Hello, and congratulations on finishing lesson 1! Of Dab, I'm Kat, and I'll be critiquing your work. Let's get started.

    Starting off with lines

Your superimposed lines are well done, I see no fraying from the start of your lines, and I like how nice and confident your lines are. Moving on to ghosted lines, your lines are well done, there isn't much to say here.

Ghosted planes + Ellipses in planes

Your lines are nice and confident, and there's a good amount of arcing on your planes. And I liked how your striving to hit all borders of the planes.

    Tables of ellipses

I like how nice and snug your ellipses are, and I can tell your drawing through your ellipses at least two to three times.

    Funnels

Your funnels look well done. And I like how nice and snug your funnels are, I can see a nice degree shift on your funnels. And I can tell you're lining up your ellipses into two even symmetrical halves.

    Moving on to boxes

    Plotted perspective

Your plotted perspective looks well done. There isn't much to say here. I like how you've taken your time to cross-hatch your boxes.

    Rough perspective

Your rough perspective looks well done, there isn't much to say here.

    Rotated boxes

Your rotated boxes are well done. I can tell your boxes are roated clearly towards a vanshing point.

    And lastly, organic perspective

You've done really well here, there's a good amount of box rotations with size variety and depth, and you'll do even better during the 250 challenge.

Overall, this was a strong submission, and I can confidently mark this lesson as complete congratulations. Add the rest of lesson 1 to your pool of warm-ups and move on to the 250 box challenge. If you have any questions, simply reply below.

Good luck with the 250 box challenge and the rest of Dab.

    Next Steps:

Add lesson 1 to your pool of warm-ups and move on to the 250-box challenge

Hello and congratulations on finishing lesson 1 of Dab. I'm Kat, and I'll be critiquing your work. Let's get started.

    Starting off with lines

Your superimposed lines look well done. I see no fraying from the start of your lines, and I liked how you've added some nice curves.

Moving on ghosted lines, they also look well done. There isn't much to say here, but I like how nice and confident your lines are.

    Ellipses in planes

Your lines are nicely done here. I see a good amount of arcing on your planes, and I like how you're striving to hit all borders of the planes.

    Tables of ellipses

Your lines are nicely done here. I like how nice and well fit your ellipses are with each other.

    Funnels

Your funnels are well done, there isn't much to say here.

    Moving on to boxes

Your plotted perspective looks well done. One thing I'll recommend is to cross-hatch the front planes of your boxes.

    Rough perspective

Your rough perspective looks good. I see you've extended your back corners correctly. One thing I'll recommend is to take a bit more time ghosting your lines. Some of your lines are a bit wobbly.

    Rotated boxes

Your rotated boxes are nicely done, your boxes are nice and snug with each other.

    And finally, organic perspective

There's a nice amount of rotations with a good amount of size variety and depth. You've done really well here, and you'll do even better on the 250-box challenge.

Overall, this was a strong submission. I had a hard time critiquing this one since there wasn't much to critique. I can clearly tell you're following the lesson 1 material as intended. I'll go ahead and mark this as complete.

    Next Steps:

Add lesson 1 your pool of warm-ups and move on to the 250-box challenge

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

Hello, and thanks for submitting the 10 boxes!

Your lines look nice and confident, and I liked how you've taken your time to extend the inner corners of the boxes. Box convergences are really well done.

I'll go ahead and mark this challenge as complete congratulations.

    As for your pens,

I think it might be the brand of the fineliner. If not, maybe it's the pressure of the pens? I'll recommend not pressing down on your pens so hard. If you still have any questions regarding the issue of your pens, you should check out the Dab Discord. There's a nice community of people willing to help out.

Good luck with lesson 2 and the rest of Dab.

    Next Steps:

Add this challenge to your warm-up pool and move on to lesson 2.

Hello and congratulations on finishing the 250-box challenge. I'm Kat, and I'll be critiquing your work. Let's get started.

    The first fifty

The first thing I've noticed is your lines are wobbly, and I did spot some chicken scratchy lines. Remember to use the ghosting method for a clean, confident stroke. One thing I'll recommend is to grab a separate sheet of loose leaf paper and practice some superimposed lines and ghosted planes to help with your line confidence before doing your Dab work for the day. Remember to take your time and don't rush. A smooth, confident line should overite accuracy.

Moving on to boxes, I can tell your boxes are converging nicely towards the set vanishing points. It's hard to tell, but I've noticed you've forgotten to extend your inner corners of your boxes. In the future, I'll recommend you read the lesson material and watch the video carefully and take your time.

    The next fifty

This set is more challenging as it removes the set's vanishing points and requires more intuition. I think your off to a pretty decent start, however, there's a few notes I want to point out. Firstly, I did notice some of your boxes have a converging set of parallel lines. mainly, boxes 70,74,75,96 This is a common mistake that many students make, and it usually takes some time and practice to get the hang of it. When adding  the box challenge to your pool of warm-ups, I'll recommend adding the set vanishing points to help you with your convergences so you can really get the idea down. I did notice you haven't extend your inner corners in this set too.

    The final 150

For your final 150, I think your convergences are coming along nicely, you've included a nice variety of box rotations and a good amount of different box shapes, however, I think there's still some room for improvement before I can mark this challenge as complete.

    What you can improve on

~I think the most important thing we need to work on is line confidence, like I said earlier. Some of your lines are chicken scratchy or wobbly. Remember to take your time to use the ghosting method for a clean, confident stroke. Accuracy should be a second priority.

