Hello, OCTOLINGSGARDEN! Congratulations on the completion of Lesson 1! I've looked through your assignment and here are some notes that might be helpful to you:

Superimposed Lines, Ghosted Lines and Ghosted Planes: Splendid work on these ones! Your lines are smooth, confident and have good accuracy. There are only two or three overshooting lines and several lines that aren't quite connected to form a closed plane in the "Ghosted Planes" exercise.

Eclipses in Planes, Tables of Eclipses, Funnels: Most of your eclipses are rounded, smooth and nicely-drawn. Several eclipses in the "Eclipses in Planes" exercise don't really touch all 4 sides of their planes. There are also some eclipses that aren't aligned well with the others in the "Funnels" exercise (especially in the funnel at the bottom right corner of page '08 Funnel 1a')

Plotted Perspective, Rough Perspective: The boxes are nicely-drawn in both exercises. In "Rough Perspective" exercise, there are some lines in that exercise are quite wobbly and slightly arched, I've noticed you haven't extended two boxes in the top panel's (on the second page of this assignment) lengh lines to the vanishing point.

Rotated Boxes: The alignment of most of the boxes are quite accurate and nice, except for the top right corner. I've also noticed some of the boxes in the two bottom rows aren't quite rotating. This is the hardest exercise of lesson 1, so don't put too much pressure on yourself because of this one, and thank you for completing this exercise in one go instead of starting over.

Organic Perspective: The only problem I've noticed is the three boxes at the front of the middle panel on the first page of this exercise, it is hard to tell which box is at front, which box is at the back.

    Next Steps:

Your work is great and very well-done! Before starting a lesson/challenge/assignment, you should spend 10-15 minutes for warm-up, redrawing any exercise from Lesson 1 would help you improve your accuracy, stroke confidence and line smoothness (I think you should put more emphasis on "Eclipses in Planes" exercise) Be sure to complete the 250 Box Challenge (it would improve your understanding of perspective a lot) before moving on to Lesson 2, if you haven't already.

Hi there, ADDY2000! First off, congratulations for completing Lesson 1! I've looked through your homework and here are some notes that might be able to help you:

Superimposed Lines, Ghosted Lines, Ghosted Planes: I have nothing to say here, all of your lines are confident, smooth, especially in the "Ghosted Lines" and "Ghosted Planes" exercises, the accuracy is just outstanding!

Tables of Eclipses, Eclipses in Planes, Funnels: Excellent work on these ones. All of the eclipses are rounded and smooth, there are only one or two eclipses that slightly overlap each other, and some of the eclipses in the "Eclipses in Planes" exercise are quite bumpy.

Plotted Perspective, Rough Perspective, Rotated Boxes, Organic Perspective: Your boxes are great, although in the "Rough Perspective" exercise, some of the lines are quite wobbly.

    Next Steps:

Your work is just so beautiful! Before starting a lesson/challenge/assignment, you should spend 10-15 minutes for warm-up, redrawing any exercise from Lesson 1 would help you improve your accuracy, stroke confidence and line smoothness. Be sure to complete the 250 Box Challenge before moving on to Lesson 2, if you haven't already.

Hi there, ANDREW_SAPINSKI, critiques can be quite... erm... "scary", but they help us improve and progress, and please don't stress out too much, your work is fantastic! Here are some notes that might be helpful to you:

Superimposed Lines: Like I've said, fantastic work! Great line confidence and smoothness, fairly-good accuracy.

Ghosted Lines and Ghosted Planes: Most of your lines are smooth and straight, although there are some lines that are quite arched and wobbly.

Eclipses in Planes, Tables of Eclipses and Funnels: The eclipses are rounded and all of them are drawn through two or three times, your work is very well-done! (Of course, there are some eclipses that are just slightly-distorted and out of bounds, but these can be improved over time.)

Plotted Perspective: 11 out of ten!

Rough Perspective: Some of the boxes are quite slanted/distorted and there are some wobbly and arched lines.

Rotated Boxes: Your boxes have great alignment and they and fairly-good rotation; however, the rows do not align with each other well, and some boxes at the corners of some rows don't rotate correctly, so they look quite "out of line". (As this one is hardest exercise of Lesson 1, don't put too much pressure on yourself about this)

Organic Perspective: In some panels, the boxes at the very front seem smaller than the boxes behind them; hence, it would be quite difficult to know which box is closer to the viewers, which is further.

    Next Steps:

Probably by the time you're reading this, you've already moved on to the 250 Box Challenge and Lesson 2, but if not, make sure to complete the challenge before jumping into Lesson 2. Also, before you start a new assignment/challenge, you should spend 10-15 minutes to draw any exercise from Lesson 1 again to improve your accuracy, stroke confidence and line smoothness.

