    Hi Vensuvuis,

here to provide you with some feedback regarding your lesson 1 exercises. :)

    Lines

Your lines show some fraying, particularly towards the end. That’s normal but I advice you to spend some additional time on time, cause you will need a lot of lines throughout the course.

The straight lines also tend to arch, experiment with rotating your paper, maybe you find a position that helps you getting them straight.

    Planes

Within the planes, please strike your lines until they hit another line. A few of them end without converging to a point :)

    Ellipses

A couple of your Ellipses could have been drawn for another turn, looks like you just did one round in that sense. More particular in the section of ellipses in planes.

Happy to see how you experimented with the sizes of the ellipses on the other sheet. Well done.

    Funnels

A lot of them share the same width - remember that the idea was to basically create a tube that has his furthest point in the middle while the end are closer to you. Therefore the elipses would become more like circles to the end.

Kindly recommend you to watch that lesson again and internalize it.

Your funnels could have started more narrow, allowing you to add more variations of ellipses while increasing their angle.

    Plotted perspective

Clean look and well executed! Something for the future: add some line weight to illustrate how the boxes are positioned among each other in space.

    Rough perspective

I’m missing some variation here, a lot of your boxes share the same initial footprint.

Consider that within this exercise the back and front of your box share the same proportions which can be of help.

    Rotated box

Overall great outcome. On the bottom right one box seems to not connect. As in their edges don’t connect to a corner.

A few lines look wobbly. Yet, you will draw way more in the next lessons.

    Organic perspective

Line weight would have helped to get a better sense which box is more in the foreground than others. Your hatching looks rushed on a few too. Remember: even hatching implies ghosting ;)

Your progress was certainly tangible to me, and yet I kindly ask you to spend a bit of time on a revision of the following:

    • Ellipses in Planes (Ellipses drawn 2-3 times at least, planes with converging edges)

    • Funnels (1-2 are enough but try to start very narrowly while expanding them towards the end - feel free to exaggerate here even) https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/funnels

    • Rough perspective (please experiment with the starting plane of your box: make them tall and narrow or short and wide)

Those are primarily aimed to validate your understanding, it's not about expecting perfect results. Just pushing you a bit further :) Plus, it will further equip you with what it takes to get onto the next part of the course!

In addition, don’t forget to spend some time on the 50% rule - https://drawabox.com/lesson/0/2/50percent

Finding a mix and exposing yourself to drawing freely, will help you along the way!

    Next Steps:

I kindly ask you to get back with a single sheet divided in three section in which you incorporate the following revisions:

    • 1 section ellipses in Planes (Ellipses drawn 2-3 times at least, planes with converging edges)

    • 1Funnels (1-2 are enough but try to start very narrowly while expanding them towards the end - feel free to exaggerate here even) https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/funnels

    • 1Rough perspective (please experiment with the starting plane of your box: make them tall and narrow or short and wide)

If you feel like that's too much for one single piece of paper, feel free to do them across multiple :)

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

    Hi Learner004,

happy to get back to you with some feedback regarding your lesson 1 work. Ready for it? ;)

    Lines

Overall, great accuracy. I noticed a slight tendency of arching. Experiment with changing your grip, or rotating the page :)

A bit of fraying towards the end, but negligible

    Ellipses

The majority of your ellipses could have been drawn for another turn, as that helps training the muscle memory to draw them confidently.

Your spacing is great, they all fit nicely within their respective spaces.

    Funnels

Your funnels could have started more narrow, allowing you to add more variations of ellipses while increasing their angle.

A lot of them share the same width - remember that the idea was to basically create a tube that has his furthest point in the middle while the end are closer to you. Therefore the elipses would become more like circles to the end.

    Plotted perspective

A recommendation for the future would be to use line weight to highlight how the boxes are positioned among each other.

    All in all, well done!

    Rough perspective

Again: Great how they converge into the same direction. Looks like your ghosting is already paying off.

    Rotated box

Awesome outcome! :) Great to see your hatching and that you also added boxes on the furthest edges - those get sometimes forgotten.

    Organic perspective

Not much to add than: well done. A bit of line weight could be helpful, but this is more a nice-to-have. Cool how you experimented with their sizes to reflect how close they are to the viewer.

To sum it up - you did great and you’re more than equipped to take on the next challenge: 250 Boxes ;)

Don’t forget to spend some time on the 50% rule - https://drawabox.com/lesson/0/2/50percent

    Next Steps:

Congrats. Buckle up: time for 250 boxes! :D

    Hi Valenmakesart,

here to give you some feedback regarding your lesson 1 homework. Ready for it? ;)

    Lines

Good start: great accuracy at the beginning of your lines while there's just a little amount of fraying towards the end. I’m confident that you will decrease that even further throughout the course!

