Just remember to take your time, this is no race and no one will rush you, in the end you are your own teacher and while the course has a guide there is no time frame, i know people took 2 years yo finish it and people who took 6 months (this is insane).

So just go at your own pace and youll be fine and improve your fundamental skills.

    Hello Pelletproject,

    Lines

Superimposed lines seem to wobble wuite a bit, remember to ghost each one, draw from the shoulder and be confident over accurate.

This is also the case with your ghosted lines, you seem to be focusing on conecting the dots over making one fluid line.

    Elipses

I realy like your Planes, while the lines have the issues mentiones avobe, the elipses are realy good, on some of them you focus to much on touching the sides and sacrifice the round shape of the elipse, but over all they are very confidant and they will become accurate with time, keep it up.

Tables are also good, confidence wise you are almost there. Remeber to ghost and draw from shoulder.

Funnels are good, nicely aligned, remember elipses should barely touch eachother and only do UP TO 3 PASSES, i can see you did 4 on some.

    Boxes

Rotated boxes are quite good, some minor alignment issues remember https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/9a16c189.jpg the distance between boxes should be consistant, also there are some rotation issues mostly on the alst boxes, they should be rotating harder to avoid this https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/d73eea49.jpg.

Also dont overdo lineweight, keep it to one superimposed line.

Organic persepctive is realy nice, but i notice you did multple passes for some lines, correcting them. Dont do this, this covers up the mistake and makes it harder to see, the objective is not something pretty but to learn.

Over all really nice first lesson

    Next Steps:

Onward to 250 Box challenge. Good luck and keep it up :)

    Hello Teru0x0,

    Lines

Superimposed lines seem to have wobblying, especially in longer lines, remember to draw from your shoulder and to focus on confidance over accuracy.

Ghosted lines seem to have the same wobbly issue.

    Elipses

On planes while focusing on touching the sides is important dont focus too much on that since it will make your elipses look square like, also remember to use the ghosting method and making your motion swift and fluid.

I like your tables, i can see improvement from the first to the second which is a good sign. keep focusing on confidance and accuracy will come with time and repetition.

Your funnels are nicely aligned but remeber elipses should be touching.

    Boxes

Really nice boxes, Rough perspective is really good as well as your rotated boxes, just some really minor alignement issues and the fact that the last box could be rotating more.

Organic perspective is nice, it would be good to experiment with different sizes next time. Also when adding line weight be carefull to not over do it, keep it to one superimposed line.

    Next Steps:

Onward to 250 Box challenge and good luck :)

    Hello Marcelina,

    Lines

Superimposed and ghosted lines look nice, although there is some arching. Make shure you are using your shoulder to draw, also try do more variety in the size.

    Elipses

Your planes look good but there is more wobblying in them , remember confidance over accuracy, this is also notisable on your elipses. While they are very accurate they are also very wobbly. I cant stress enogh how important it is to focus on the fluidity of the line/elipse over the accuracy, you will miss, but accuracy will come in time and repetition.

Also focusing too much on touching the edges makes elipses look more square like.

    Funnels are very nicely aligned.

    Boxes

Rotated boxxes is a very difficult excercise, there are quite a few issues here but over time you will improve so dont worry. First your corners are not aligned for the most part, the spaces in between boxes should be equidistant and aligned ttps://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/9a16c189.jpg . Also some boxes seem to not be rotating https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/d73eea49.jpg id recomend reading the boxes section again carefully before moving forward.

On organic perspective i notice you did some "corrections" by drawing over your mistakes, dont do this , you need to see your mistakes and then move on, dont dwell on them nor skratch them off, it can make it harder to see them.

Over all i think this is a very nice first lesson, you still have a long way to go but that is completly normal, this is not an easy course, it is very repetitive so if you dont usually DRAW for fun, you should start, even if the result is not "perfect" (whatever that means to you) you should do it and have FUN, just like when colouring. Remember the 50 50 rule (50% drawing for fun and 50% course work)

    Next Steps:

Move forward with 250 Box challenge, read over the box section carefully and remember the 50 50 rule particularlly for this challenge. Good luck

    Hello Deserthobo,

    The album works fine

    Lines

Superimposed lines are a bit wobbly and some arching as well, also remember to place your pen carefully at the begining of each line https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/1585f266.jpg

Ghosted lines are better, they still wobble but much less and the enfasis on confidance is notisable.

