Actively made an effort to draw simple sausages and draw through everything, and attaching the muzzle to the cranium to the best of my ability from the ref I used. Thanks for the crit btw

Superimposed lines: Your lines start strong from the initial mark, which is good. There is a bit of fraying for the long lines but that is too be expected. Good start.

Ghosted lines: Lines are a bit wobbly, but it's not too much. A big thing I'm noticing is that your lines arc a little (they bend upwards and kind of peak in the middle before reaching the end). To avoid this, try to think about arcing in the other direction (downwards) when ghosting your lines. Think about it slightly but don't push it too much, this will help straighten out your lines. I had this same issue and this practice has helped me a ton.

Ghosted planes: While these are well done, the big issue here is that you drew static planes. You didn't really vary the lengths of the edges and draw a variety of planes like the assignment suggested. I won't tell you to do revisions, but I highly recommend doing this exercise as a warmup going forward.

Ellipses: You did a good job keeping the ellipses packed. Good job

Ellipses in Planes: There are several instances where your ellipses miss an edge and are fairly wobbly. I recommend doing this as a warmup going forward.

Funnels: Really neat and confident, but you are not changing the degrees of your ellipses much. I recommend adding this as a warmup as well.

Plotted Perspective: Great work. This exercise is pretty straightforward so I have not much to say.

Rough perspective: Solid first attempt. Nothing much to say because a lot of this will improve as you go forward + 250 box challenge.

Rotated boxes: Very good. Keep in mind that Drawabox tries to instill in you that each line should be carefully considered and that their are consequences for putting down said lines. We should not be correcting lines in this early stage of learning. I get it, rotated perspective is hard but try to keep this in mind. Also use the other boxes for reference to know how to structure the exercise.

Organic perspective: Your boxes here are definitely a step up from the rough perspective ones. Good job. Your linework could use a bit more work but again, 250 challenge will help.

    Congrats on finishing lesson 1!

Ghosted planes: Pretty solid. Your lines are confident overall and you solved the arc issue.

Ellipses: You did a good job keeping the ellipses packed. They're a bit wobbly but this comes with practice.

Ellipses in Planes: Well done. I don't really see any major mistakes. Any errors here (slight wobble) go away with practice.

Rough perspective: Solid first attempt. Nothing much to say because a lot of this will improve as you go forward + 250 box challenge.

Rotated boxes: Nice work. Your upper left boxes are a bit rushed and there is some line correction throughout. But overall you managed to get it done.

Congrats, onto the 250 box challenge.

Accidentally posted this as a reply and not a crit so ignore the comment below this.

Superimposed lines: Well done. There's a bit of fraying on both ends, though the variety of the lines you made really reinforced your proficiency with this exercise.

Ghosted lines: Awesome start. A bit of wobble and inaccuracy but that will get better with practice.

Ghosted Planes: Immediate step up from your ghosted lines. There's accuracy and confidence in almost of your lines. Impressive work.

Table of Ellipses: A little bit of free space, and your ellipses are a bit rough, but these will get better with practice. You followed the instructions and this is a good start.

Ellipses in Planes: Your ellipses touch all the edges of the planes, some miss the mark by a little but it's no big deal. Great work.

Funnels: Your funnels are, for the most part, evenly divided across the minor axis. You could use a bit more changes in the degree of your ellipses, though.

    Plotted perspective: Good job!

Rough Perspective: Your line confidence took a bit of a dip, but that's to be expected with this exercise. Your boxes gradually improve in terms of roughly meeting the vanishing point, so there is improvement.

Rotated Boxes: Really well done! It's clear that you used the neighboring boxes to accurately pinpoint the locations of the others with careful planning! And your lines are confident too! Excellent.

Organic Perspective: Confident lines and good construction of your boxes without having to draw through them. Well done.

Good job, you can do the 250 box challenge now.

Table of Ellipses: A little bit of free space, but your ellipses are smooth and tightly packed for the most part. There are a few instances where your ellipses are rough but this will improve with practice . There is one panel of the table where you had these thin ellipses inside larger ones. That's not recommended according to the instructions where you should have them tightly packed in every table like on your first page.

Your work is great overall and you're only going to get better from here. Keep at it!

Organic Arrows: Good job! You spaced out the waves between your arrows and varied the size to indicate foreshortening and perspective.

Organic Forms: While these are really well done, both pages share two significant errors regarding the instructions. First off, you were supposed to draw simple sausage forms (view https://drawabox.com/lesson/2/contourlines again). You these long, complex forms, some of which are completely uneven on one end and have weird indentations. On your contour curves page, the form on the left side has contour lines that are too shallow and do not accelerate towards the edge of the form. As a result, the form looks flat and not as three dimensional as the others. Your ellipses should be changing in degrees gradually from one end of the form to the other (appearing fuller at the ends and becoming thinner and thinner at the center as we are looking at a circle from the side sort of). The degree change is kind of unclear at certain parts. While there is some three dimensionality to these forms, you're missing out on the extra layer of volume you can get through practicing these degree shifts. I recommend reviewing the page for this HW exercise and doing it again.

Texture Analysis: Well done. You definitely put time into observing the textures of these materials. And you follow the transition from dense to sparse.

Dissections: Great work. Your textures are all thought out and deliberate, proving you spent time observing your reference. My only critique here is that you don't mind the curvature that much, and some textures kind of emerge from the side of the sausage to its rounded edge kinda flatly. Our textures in this exercise behave like paper wrapped around a tube, they follow the tube all around it.

Form Intersection: Awesome work. You could have added more intersections with your forms, but that was optional and you still did what the assignment asked and avoided all major mistakes.

Organic Intersection: You are making the same errors with your contour curves as the start

You definitely understand the material and I can tell you put in a good effort. But I still think you should revisit the Organic Forms exercise. You'll get the hang of it in no time and then the future lessons will be easier for you. Good luck

    Next Steps:

Organic forms with contour forms and ellipses.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