If you have time, you can give feedbacks to other students' works, here is the critique guide for Lesson 1: https://pastebin.com/dYnFt9PQ. Keep going and never stop trying!

Hi there, BODACIOUSSS, there's only one picture in your homework file, can you upload the rest of your homework assignments to the file to receive community's feedbacks?

Hi there, IKARIARAUJO! I've looked through your assignments and these are some notes that might be helpful to you:

Superimposed Lines: Smooth lines, great stroke confidence, good accuracy, 11 out of 10!

Ghosted Lines: Almost all of your lines are straight and confident, I've only noticed a few of arched lines in your work, so great work!

Ghosted Planes: Your work on this one is simply amazing, but there are still some lines that are quite wobbly and arched.

Tables of Eclipses: Most of your eclipses are rounded and smooth, there are two or three slightly-distorted eclipses but don't stress yourself about this too much. However, about the "eclipse flower" at the bottom left corner on the second page: the eclipses are beautiful, but they are overlapping each other, and this should be avoided (because overlapping eclipses show that you don't have a concrete goal for what you're drawing.)

Eclipses in Planes: Like I've said in the "Tables of Eclipses" exercise, smooth and well-drawn eclipses, only a few of them are slightly-distorted.

Funnels: I have nothing to say here, your work is 'mwoah' beautiful!

Plotted Perspective: 11 out of ten!

Rough Perspective: A lot of your boxes are quite slanted/distorted, especially the height lines of the boxes. The height lines should be perpendicular to horizon and the width line should be parallel to horizon. If your length lines (the lines you have to use the ghosting method with) don't turn out well, let them be, don't try to connect them (that will break the rule I've mentioned earlier and make the boxes look weird.)

Rotated Boxes: Most of your boxes in this assignment look well-done, with great alignment, except for the box that you've pointed out. Another thing is: the boxes at the far end on the left side are quite long compared to the others, as well as the middle box on the top row (these are just observations, don't put too much pressure on yourself because of these, alright?)

    Organic Perspective: Beautiful work, mwoah!

    Next Steps:

Your assignments are amazing and very well-drawn! Probably by the time you're reading this, you've moved on to the 250 Box Challenge and Lesson 2, but if you haven't, then be sure to complete the 250 Box Challenge before jumping into Lesson 2. Also, before starting the challenge/a new exercise, I think you should spend from 10 to 15 minutes to draw any exercise from Lesson 1 again, to improve your accuracy, your stroke confidence and line smoothness. Keep going and never stop trying!

Hi there, TEHPROTROLLBOI, thank you for your insightful comments! It would certainly help me and others a lot! I've looked through your work and here are some notes that might be able to help you:

Superimposed Lines: I love your stroke confidence and how smooth your lines are, 1000/10 from me!

Ghosted Lines and Ghosted Planes: You've done a great job on this one, smooth and confident lines, great accuracy. 'Mwoah' the beauty.

Eclipses in Planes: Most of your eclipses are smooth, rounded, I've only spotted two or three distorted eclipses, so your work on this one is also a 1000 out of 10.

Tables of Eclipses: I am falling in love with all of your eclipses, they are, honestly, a work of art! However, I've noticed several of your eclipses are missing some lines, and a few of them are unfinished (if this is caused by your pen, I think either there's something wrong with the ink tube, or the pen is almost out of ink. If not, try to finish eclipses even if you know they won't turn out well, it's part of the learning process, after all).

Plotted Perspective: Again, excellent work on this one!

Funnels: Most of your eclipses are nice, rounded and smooth, some of them are out of bounds (especially the ones in the near-center funnel); and also, the "outer" eclipses of some funnels are quite loosely-drawn compared to the "inner" eclipses.

Rough Perspective: The boxes are well-drawn, with smooth and confident lines. The only important thing here is you shouldn't repeat your lines/make your lines thicker, because that means you are hiding your mistakes. If a line doesn't look good, ignore it and move on. Furthermore, repeating lines/thickening lines tend to make those lines wobbly; hence, your lines would show no confidence or smoothness. (However, thickening your lines is acceptable when you want to show to the viewers which side of a box is facing them/visible)

Rotated Boxes and Organic Perspective: I have no comments on this one, your work is astounding!

    Next Steps:

In general, your assignments are well-done! Probably by the time you're reading this, you've already moved on to the 250 Box Challenge and Lesson 2, if not, then be sure to complete the 250 Box Challenge before jumping into Lesson 2. Also, before starting new lesson/challenge, you should spend 10-15 minutes to draw any exercise from Lesson 1 again to improve accuracy, stroke confidence and line smoothness. Keep going and never stop trying!

Sakura Pigma Microns

Sakura Pigma Microns

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
