    Looks better! Make sure you keep practicing drawing your lines with confidence. I had a similar problem when I originally did the rough perspective exercise. I was so worried about getting the perspective wrong that I was forgetting to draw my lines with confidence. Both my lines and perspective were significantly improved after completing the 250 box challenge. Keep at it. You're making great progress.

    This is much better. The lines on some of the rough perspective boxes are a bit wobbly, but you'll get lots of practice during the 250 box challenge. Also, don't worry too much about the perspective being off. It's expected at this point. You'll be much better after you draw 250 boxes. Keep up the good work.

    First off, your superimposed lines look alright. However, it looks like sometimes your line goes off in a direction you don't like, and then you course correct to get it "back on track". For the time being, you should be concerned with making confident strokes which flow smoothly. This should be your number 1 priority. You will develop accuracy as you work through the lessons. Heck, you'll get 3000 lines of practice when you make your way through the 250 box challenge.

    This lack of confidence and flow continues into your ghosted lines and planes. There is a little bit of wobbliness in your lines because you're so focused on making sure your line passes through that far point. Remember to ghost your lines until you've practiced the mark enough that you are confident enough to commit, then execute. But once you've committed to the line, there's no turning back. You want to build the habit of only putting a line down once you've given it some thought and you are ready.

    Your tables of ellipses look mostly good. Some of them don't look quite as smooth and rounded as the others. It may help to try drawing some ellipses at different speeds during subsequent warm-ups. When I started out, I would draw my ellipses way too fast, and this would make it very difficult to control the marks I would put down on my paper. Slowing things down a bit may help you get smoother, tighter ellipses. Another thing you may want to try is lifting your pen off the paper at the end of the ellipse. This will help prevent producing those little tails you have on several of your ellipses.

    Your ellipses in planes are much better.

    Your funnels exercise is pretty good; however, there you have small issue aligning the minor axes of your elipses. This would be a good thing to continue practicing during your warm-ups.

    Your plotted perspective is good.

    The rough perspective has the same issue with your lines lacking confidence. This is a common problem. People can experience cognitive overload when they attempt this exercise because they try to juggle too many things at once. Don't lose sight of the fact that these are still just lines. They're no different from the ones you drew in the previous exercises. It will make things easier to manage if you break it down into separate steps. First, plot your perspective as accurately as possible. Second, build up your muscle memory by applying the ghosting method and execute the line with confidence when you're ready. In addition to line quality, some of your lines significantly miss the mark. Make sure you take as much time as you need to plot things out. You should check and then double check. Remember, once you put a mark down on your paper you won't be able to take it back.

    Your rotated boxes look ok. There could be a bit more rotation in there. It might be worth coming back to this exercise once you've completed the 250 box challenge.

    Your organic perspective also looks good. The line quality is also a bit better here.

    Before you move onto the 250 box challenge, you should do a single panel of the rough perspective exercise just to make sure you understand what's expected from you for this exercise and the 250 box challenge.

    This submission is incomplete. None of the ellipse exercises are included: Tables of Ellipses, Ellipses in Planes, and Funnels.

    Your superimposed lines are good for the most part. However, the trajectory on the longer lines is wobbly. Make sure you are drawing with confidence and from the shoulder. The ghosted lines and planes demonstrate another issue. You have a habit of restating your lines to correct mistakes. All this does is draw attention to any errors you have made. Work on breaking this habit.

    The plotted perspective is okay, but many of the vertical lines are not truly vertical. Additionally, you went overboard with the line weight. The line weight should be subtle. On top of that, the line weight looks a bit hairy. Also, some of the boxes look unfinished. Specifically three of your boxes in the middle panel. You did not completely draw the the boxes for 2 of them, and one of them appears to be missing lines on the top. As for the rough perspective, the line quality is not great. While it looks like you've made an effort to plot the lines back to the vanishing points, that same care was not used when putting down ink for your lines. The lines are wobbly, and you also restate your lines several times.

    You've said you did not use the ghosting method for some of the exercises, but you did not specify which for which exercises. I'll assume that the "Ghosted Lines" and "Ghosted Planes" exercises were completed using the ghosting method, and the "Rough Perspective" looks (somewhat) ghosted as well. However, it's clear that the "Rotated Boxes" and "Organic Perspective" exercises were not ghosted. The lines for the rotated boxes are extremely hairy, and the lines for the organic perspective are laid down without much thought. Remember that smooth, confident lines are your top priority. Accuracy will develop as you work through the lessons.

