I used OneNote to assmble these notations. They're the 3rd image in each series (Reference/Drawing/OneNote Page Screenshot) Hopefully I have done this part correctly. I tried to make sure I referenced the diagrams that I felt were most relevant to the animal I was drawing or areas where I thought I had trouble.

If I haven't taken notes correctly - are you able to give a bit more detail on what I should have done instead.

I am perfectly fine with paying for critique. I am not able to get any from local college courses on drawing or workshops - they're overly positive and what they claim is balanced critique is mostly empty praise with very little advice on how to improve (if at all).

I've been looking into other sources of critique and information on how to improve online (including New Masters Academy) but, people are rather tight lipped about what sort of feedback they've recieved from these courses. I'd be okay with people who give harsher feed back and have stricter guidelines for what passes a course. I'm also concerned that if I don't complete drawabox that I wouldn't be able to move on to harder and more advanced courses that are available.

Thanks for the critique. I'm trying to keep careful note of where I'm straying from the instructions. This time I've made sure to slow down and work on only one piece per day (maximum).

I have had trouble in the past with negative space because,I'm not sure how to mark off those areas when I'm using only pen.If I draw in a part (limb, head, stomach) and it looks wrong or it doesn't quiet match up with the negative space my only option is to start all over again. What is the best approach to fixing these areas or drawing them in correctly without adding extra lines (IE: drawing the negative space first then adding in the objects that border it)?

Gave it another attempt with another 4 insects. I have attempted to follow the instructions from both the lessons and critique as closely as possible. Hopefully these are a step in the right direction.

Real life events took a lot of my time for a while.

In any event here are the submissions:

10 more boxes with a much greater focus on the originating "Y". I think they look more like real boxes but, somehow the inside of the box tends to look more broken unfortunately. Maybe there is something I've missed here.

Another 30. I think the red lines are going in the correct direction bot the boxes seem less accurate (according to perspective) than I would like.

I really hope to correct this soon as it's causing some major issues with other kinds of drawing I'm doing.

Ah - upon inspecting it I realized that it was the previous attempt. Looking at the thumbnails they begin to bleed together.

This one is a 4x4 unlike the previous attempt. I'm usually careful about these things.

Yes, unfortunate in the previous attempts I was focus on the qaulity of the work. I also seem to have negelected the corner boxes in them. I was attempting to make the boxes obey a sphere; this time I tried to follow the exercise as close as possible.

My apologies; I will try to follow along as best I can from this point onward.

This time I have tried to follow the directions as much as possible. The lines do got a bit past where they should go instead of falling short of where they should go.

Sadly things still aren't aligned with the Cross I had draw initally. I tried to keep things together towards the end but, things still looks 'wobbly'.

I think the boxes in general look slightly better this time.

I will follow through with the exercises more pricesily in the future.

    Rotated Boxes

    Rough Perspective.

a lot of the time when I attempt to ghost lines I will end up with marks I had no intention of making. I'm placing the pen too close to the page. That is part of the issues when it comes to wobbly lines.

In the future I will try to make my objectives (dots) a bit smaller. I made the lines longer because I wanted more practice with larger pages.

The funnels concern me because I see to be getting away from the center lines that I make very often. This happens in other things such as the rotated boxes exercise. I'm having a lot of trouble with symmertry.

I have the tendency to go back over my lines because it is very distracting to see messed up lines. It does influnece the other lines I make. So it one is wrong and I base something off that the second, third and fourth will be progressively worse.

students drawing multiple frames for this exercise (each with their own distinct horizon line, vanishing points, sets of boxes, etc.) you appear to have only drawn one large one per page, with no frame. You appear to have done the same thing for the plotted perspective exercise as well. While this isn't a huge concern in the context of this exercise, any situation where a student opts to do something differently than shown in the instructions raises questions as to why - was it a conscious decision, or was the student not actually aware (perhaps they didn't go through the instructions as mindfully as they could have, in which case what else might have been missed?)

It was on purpose. Measuring out each border on the page as well as the gutters and getting everything centered is time consuming and a little annoying when I'm trying to practice another skill. Aside from that I would prefer to draw as large as possible instead of limiting everything to such a small area.

I followed the rough perspective red line the wrong way last time. It should be correct this time. I might have been thinking of something else. I drew the boxes first, the took a break, then came back and forgot I was suppose to contiune them with the red line instead of correct them. That has been fixed this time.

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
