 250 box challenge.

Thanks heaps for the critque! I will work on focusing on ghosting for the next lesson.

Cottonwood Arts Sketchbooks

These are my favourite sketchbooks, hands down. Move aside Moleskine, you overpriced gimmick. These sketchbooks are made by entertainment industry professionals down in Los Angeles, with concept artists in mind. They have a wide variety of sketchbooks, such as toned sketchbooks that let you work both towards light and towards dark values, as well as books where every second sheet is a semitransparent vellum.