    Ellipses

A few of your ellipses in planes look wobbly. I’m guessing that you were trying your best to fit them into the planes.

Keep working on your ghosting method and count on your confidence :) they will automatically fit at one point due to your unconscious planning.

    Funnels

Your funnels could have started more narrow, allowing you to add more variations of ellipses while increasing their angle.

Additionally, a few of them were not cut in half by the minor axis, watch out for that over the course of the next lessons.

    Plotted perspective

Enjoyed your work here. Great accuracy and clean look. A recommendation for the future would be to use line weight to highlight how the boxes are positioned among each other.

    Rough perspective

Again: Great how they converge into the same direction. Looks like your ghosting is already paying off.

    Rotated box

Great result. You missed a bit of hatching on the far left ;) but don’t bother. Cool that your accomplished adding those boxes at the far end of the rotation.

    Organic perspective

Not much to add than: well done. A bit of line weight could be helpful, but this is more a nice-to-have.

In summary, you showed great progress - keep that up with your next lessons!

Don’t forget to spend some time on the 50% rule - https://drawabox.com/lesson/0/2/50percent

    Next Steps:

    ????????????

Happy to share that you shall move one to the next step in the course: The 250 Box Challenge

    Have fun!

    Hi Thrabchak,

here to give you some feedback regarding your lesson 1 homework :)

    Some clarification before my critique:

*Normally, it’s not intended to continue with the box challenge without previous critique of lesson 1. That’s why I won’t critique those.

Next time, invest your spare time into the 50% rule as explained here: https://drawabox.com/lesson/0/2/50percent*

    Lines

Your lines arch and bend a bit. Internalize to draw lines from your shoulder. You can also experiment with rotating your sheet. Yet, they will improve with practice.

Great accuracy at the start of your lines, a bit of fraying towards the end. Good work.

    Ellipses

Some of your ellipses look rushed as in you could have drawn them through another round and go beyond the expected frame.

Make use of the ghosting method to stay within your frame.

    Funnels

A few of them were not cut in half by the minor axis, watch out for that over the course of the next lessons.

Additionally, your funnels could have started more narrow, allowing you to add more variations of ellipses while increasing their angle.

    Plotted perspective

Enjoyed your work here. Great accuracy and clean look. A recommendation for the future would be to use line weight to highlight how the boxes are positioned among each other.

    Rough perspective

A few of your lines look rushed, take your time and plan them properly. A few of them a wobbly which could result from missing confidence.

Invest into your ghosting method to keep them improving.

Great how they converge into the same direction.

    Rotated box

Great result. Again, line weight and/or some hatching would amplify your work. Just to give you some ideas on how to improve.

    Organic perspective

Some of your lines look like you drew them more than once - a tendency to correct is normal. To combat it, invest into your ghosting (again).

In summary, you showed great progress - keep that up with your next lessons!

    Next Steps:

Congrats - time for challenge ;)

    Hi Jerry,

here to provide you with some feedback on your lesson 1 homework!

    Lines

Your lines show confidence and mostly straight.

I see a subtle tendency to arching, explore rotating the sheet and training your line work from your shoulder. Chances are high you can mitigate that over time.

You lines show little amount of fraying, yet, take your time to hit the starting point of your lines to minimize it further.

    Ellipses

A few of your ellipses could benefit from drawing them another round.

It’s great to see how you kept them all tight within their designated spaces!

    Funnels

Explore adding more ellipses to them in the future, gradually increasing their angles.

A few of them were not cut in half by the minor axis, watch out for that over the course of the next lessons.

    Plotted perspective

Your sheet with the plotted perspective look great. A recommendation would be to use line weight to highlight how they are positioned among each other.

    Rough perspective

Great how they converge into the same direction. A few of your lines look rushed, take your time and plan them properly.

    Rotated box

Great result. Looking closely, you will notice that you missed a few boxes on the further edge of 3 sides (top right, bottom left & right). Yet, nothing to worry about, you will draw more of them shortly ;)

    Organic perspective

Enjoyed your work. Remember to use ghosting for your hatching too.

In summary, you made great progress over the course of the lessons and homework.

Wish you great success with your next steps!

    Next Steps:

Time for your next step: 250 Box Challenge ;)

    Hi Adley, appreciate your feedback.

Ellipses we're tough for me. Doing them within 2 rounds often ended in them being not circular enough, whereas 3+ helped me shaping them. Yet, will keep doing them as warm-ups.

Thanks for the input about line weight, will incorporate that too :)

    Cheers