    Elpises

The lines that make up your plane lost the confidance the ghosted lines had, it seems you focused more on accuracy than fluidity. Remember it doesnt matter if you over or under shoot your line as long as you are confident about it. The elipses on the other hand seem pretty confidant, in some of them you do still focus too much on touching the edges and make the elipses look more suare like, avoid this.

Table looks good, remember to ghost your elipses.

Realy like the funnels, you kept the elipses aligned as well as mantaining fluidity on your lines, good job.

    Boxes

Rotated boxes look very nice there is some minor miss alignment on some corners but over all a really good attempt.

Organic perspective is also very nice.

    Conclusion

Over all a really good lesson one, main thing i notices is you tend to sacrifice confidance over accuracy when dealing with solid shapes, like boxes or squares, keep this in mind moving forward and remember that over or undershooting is not an issua and confidance should come fist, accuracy will develop with time.

    Next Steps:

Forward to 250 Box challenge, good luck and dont burn out. Remember 50 50 rule :)

    Hi Zenshii_H,

    Lines

Over all pretty good, some wobblying here and there but thats completly normal, just remember to focus on confidance over accuracy and over time the wobble will disapear.

On planes the focus on accuracy is very noticable, while this makes them look tide over all the lines lack fluidity and confidance, which should ALWAYS be the focus durin this and all the lessons. The idea being that accuracy will develop over time.

    Elipses

Your elipses are clearly focused on accuracy over confidance, this resulst in wobbly lines. While touching the sides of the square (in planes excercise) is important it should be an afterthought, the main takeaway from all this excercises should be confidance in line making. Your funnels are very tidy, you realy aligned your elipses very well.

    Boxes

I like your rotated boxes excercise, while it is a very difficult i can see improvment already on this one attempt. Notice that some boxes arent rotating like in this example https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/d73eea49.jpg

Organic perspective looks good, id recomend adding more size variety in the future and keep in mind that lineweight should be added with the ghosting method and as carefully and CONFIDANTLY as you would any other line.

    Next Steps:

250 Box Challenga awaits you, keep calm and dont burn out.

    Hi again,

Thanks for the advice, yes i think is have issues with lineweight as you pointed out, i will try and keep it to one superimposed line from now on.

On another topic, could i contact you on discord with some unrelated art questions? ive been haveing issues and id like to ask someone for advice.

Anyways, thanks again for the thorough review and ill keep all of this in mind while i tackle lesson 4.

    Hi, Thanks.

That arrows advice seems genius, i will try it out.

i may or may not have already started with lesson 4 demos, but ill slow down and wait for your review.

    Hi Elodin,

Thanks for the great review, it helped me more than you know... i didnt realize how much having your work reviewed helped not only to see mistakes but to feel motivated... so really, thank you :)

Here are the revisions you asked for https://imgur.com/a/u087Kci , i still seem to struggle with arrows, i understand the concept but im not able to both draw confidently and feel the 3D space at the same time. If i slow down i get wobbly but i feel volume better, if i rush it gets flatter but lines work improves (i still try to focus on fluidity even if my volume suffers from it).

    Hello CIMMER1AN,

    Congratz on finishing lesson one!

There seems to be quite a wobble to your superimposed and ghosted lines, remember to focus on confidance, one swift and fluid motion and not on accuracy, if you miss your mark it doesnt matter, focus on a fluid shoulder movement. This issue is shared with your elipses, focus on confidence not accuracy, accuracy will come with time and repetition once the muslces get used to the confident movement.

Your rotated boxes seem to not be rotating, remember as the front angle becomes sharper you should be able to see more of the side plane of the box you are rotating and less of the front plane.

Realy like your organic perspective, but try to add lineweight to the overlaping boxes, this aids with reading.

    Next Steps:

250 Box challenge next. Realy nice lesson one and good luck on following lessons. Remeber 50/50 rule and dont rush your excersices.

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
