Thank you for the critique! I can definitely see what you mean with the boxes. Being completely honest, some of them were rushed. I'll take my time when doing the 250 boxes.

    Thanks again!

Straight lines are surprisingly tricky, I agree.

    As for the exercises:

    Superimposed lines:

Well done. There isn't too much wobbling. Do try to start them at the same point each time. There is fraying at both the beginning and the end of the lines.

    Ghosted lines:

Good job. There is some minor wobbling and a some arching, but overall your lines are pretty confident. Don't be afraid to over or undershoot with this one. Confidence is most important.

    Ghosted planes + ellipses:

Good lines. Not a lot a wobbling, though there is a bit of arching in them. The ellipses look good. Make sure to keep them elliptical, even if it means they don't fit in the box as nicely.

    Table of ellipses:

There is some wobbling in the ellipses. Prioritize confidence over accuracy. You also have a tendency to place them too closely together and overshoot a bit on the edges.

    Funnels:

Pretty much the same critique here as with the table of ellipses.

    Plotted perspective:

Well done, they look good and neat. Don't have much to critique.

    Rough perspective:

Well done on this one as well. I don't have much to critique, other than them not hitting the mark, which is to be expected.

    Organic perspective:

I guess you're pretty good at drawing boxes because they look good. Well done. Some are off, but that's to be expected.

    Rotated boxes:

Nicely done. I would have added another box in the very corner of the circle of boxes but other than that, nothing to note. Other than it looks good, of course. It does seem like the perspective is a bit off where you drew through the boxes though. They don't seem to rotate as much.

Overall, well done and congrats on finishing them all!

    Next Steps:

Continue with the 250 boxes challenge, as is recommended.

There are 2 major problems I need to point out. First, you have a major tendency to go over boxes more than once. When ghosting lines, you only draw the line once. If you mess up, that's kinda the point. It's about getting an idea of where you're at. Second, you didn't do the rough perspective exercise correctly. You're supposed to draw where the lines of the boxes are converging to, not to the VP. This will tell you how far off you were far better than drawing the line to the VP will.

Other than that, you did the rest of the exercises well. The superimposed lines could have been done more neatly. Make sure to start at the same point every time. Fraying at the end is to be expected but try to limit it at the beginning of the point. There is a bit of wobbling in your ghosted lines but not too much. There is definitely some arching though.

When it comes to the ellipses, make sure to keep them elliptical, rather than egg-shaped. Also make sure to draw them twice instead of once. You have a slight tendency to overlap them, so be wary of that. Your funnels look good. Make sure to keep the ellipses on the same minor axis. Other than that, they're pretty neat.

You did the plotted perspective well but it would have been nice if you made the boxes a bit more clear. It's hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. I already mentioned my main critiques for the boxes in the beginning, and don't have a great deal more to add.

Good job on finishing the exercises! I'd suggest redoing the rough perspective, as you didn't complete it as intended.

    Next Steps:

Redo the rough perspective exercise. Make sure to watch the video and read the instructions carefully.

I agree! Another tip for the rotated boxes is to base all the boxes you draw on the boxes surrounding it. Keeping them closer to each other will help you to end up with a more circular shape.

Another small thing I can add to this is not to redraw ghosted lines. It's not about making it look good but about getting a good idea of where you're at. Other than that, I agree with the critique.

Keep going and I'm sure you'll get better! :)

    It uploaded correctly!

Your superimposed lines are good! They seem pretty steady and confident. The only thing is that they do fray quite a bit at the end but that's OK. The ghosted lines are a bit wobbly. Don't be afraid to overshoot or undershoot for this one. The most important thing is confident lines. Same thing with the ghosted planes.

For the ellipses in the funnels and the tables of ellipses, try to keep them on the same axis and also elliptical. Some are a bit egg-shaped. Make sure to go around them twice. No more and no less. You do have a tendency to make them overlap. Remember that they should fit snuggly, but not overlap.

When it comes to the boxes, it's recommended to draw the plotted perspective exercise in frames (so 3 per page). Other than that, it looks pretty neath. Try not to redraw a line when you're ghosting. I know it's tempting, but it's messy and usually doesn't make it better.

Don't be afraid to exaggerate the perspective on the boxes if you need to. The rotated boxes look pretty good but the organic perspective, like you mentioned, is your weakest. Overall, however, they do look organic. You didn't draw the box the exact same way every time. You experimented a bit which is good (at least in my opinion). The only comment I have is that you could have drawn a bit more boxes on each page, especially the last one. Other than that, I don't think you need to redo them. You got the point of the exercise, which is to rotate the boxes in space.

Hope this helps! Congrats on completing all of the exercises :)

Your lines are good! I can't see a lot of wobbling in your lines. There is some arching in the ghosted lines, but not a lot. Try to start at the same point when doing the superimposed lines. There's a bit of fraying at both ends. Your ellipses are good, but a few are slightly egg-shaped. When drawing the table of ellipses and the funnels, remember to keep the ellipses on the same axis. Also, remember to space them correctly. You seem to have a tendency to space them too far apart. They need to fit snuggly without overlapping. Overall they're well done though.

When it comes to the boxes, you occasionally draw two ghosted lines instead of one. I totally get wanting to redraw a line to make it better, but try not to do it. The plotted lines exercise is done well. You hit the mark for most of them though you could be a bit more precise. For the most part it's good though! For the rough perspective you do miss the mark often, though that is to be expected. Don't be afraid to make the perspective more exaggerated the further the box is removed from the VP. That's actually my critique for all of them. Don't be afraid to exaggerate the boxes where it's needed. I can see the same thing in the rotated boxes. It's slightly more square than it should be, especially on the right side of the circle and the far corners.

Other than that, I like the variety of paths you chose in the organic perspective exercise. The main critique I have for this one is to switch up the angle of the boxes a bit more. It feels a bit static sometimes.

Good job completing them all! I'd recommend completing the 250 boxes challenge after this one, as is recommended.

    Next Steps:

Complete the 250 boxes challenge before moving on to lesson 2, as is recommended.

Drawabox-Tested Fineliners (Pack of 10, $17.50 USD)

Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.

Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.

These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.

We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.

Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
