I appreciate that. Now that i think about, I locking my wrist is my biggest issue. I think i focus so much on using my shoulder, I forget the other important aspects.

As for repeating lines, I took a break for a bit to study for SAT's, and... well, forgot that too.

I need to pay more attention to things like this, so thank you for pointing them out

Good job!!! I feel you, I hated this challenge, but we got through it!

    ****Things you did well

Box varyation: you practcied a lot of different kinda of boxes and perspectives, which should help you learn a lot

    Confident lines

Not much divergence. Your lines tend to converge together more and more as tine goes on.

    ****Things you could improve

Your highlighted lines when drawing through the boxes are wobbly? Is it your ruler? Not really a "problem" but its a little distracting

Drawing larger: This will help practice drawing from the shoulder as well as make it easier for me to see whats going on. At this size, you could be getting straight lines drawing from the elbow or wrist, which is not our goal.

Inner corner: Its normal for this to be the most off because it is affected by every little mistake made earlier. One way to help though is to draw the inner corner first before drawing your last corner. This may help you visualize the whole box at once.

Hinestly I saw anlit of improvement and I think you did a great job!

It seems like you really commited yourself to this and learned a lot, good job! I hope that my critique can help a bit, although it seems like you already have a good sense on how to improve from here.

    **Things you did well

Lineweight: the lineweight you added was very clean, although adding a bit more to the front corner instead of just the oustide would also be good

Line confidence: Your lines are incredibly smooth! Its honestly amazing

    ****Things you could improve

Drawing parallel lines: it looks like you are sometimes drawing your lines parallel to each other. At some pount, they have to converge When they are too close together, its hard to tell if they are divergent or not. Not really a hig deal.

More dramatic perspective/variety: most of your boxes were a similar perspective, more boxes with dramatic foreshortening would have been good practice.

Honestly... I dont have much else to say. This is pretty much just awesome work all around.

Good job!!!! I struggled with rushing my work too, putting on relaxing music or thinking in terms of time instead of numbers of boxes was helpful, as well as taking a break whenever i noticed it happening.

    Things you did well

Hatching: your hatchwork is neat and even, making each box much easier to process

Line confidence: this is also something you could improve on, but it seems like you have a good grasp on this. When your lines wobble, they keep wobbling if that makes sense. For example there will be a group of wobbly lines, whcih tells me its just a problem because of rushing. That might be something to be aware of.

Depth variety: you pracitcied a lot of box orientations

    Things you could improve

Drawing lines parallel/divergent: this improved over time; its a pracrice thing but you have a strong pattern of converging towards the viewer instead of away. This might be do to rushing, but try to imagine the whole box together

    converging in pairs

Drawing larger: this will help practice with your shoulder and make it more readable.

inner corner: the inner corner is usually the most off. This is normal, but something that can help is drawing the back side of the box ( the inner corner) before completing the front.

I feel like youve learned a lot, but since you were rushing so often i think i want you to draw 10 more boxes. Just try to slow down a bit, and try to viaualize the whole box at once. I want this to just be an excercise in patience.

    Next Steps:

    10 boxes pls

    Things you did great

Lineweight was a great touch, and definately madenit easier to analyze.

Not much divergence: I didnt really see your lines duverge from one another much (excluding back corners). Generally, all of your lines met the othwrs at some point.

Confident lines: your lines are straight, aacurate, and clean, even with lineweight.

Good variety: I think you practiced with all kinds of perspectives and boxes, which will help you a lot in the long run.

    Things to improve

Drawing larger: near the end you seem to do this, but overall drawing larger boxes would be helpful for learning how to use your shoulder and such.

Converging in pairs: i dont think you are always visualizing all 4 lines at once. Often two lines will converge, and tge other rwo will converge, but not all four.

I think this looks great. Obviously there is room for improvement but you've made great strides already and its clear you put a lot of work into this. Your boxes in the begginning are drastically different than the end, at least in my opinion, so i think you leatned what you needed to here. Awesome job!

    THINGS YOU DID WELL

your lines are very confident and smooth

cross hatching is smooth, and parallel to one another

Your lines converge together most of the tiem

    Things to improve

Could be drawing larger. This makes using the shoulder easier and is better practice.

More dramatic foreshortening. You do a good job with your perspective, but the persoective you draw them at seems to be consistently similar similar.

Drawing lines parallel: you often draw lines parallel to one another instead of converging them. Parallel in 2D space?Parallel in 3D space

Converging in pairs instead of 4s: you make 2 lines and tge other 2 converge seprately sometimes, instead of letting all 4 lines converge at the same point. Ou actually do this more at the end, which tells me you may have been rushing. But i saw a lot of overall improvement anf I think you have a great sense of rhe important lessons from this challenge.

The box challenge is... annoying, to say the least, but your patience has clearly payed off and I thi k you are ready for lesson 2! Good luck

Thank you. I drew a few ellipses real quick following that advice, and it helped a lot, i think that was my exact problem.

Honestly a lot of my issues with lines are from going too fast. I really an trying to focus its just a habit i need to work on breaking i suppose.

I have no clue how i missed drawing through the boxes on rough perspective (probably rushing), thank you for catching that.

Thank you for this, your advice is really hepful and i appreciate it.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
