I will give this a shot and see how it goes. From raising my chair up, I do think I've been a bit low. I will do some lesson 1 exercises and post them in the discord and get some feedback.

But don't people recommend an angle for drawing? Aren't drawing desks angled or something?

    Thank you Box Man,

    Kraken

    Thank you, Box Man.

I think I'm not understanding what you mean by drawing through the ellipses. Every time I let it go twice without thinking it through and being slow, it becomes a mess of bad, nearly two different ellipses. When I really try, I'm able to stay fairly accurate to the first ellipse. Not always, but sometimes it can be right on top.

I think I should go back and read Lesson 1 on that then, maybe but if you had another bit of wisdom to drop, I'd appreciate it.

I'm not sure how to be more confident. I try to ghost, I try to just do it, but it still seems to catch me. I don't know if this is a me vs the fineliners or just me vs lack of confidence. Things seem to be a bit better when I'm not doing homework.

Who knows, I don't want to take up much more of your time right now. I know you've got a vacation coming up. It'll be awhile before ya see a submission from me no doubt, but thank you, especially for the compliment. I really want to be better.

    All the best,

    Kraken

Enjoy your vacation! I'm going to take a week off of Draw a Box as well I think.

    Thank you, Box Man.

Your lessons have helped a lot and are inspiring me to greater heights. Thank you for all the assistance.

Hope to see this out and make ya somewhat proud.

    Now, time for some cylinders.

    All the best,

    Hello again,

First off, thank you as always for the thorough critique. I really appreciate it. Whether I pay for this service or not, it means a lot.

    Animals

I did some more animal constructions as per the request and kept the aniamsl varied. To give a clue into my thoughts: I'm most pleased with the Gazelle, and least with the Stag redraw.

I wanted to do the stag again to see if I could make it better. Antlers are simply insanity. Though perhaps that's impatience and rushing.

But, here are the revisions. If you deem more to be necessary, I will do those as well. I tried to incorporate everything you gave feedback on, and went and re-read Lesson 4's feedback for the building of forms on the sausages.

    Thanks as always,

    Kraken

    Hello Box Man,

Thank you for all this. I'll work towards incorporating your advice and instruction further. You're helping out a lot.

Next time, I won't ask so many questions!

    Big regards,

    Kraken

Time to go reread it. And practice ellipses. And reading comprehension.

I think I understand a bit better. Thank you for that. That Proko video was what actually brought me back to DaB after working through some things. I too have no mental image at all within the old dome piece so the constructional approach you were teaching seemed appropriate even more so after I had wandered to other areas of draftsmanship.

I'll need to go back and rewatch that video again and take more of it into mind.

And I do feel I don't do enough of the other side of the 50%. Limited time makes me feel like I need to study study study study but I'm understasnding more why the 50% is there.

Well, thank you Box Man. Your help is inspiring, and deeply appreciated. I will say this multiple times throughout this but I hope one day to go from considering you a teacher to considering you a peer. Doesn't mean I couldn't keep learning new things from you!

    Regards,

Hello Box Man (I'm not sure what you'd prefer to be regarded as. I've been using Box Man in the discord and what not.),

Thank you tremendously for taking the time to tear these down and give your expertise. I fear I lost my way when it came to the scaffolding idea for construction (and apparently completely lost the sauce when it came to branches.)

I suppose, in a way, I'm confused. I know this part is all about the learning and the fundamental idea behind it all but how does it eventually turn into just drawing? That feels so silly to ask but what I mean is how do I start to draw without all the construction lines? Maybe that's just far out of reach for now, I just wish I understood the process of how I would draw all these leaves built into ovals when I don't have the ovals. Not every drawing could have an underlay, right? Like the concept art that you do.

Either way, thank you for all the information and your time. I'm going to continue working towards the weaknesses and shoring up the strengths.

    Regards,

    Kraken

    Hello Tofu,

Thank you as always for the feedback on these. It's very helpful to have trained eyes peep at all these things.

I think I'm starting to understand the degree of the sausages and what not a bit more. I hope that came through better as it went from the original contour exercise to the stacked sausages.

As for the texture lesson. I did lose my mind there. That was the absolute worst thing I've ever had to try and accomplish and I've decided that I'm only going to live in a smooth world for now on. I received some good information from the Box Chief himself in the discord on that lesson (Right before I drew the last texture, the Sunflower Seeds) which seemed to help some.

Either way! It's on to lesson three. Your feedback is heard and I'm going to work toward incorporating that going forward.

    All the best,

    Kraken

    Hello Tofu,

Big thanks for the critique. I appreciate ya takin' a look at my boxes and providing the insight. I'll plow forward and continue on with the lessons with all this in mind!

    All the best,

You're right, I need to be more mindful and thorough in my planning. The hardest hurdle for me is planning, doing, and seeing it come out wrong. Failure is a hard thing to accept when you feel you're so far behind the curve of making art a thing in your life professional and otherwise.

I really appreciate the time you took to help me. Hope to see you all again at the end of the 250 box challenge or when next we meet.

    Thank you,

    Kraken

Pentel Pocket Brush Pen

Pentel Pocket Brush Pen

This is a remarkable little pen. Technically speaking, any brush pen of reasonable quality will do, but I'm especially fond of this one. It's incredibly difficult to draw with (especially at first) due to how much your stroke varies based on how much pressure you apply, and how you use it - but at the same time despite this frustration, it's also incredibly fun.

Moreover, due to the challenge of its use, it teaches you a lot about the nuances of one's stroke. These are the kinds of skills that one can carry over to standard felt tip pens, as well as to digital media. Really great for doodling and just enjoying yourself.
