Hi, I looked through your lesson 1 submitted homework, and I will try my best to critique it.

    Superimposed Lines

Everything seems fine. Lines are confident and fray only on one side

    Ghosted Lines

Another well-done assignment. Most of the lines are confident and done accurately. I have here just one reminder: don't prioritize accuracy over confident lines. We should firstly train confident straight lines, and accuracy should come second.

    Ghosted Planes

Once again everything looks everything looks great.

    Ellipses

Your ellipses look okay. If you ever go back to those tasks from lesson one for your warmup, you should do some ellipses since there is some room for improvement

    Funnels

    Again, everything looks great

    Plotted Perspective

    Everything looks good and clean

    Rough Perspective

Everything is good for most part.

    Rotated Boxes

Great job with this one. Clean and nice looking outcome

    Organic Boxes

For the most part, it looks good. There are some wonky boxes but they are exceptions

    Summary

Everything seems to be really good looking and every task was well understood and executed.

Keep up the good work :)

Oh, and also.. while you wait for the critique with 2 agrees use your free time and look at some other people's homework from lesson 1 and consider critiquing their work to pay it forward for people critiquing your work :)

    Next Steps:

After critique with 2 agrees 250 boxes next. Great job on lesson one, you got this!

Hi, I looked through your lesson 1 submitted homework, and I will try my best to critique it.

In advance i'm sorry for repeating myself, but (spoiler alert) you've done great with the assignments.

So let's get to the point ;)

    Superimposed Lines

Everything seems fine. Lines are confident and fray only on one side

    Ghosted Lines

Another well-done assignment. Lines are confident and done accurately

    Ghosted Planes

Once again everything looks everything looks great. Only one nitpick here - you didn't mark points for the ghosted lines you were goin for when doing the lines that halves the planes

Here is one example of this:

    Ellipses

Your ellipses are exceptionally good :)

    Funnels

    Again, everything looks great

    Plotted Perspective

    Everything looks good.

    Rough Perspective

Everything is good. I've got to say you have good aim with your rough perspective ;)

    Rotated Boxes

The only task that seems that gave you some problems but overall it looks good.

    Organic Boxes

Another one task bites the dust. Great job. There are some crooked boxes but i know we are not machines and we are not perfect.

    Summary

Everything seems to be really good looking and every task was well understood and executed.

Keep up the good work :)

Thank you for your insights :)

Thanks for picking it out that I curve my lines from time to time!

I did catch myself doing it sometimes so it is good to know that it is also noticeable by others, and it is not only my exaggeration. I'll try to work on that.

And as you've noticed elipses are my weakest side. As i was looking at others work I've seen that my ellipses are subpar, and i know i have to work on them.

Hi, I looked through your lesson 1 submitted homework, and i will try my best to critique it.

    Superimposed Lines

    Beautiful lines. Confident and accurate

    Ghosted Lines

Here it's even more apparent how accurate you can be with your confident lines

    Ghosted Planes

Nothing new to add. Great job

    Ellipses

Nice elipses. The only nitpick i would have is that they could be a little bit more snugly

    Funnels

Not much else i can say but - Nicely done.

    Plotted Perpective

Everything was done correctly. I can even see that it wasn't done in a rush ;)

    Rough Perspective

Great confidence and accuracy with your perspective

    Rotated Boxes

One of the better attempts that i have seen while looking at others homework :0

    Organic Boxes

This is the only assignment that stood out because it doesn't look perfect like the rest.

Not sure if I am right but it seems that you had some problems with 3 point perspective. There are few examples of boxes that have 2 sets of edges with their vanishing points set up almost perfectly, and one set is to parralel or spreading out instead of going for the same vanishing point. But I know from my own experience that it probably needs time to get the feel for it.

    Summary

Everything was greatly done. Nothing exceptionally bad or uncorrect.

Keep up the good work :)

Oh. And also, if you could spare a moment and critique my work i would be grateful, if not no worries.

    Next Steps:

    Go for 250 box challenge.

If I could suggest any of the assignments from the homework for you to include in your practice/warm up it would be elipses and organic boxes but this one is kind of included in 250 box challenge, so i think you can skip it ;)

Hi, I looked through your lesson 1 submitted homework, and i will try my best to critique it.

Keep in mind that my remarks could be just plainly wrong as i am also someone who just submitted his homework from lesson 1 for feedback. So my remarks could be based on wrongly understood guidelines in this lesson.

So let's get to the point ;)

    Superimposed Lines

Everything seems fine. Lines are confident and fray only on one side

    Ghosted Lines

Another well done assignment. Lines are confident and accurate for most part.

