Congratulations on completing Lesson 1! I will be providing critique for your Lines, Ellipses and Boxes today.

Thank you for providing high-quality scans of your work, as this makes it easier to review.

    Lines

Superimposed Lines: There is a bit of wobble in your lines. Remember to make smooth, confident marks.

Ghosted Lines: This exercise looks good.

Ghosted Planes: This exercise looks good. You have followed the directions properly and filled up the pages completely with the planes. A few of the lines are still wobbly, but it has improved compared to your first pages.

    Ellipses

Table of Ellipses: This exercise looks good. The ellipses have been placed snugly next to each other in the table.

Ellipses in Planes: A few of the ellipses do not fully reach the edge of the plane, but most of them do not have this issue. On the second page, you have not fully drawn through one of the ellipses.

Funnels: The ellipses should be placed closer to each other, with the edges touching.

    Boxes

Plotted Perspective: This exercise appears to be perfect.

Rough Perspective: This exercise looks good as well. Most of the lines are converging correctly to the vanishing point.

Rotated Boxes: This exercise looks good. You have followed the directions correctly.

Organic Perspective: A lot of the boxes have been drawn with the same orientation. You should try varying their orientation in space more.

Overall, you have done well! Congratulations on completing the lesson. You should move onto the 250 box challenge.

    Next Steps:

    Complete the 250 box challenge.

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

Congratulations on completing Lesson 1! I will be providing critique for your Lines, Ellipses and Boxes today.

    Lines

Superimposed Lines: Your lines were a bit wobbly on the first page, but this improved by the second page.

Ghosted Lines: Again, some of the lines are a little wobbly. Remember to make straight, confident marks.

Ghosted Planes: This exercise looks good.

In this section, your line quality seems to have improved, which is good!

    Ellipses

Table of Ellipses: This exercise looks good. The ellipses have been placed snugly next to each other.

Ellipses in Planes: A few of the ellipses are floating in the center of the plane without touching the sides, but this issue does not exist on most of the ellipses.

Funnels: This exercise looks good. You have also applied some degree to your ellipses.

You have drawn through all of your ellipses twice in this section, which is correct.

    Boxes

Plotted Perspective: In the first and second windows, you have shaded different sides of each box (inconsistent). This step was optional, so you do not need to redo the exercise.

Rough Perspective: On the second page, it appears that some of your width lines are not parallel to the horizon. Remember to take this into account.

Rotated Boxes: This exercise looks good. You have followed the directions correctly.

Organic Perspective: This exercise looks good as well.

Overall, you have done well on this lesson! You are ready to move onto the 250 box challenge.

    Next Steps:

    Complete the 250 box challenge.

Congratulations on completing Lesson 1! I will be providing critique for your Lines, Ellipses and Boxes today.

    Lines

Superimposed Lines: There is a little bit of wobble in some of your lines. Remember to draw smooth, confident lines.

Ghosted Lines: This exercise looks good. Some lines are arching a bit, but this is extremely minor.

Ghosted Planes: You have forgotten to take pictures of your Ghosted Planes before drawing ellipses in them. The planes look good, but you may have spaced them apart a bit too far.

Your lines in this section seem to be mostly straight and confident. Good job!

    Ellipses

Table of Ellipses: This exercise looks good. You have kept your ellipses snugly spaced up against each other.

Ellipses in Planes: This exercise looks good as well.

Funnels: There are some errors here. You have not drawn the sides of some of the funnels to be long enough, and this resulted in some of the ellipses floating in mid-air, not touching the sides of any funnel.

You have correctly drawn through your ellipses twice on all the exercises in this section, which is good!

    Boxes

Plotted Perspective: This exercise looks good. You have shaded the wrong side on some of the boxes (inconsistent), but this step was optional, so you do not need to redo this exercise.

Rough Perspective: It seems that on the first page, you have forgotten to apply correction lines to half of the boxes in the second window. You should go back and complete this part. Also, you have not fully drawn through your boxes on the second page (the back sides are faded), which is incorrect.