~ The second thing is to extend your inner corner. I've noticed your inner corners aren't extended. Like I said, I reccamond re-reading the lesson material and watching the video again to see how uncomfy extends his lines.

I think that covers it. I'll be requesting an additional 10 more boxes before moving on to the next lesson. Remember to take your time, and I'll reply as soon as I can. If you have any questions, simply reply below.

    Next Steps:

Submit 10 more boxes, then I can mark this challenge as complete.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hello and congratulations on finishing lesson 1! From what I can tell, this looks like a strong submission, let's get it critiqued.

    Starting off with lines

Your lines look nice and confident. I see no fraying from the start of your lines, you've done well here.

    Ghosted lines

I did notice a bit of minor wobbles. Remember to draw all your lines with a clean, confident stroke. Everything else looks ok.

    Moving on to ellipses

    Ellipses in planes

There's a good amount of arcing on your planes, and I like how you're striving to hit all borders of the planes. There isn't much to say here.

    Tables of ellipses

You've done really well here. I like how nice and snug your ellipses are, and I can see your drawing through your ellipses at least two to three times.

    Funnels

Your funnel looks okay. I like how nice and snug your ellipses are, and I can tell your ellipses are cut into two even symmetrical halfs. One thing I'll recommend is to look out for degree shifts on your ellipses. most of your ellipses have the same degree. I'll reccamond re-reading the ellipses section again before doing this excercise as a warm-up.

    And finally, boxes

    Plotted perspective

Your plotted perspective looks good and I liked how confidently you've cross-hatched your boxes.

    Rough perspective

Your rough perspective looks good, and I liked how you extended your back edges correctly. One thing I'll reccamond is to plan out your back edges carefully towards the vanishing point some of your back ends look a bit slanted.

    Rotated boxes

Your rotated boxes are really well done. I can tell your boxes are actually rotating towards the vanishing point, and I like how nice and snug your boxes are.

    Organic perspective

Your organic perspective is nicely done, there's a good amount of size verity and a nice amount of rotations. I did notice there's several diverging parallel lines, but that'll be fixed with the 250-box challenge.

I think that covers it, your lesson 1 is nicely done, and I can tell you are following the lesson 1 material as intended. I think I can confidently mark this submission as complete. Remember to add the rest of lesson 1 to your pool of warm-ups and move on to the 250-box challenge. And don't forget the 50% rule.

    Next Steps:

Add lesson 1 to your pool of warm-ups and move on to the 250 box challenge

Hello and congratulations on finishing lesson 1! From what I can tell, this looks like a strong submission, let's get it critiqued.

    Starting off with lines

Your superimposed lines look well done. I've seen no fraying from the start of your lines. You've drawn them with a clean and confident stroke.

    Ghosted lines

Your ghosted lines look okay. I did notice a bit of wobble here. Remember to ghost your lines using the ghosting method a few times accuracy should be your second priority.

    Tables of ellipses

Your tables of ellipses look well done. I like how you've drawn your ellipses at least two to three times they also fit nice and snug with each other.

    Ellipses in planes

Your ellipses in planes also look well done. I do recommend you start arcing your planes more, they do look a bit too uniform. I do like how you're trying to hit all borders of the planes.

    Funnels

Your ellipses are nice and well fit with each other. I can also see a decent amount of degree shifts on your ellipses.

    Plotted perspective

Your plotted perspective looks well done. I liked how you've took the time to cross-hatch your boxes.

    Rough perspective

Your rough perspective looks well done. I like how clean and confident your lines are, and you've plotted your back ends correctly as if you had x-ray vision. You've also extended your lines correctly.

    Rotated boxes

Your roated boxes look well done there isn't much to say here.

    And finally, organic perspective

I see a good amount of box rotations and size variety in depth. You've done well here. One thing I'll recommend is to cross-hatch your boxes facing towards the viewer it'll help your line confidence.

I've seen you've followed the lesson 1 material as intended and I think I can confidently mark this submission as complete. Add the rest of lesson 1 to your pool of warm-ups, then move on to the 250-box challenge. If you have any questions, simply reply below.

Hello and congratulations on finishing the 250-box challenge! It was a major hurdle to get through, and I'm glad you've completed it. Let's get it critiqued.

Let's start off with the first 50

Your first 50 boxes are well done. I've seen you've included a great amount of rotations, and your convergences are coming along quite well. One thing I'll recommend is to cross-hatch your boxes facing toward the viewer, this will help with your line weight, and you can practice drawing your lines with a clean, confident, stroke. You don't have to do this but you should keep this in mind during your warm-ups.

    The next fifty

This set is more challenging as it removes the pre-plotted vanishing points you're supposed to estimate the converging lines on your own. You've done quite well here. One thing I did notice is that some of your boxes have several diverging parallel lines. Remember, your boxes are supposed to converge towards a single vanishing point. One thing I'll recommend is during your warm-ups, try doing the box challenge in the first 50 style (plotting the vanishing points) so you can really get used to the idea that boxes are supposed converge instead of diverging.

The rest of your boxes look well done. I can tell you're getting used to the idea of estimating your convergences. I think I can mark this challenge as complete. Add this challenge to your warm-up pool, and if you have any questions, simply reply below. Good luck with lesson 2 and rest of draw a box.

    Next Steps:

Add this challenge to your pool of warm-ups then move on to lesson 2.

Some of you will have noticed that Drawabox doesn't teach shading at all. Rather, we focus on the understanding of the spatial relationships between the form we're drawing, which feeds into how one might go about applying shading. When it comes time to learn about shading though, you're going to want to learn it from Steven Zapata, hands down.