    It looks like you rushed through this lesson a bit. Remember, drawing is not a skill you will acquire over night. Take your time and complete each exercise to the best of your current ability. And try to enjoy the journey. Make sure you implement the 50% rule so that you don't experience burnout.

    Next Steps:

    Before you can move on to the "250 Box Challenge", you need to show your 2 pages of "Tables of Ellipses", 2 pages of "Ellipses in Planes", and 1 page of "Funnels". Also, you should redo 1 panel of "Rough perspective" with confident, ghosted lines, redo your "Rotated Boxes" with clean, confident, ghosted lines, and do 1 panel of "Organic Perspective" with confident, ghosted lines.

    I have a small suggestion with regards to a note you wrote on the second sheet of your "Circles in Ellipses" exercise. I also used to have an issue with my hand snagging the paper when I was working near the edge. Something that worked for me is working on a small stack of sheets. When I get near the edge, I slide the sheets over so that my fingers can slide across the edge more easily without snagging.

    Next, the critique. The "Funnels of Ellipses" exercise looks good, but there should be a bit more variation in the degrees of the ellipses. If you look at the example homework (https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/13/example) you'll see that the ellipses are significanly narrower towards the center of the funnel. Another thing, the ellipses are slightly misaligned to the minor axis. It's not too bad, but it's something you should keep in mind when repeating these exercises for future warm-ups.

    The plotted perspective looks good, but there's an issue with your rough perspective. Your lines look a bit wobbly in some areas, and it looks like you restate several of your lines to cover over mistakes. All this does is draw attention to your these mistakes. Remember that you should draw your lines with confidence first and foremost. Take your time to plan out the line, and then execute the line with confidence. I understand that at this stage trying to get the right perspective and drawing in the lines is cognitive overload. Just take your time. Treat each step as a separate task. Plan out the perspective as best you can, putting points down where necessary. Then once your perspective is planned out, execute the lines with confidence using the ghosting method.

    The "Rotated Boxes" exercise is incomplete. You are missing the 4 boxes in the corners.

    Finally, the organic perspective. You've already admitted these are rushed, and it shows. The lines are wobbly, and there isn't very much care taken in how the boxes exist in 3-D space.

    Next Steps:

    Before you move onto the "250 Box Challenge", I recommend you do one panel (not page) each of the "Rough Perspective" and the "Organic Perspective" exercises. You should also complete the "Rotated Boxes" exercise.

    Some of those bad lines are actually me repeating the stroke because the ink didn't flow out of my pen properly, or I accidentally touched the paper while ghosting. That being said, I'll be keeping all of your suggestions in mind, and I'll be sure to put them into practice as I work through lesson 2.

    I notice that I have a really hard time aiming the converging lines at the vanishing point for boxes that are farther away. They converge, but they fall short of the VP. My lines are still a bit wobbly. I think I'm so focused on getting the perspective right that I hesitate when I go to put the line down.

    Lupursian should work through the 250 box challenge before they start on lesson 2 so that they can really hone their perspective skills. Other than that I agree. Good quality lines and ellipses, and a solid understanding of what the objective of the exercises were. The only thing that needs work is the perspective, which can be improved by working through the 250 box challenge.

    I'm not sure lesson 2 is the next step for Elly. I think it would be better for them to work through the 250 box challenge first. Other than that I agree. Elly is ready to move on to the next step.

    Your lines don't look too bad. They get a little wobbly in the perspective section, but I'm guessing that's because your brain is on overload trying to work out where everything should be going. Don't forget that those boxes are made up of lines, so you should treat them just like the lines you drew for the ghosted lines and planes exercises.

    Some of your ellipses in planes are not touching all 4 sides of the plane. I don't think you need to redo them, but when you repeat them for warmups you may need to ghost them a bit more before you put the ink down. It's going to be important for you to do them properly when you get to drawing cylinders. Additionally, the minor axes of your ellipses in the funnel of ellipses exercise should be aligned with the center line. Again, you don't need to redo them because you did a pretty good job most of the time. Just keep that in mind for when you repeat the exercise during warmups.

    The second box down in the second panel of your first page of the organic perspecitive exercise, the mor vertical lines diverge significantly. This should never happen. Those lines should instead converge. That's why that box looks so distorted.

    I think it's time for you to work through the 250 box challenge. It will significantly help with your ability to draw in perspective, and will reduce the frequency at which you make errors with respect to parallel lines diverging, or converging too fast, present in your perspective exercises.

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