Rotated Boxes: You have forgotten to draw the boxes at the ends of the axes. Please read the directions carefully.

Organic Perspective: This exercise looks good, but you have forgotten the second page of it. Please upload this page or complete it if you have not.

Overall, you have done well! Please make the requested corrections before you move onto the next challenge.

    Next Steps:

Correct the Rough Perspective exercise. Complete the second page of Organic Perspective.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Congratulations on completing Lesson 1! I will be providing critique for your Lines, Ellipses and Boxes today.

    Lines

Superimposed Lines: Some of the lines here are arching a bit. You can attempt to correct for this by arching in the opposite direction.

Ghosted Lines: Some of the lines are wobbly. Remember to draw straight, confident lines.

Ghosted Planes: You have forgotten to take pictures of your Ghosted Planes before drawing ellipses in them. Since this is impossible to undo, I will say that the planes still look good and you do not need to redo this exercise. On the second page, you may have drawn some of the planes too large.

    Ellipses

Table of Ellipses: This exercise looks good.

Ellipses in Planes: Some ellipses are not tall enough to reach the edge of the plane.

    Funnels: This exercise looks good.

On all exercises in this section, you have drawn through your ellipses correctly. Good job!

    Boxes

Plotted Perspective: This exercise appears to be nearly perfect, though on the 3rd section, you shaded the bottom side of the box instead of one of the front sides.

Rough Perspective: You have forgotten to apply the line correction method on this exercise - this is important!

Rotated Boxes: You have forgotten to draw the boxes at the end of the axes. Please read the directions carefully.

Organic Perspective: This exercise looks good.

Despite missing a couple of steps, overall, you have done well! You are almost ready to move onto the next challenge.

Please go back and complete your Rough Perspective exercise by drawing the correction lines as stated by the directions.

    Next Steps:

Complete the incomplete Rough Perspective exercise.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Congratulations on completing Lesson 1! I will be providing critique for your Lines, Ellipses and Boxes today.

    Lines

Superimposed lines: Some of your lines are wobbly, and they do not end at the same point. Be more confident when drawing the line, and be mindful of the stopping point. Attempt to end your lines at the endpoint that you have made (before the ghosting step) by lifting the pen once you reach it.

Ghosted lines: Some lines are arching a bit. Also, the same issue with overshooting exists.

Ghosted planes: You forgot to take pictures of your ghosted planes before the ellipses were filled in. Since it is impossible to undo this step, I will say that the planes still look good and you do not need to redo this exercise.

    Ellipses

Table of Ellipses: It seems that you have lifted your pen too early at some points before completing the ellipse, but most of them look good. The spacing is too wide at some points on the first page, but this improved later in the page.

Ellipses in Planes: This exercise looks good.

Funnels: You forgot to draw through the ellipses twice on about half the funnels - this is important!

    Boxes

Plotted Perspective: You have shaded/hatched the boxes incorrectly. Some of them were not done with fineliner (you scribbled on it with a different tool?) and on the ones that are hatched with parallel lines, it seems that you forgot to plot the dots, ghost, and draw straight parallel lines. Since this step was optional, you do not need to redo this exercise, but keep it in mind for future exercises that will require shading.

Rough Perspective: Some of your width and height lines are not parallel or perpendicular to the horizon. This error exists on a few of the boxes.

Rotated Boxes: It seems that you forgot to draw the squares at the ends of the axes. Please read the directions carefully.

Organic Perspective: This exercise looks good.

While you missed a couple of steps during the exercises, overall, you have done well!

Please complete one page of Funnels before you move onto the next challenge.

    Next Steps:

One page of the Funnels exercise. Remember to draw through the ellipses.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

To complete my submission, I have attached 2 previously missing pages of Ellipses in Planes, as well as the requested third extra page.

Thank you for the detailed feedback! I will keep it in mind as I continue.

How to Draw by Scott Robertson

When it comes to technical drawing, there's no one better than Scott Robertson. I regularly use this book as a reference when eyeballing my perspective just won't cut it anymore. Need to figure out exactly how to rotate an object in 3D space? How to project a shape in perspective? Look no further.