    Ghosted Planes

Once again everything looks well executed, nothing new to add

    Ellipses

Your elipses are exceptionally good. Accurate, drawn through and snugly :)

    Funnels

    Again everything looks good

    Plotted Perpective

I think that change of tools doesn't affect the outcome here. So everything seems to have been understood and done well.

    Rough Perspective

Here i can see you lost some confidence in your lines. They are more wobble than in your previous assignments. Probably because you wanted to be more accurate. I think it was mentioned to always value confidence over accuracy to learn better habits. But you have good accuracy and grasp of perspective

    Rotated Boxes

A good attempt at the task. Everything was well understood. Again wobbling is even more apparent here.

    Organic Boxes

There are a lot of boxes :0

And almost all of them looks nice :)

The wobbling from previous tasks is gone which is good to see.

The only nitpick i could add here is that there are a lot of small boxes compared to bigger ones. I know from experience after doing this task that smaller ones are easier because it's easier to hide mistakes with perspective and draw with your whole arm.

    Summary

Everything seems to be really good looking and every task was well understood and executed.

I only have seen some unconsistence with the wobbling with lines but i know it will come with practice and time ;)

Keep up the good work :)

Oh. And also, if you could spare a moment and critique my work i would be grateful, if not no worries.

    Next Steps:

    • 250 box challenge

    • after some time with the 250 box challenge maybe try again rotated exercise and see how it goes

    • i would suggest going for organic boxes as a warm up/practice but i think it won't be necessary with the 250 box challenge.

Just wow :0  ...  To be frank, everything seems almost perfectly done.

Straight, accurate, and confident lines, beautiful elipses, and every assignment is done without any fumble :)

Sorry if my critique isn't insightful, but I can't find anything i could critique.

Your work should be shown as something to strive for.

    Next Steps:

    Stright for 250 box challenge.

Hi, I looked through your lesson 1 submitted homework, and i will try my best to critique it.

Keep in mind that my remarks could be just plainly wrong as i am also someone that just submitted his homework from lesson 1 for feedback and this is also my first time giving critique in this community. So my remarks could be based on wrongly understood guidelines in this lesson.

Also, my first language is not English so bear with me

So let's get to the point ;)

    Superimposed Lines

Looking pretty good. Confident, straight and accurate lines. Some wobbling here and there but overall great.

There is also this weird part with long lines on one page where you've started your lines not from the set beginning but it is something that didn't recure so it's all good ;)

    Ghosted Lines

Yet again confident, straight and accurate lines. Maybe this time i can see some internal battle between being accurate and confident and sometimes being accurate comes on top which comes out in some wobbling or curved lines. It's still not a constant so i think that it is something you struggle with (i struggle with it to ). But i think i should mention this as a reminder that keeps popping up in this lesson that a confident line is more important than an accurate line.

    Ghosted Planes

This time this accurate line issue is more apparent. You put too much effort on closing the plane and making a perfect plane which makes the line not so straight. Don't get me wrong it is not too much of an error in your homework but something to keep your mind on i guess.

But speaking of errors there is one minor in this part. ALL lines should be ghosted in this assignment where you mark your starting and ending points and then ghost and draw the line. You've only marked lines for the sides and diagonal lines but not for the crossed ones. Here is an example: https://imgur.com/CSQFPt8

    Ellipses

Your elipses are looking really good. Only nitpick i could find is that you don't always draw through your elipses as was requested in the assignment 2 or 3 times. Sometimes you went with more like 1,5 times. But still it occured only several times so its not a big deal

    Funnels

    All good :)

    Plotted Perpective

For the most part everything seems good. Nothing worth mentioning

    Rough Perspective

So i can see you've struggled here but i am also able to notice that in those few attempts you've made an improvement.

The only errors i can point out are that again there is too much effort going for the accurate line and this time it is really apparent.

I would suggest when doing some wormups to try this assignment from time to time.

    Rotated Boxes

Great attempt with this one :)

    Organic Boxes

Nice job with this one. For 95% perspective looks good only a few slip ups here and there.

Again the issue here is with lines that could be more confident.

    Summary

So overall your homework looks good :).

I can't say you had any major errors. The only thing i would keep notice of in your shoes are confident lines.

Don't sweat about corners being perfect, confident lines are something you should be practicing to train your muscle memory.

Keep up the good work :)

Oh. And also, if you could spare a moment and critique my work i would be grateful, if not no worries.

    Next Steps:

Not sure what should i put here (:

    • practice confident lines, maybe combined with rough perspective

    • 250 boxes challenge

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
