Hi, I've attached the link to the recent upload for Lesson 2's intersection.

    9:06 PM, Saturday June 18th 2022

Thank you. After this reply I went back and did some more practice and I recognized that while I do consider all 4 lines I do tend to focus on paralleling the corner boxe lines. I do believe I have broadened my understanding of where the box sits in 3-D space a bit more.

Will definitely work on the intersections portion. Thank you for the critique.

    HI,

It took a long while but here are the 30 extra boxes. I did the best I could.

Thanks for responding. I suppose I've been so hard on myself as of late because I have so much expectations for me. I have been at it for months and it feels as though I am unable to make any progress. I haven't given up, and I don't intend to. I do appreciate the encouragement. I will do my best.

Thanks for responding. Hey, have you figured out a way to lessen the focus a bit? I had to sleep it off and my mind is a bit more renewed this morning (over here as of writing), though I am a bit worried I'll be making mistakes.

    Hi,

    Allow me to critique?

So, I went through your body of work and it appears to me that you've missed out on understanding crucial concepts that are very necessary for the amount of work you've submitted. As this is the first lesson in the entire series I will treat it with the same regard.

    Lines:

Your Superimposed lines are fraying on both ends with some floating above the other. While we're not aiming for perfection and effort is better than nothing your lines lack confidence. You can eliminate this issue by practicing to use your shoulder more. Make sure you are ghosting the lines, though. If you're unsure, do about 8 imaginary strokes above the paper before you commit to a single line, it does help.

    Ellipses:

The ellipses are good to go, the funnels, however, could use a retry. You're allowing the ellipses to escape their funnel border, and they're not alternating in size nor shape. Don't be afraid to go slow. Don't rush. You won't learn.

The ellipses in planes are not following the same perspective. You're twisting the ellipses to meet an angle when the top and bottom of the ellipses should touch the z axis.

    Boxes:

    Rough perspective is good.

Plotted perspective could be a bit more tidier, probably re-do this one as well.

    Next Steps:

Please re-do the exercise. I know it's long and frustrating, and you've come so far (lesson 6) but there are fundamental issues you're having that will not allow you to improve the way you want. Please properly read over the material and if you can afford to, get an official critique. It will improve your skills immensely. Remember, DO NOT QUIT. Art takes long. I've been at this for years and I'm trying hard too. You got this.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

    Hi,

I understand. I've returned to the assignment but I still have issues with the Y axis, while the X and Z axis are more often converging in sets. As for drawing larger, I do find that difficult to do on the A4 paper so I'm switching to a sketchpad. However, I feel frustrated because I'm not interpreting something correctly. Is there an even easier way to explain the vanishing point placement and how to get the lines to converge accurately? I'm stumped and stuck. Thanks!

    Hi there,

I appreciate the critique, I do have a few questions. I'm struggling with boxes and perspective, and it's quite hard to do these but I will do my best.

Hey there, I'm happy you did your best and will be critiquing you today :).

    Lines:

a).Superimposing lines - You did a good job following the instructions. You were very thorough with your markmaking. Perhaps one or two lines ended up tunnel fraying, but that's okay. You did really good. Good job!

b). Ghosted lines - You met target to target, that's good but I noticed that some of the lines arced a bit. I can also tell you attempted to reconnect lines. You can easily eliminate this issue if you imagine you're driving from point A to B and use your shoulder a bit more to commit to the stroke. Otherwise, it's all good. You did a great job on the superimposing lines but perhaps the goal made you overthink?

c). Ghosted planes - This one had a lot of confidence and you had fun drawing these.

    Ellipses:

a). Table of Ellipses - Your ellipses weren't as confident as the ones you drew in the planes, try to ghost them more and use the shoulders to assist. Otherwise, this one is good.

b). Ellipses in Funnel - This exercise can be intimidating because of the shape of the funnel. You lost a bit of confidence here, there are a lot of border breaking circles that were a bit wobbly. Also, you didn't correctly align most of the ellipses. However, I DID see that you straightened up your funnels and ellipses in the latter editions, which I'm guess are the smaller ones. It shows you were able to understand where you went wrong. The second furthermost left, and the one above it are good examples of you making corrections. Still, try to keep the ellipses within the borders. Some of these ellipses were not drawn over. I think this one could use some improvements.

    Boxes:

a). Plotted perspective - This one is good. No complaints.

b). Rough Perspective - You also followed the instructions well.

c). Rotating boxes - This one gives EVERYONE trouble but you managed to do it. You drew through your boxes, you kept them within the same space, though some boxes didn't appear to be rotating. This is probably an issue with interpreting where to lead back into your vanishing point. Otherwise, this is good. The lesson never called for us to nail this, so I say you got this one.

d). Organic boxes - this one is good as well. your lines here are a little bit curvy, try to ghost them a bit. Otherwise, nice job.

    Next Steps:

My next step I recommend is for you to practice your superimposed and plotted strokes in your spare time. The reason is that I noticed a common flaw in a lot of your line work - your lines are wobbly and feel uncommitted. You have to trust your eye and your arm and follow through. So practice those two exercises to help you get into the rhythm of following through. Do it slow, then do it fast. Start with small lines, then build up to larger. Each line you attempt you use your shoulders to glide your pen. Let you lead the pen.

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
