Seeing the extremity of the current situation, I would recommend advancing with the ballpoint pen, the 250 box challenge will certainly take time and hopefully this pandemic will be resolved by then.

Advancing will allow you to explore new concepts and further develop your spacial awareness, and you should go back to the tasks you did with a ballpoint pen when you make the upgrade to the fineliner and do even 30% of the required work, just get the feel and fully get the experience of these exercises

Greeting Bobo and welcome aboard to this amazing journey,

Overall your performance in these exercises has shown remarkable improvement and I believe you have held a good gasp of the concepts provided in the first lesson, That being said I do have a couple of things to point out:

    1. Your lines vary from extremely good to weird and wobbly, I believe the reason is that you are letting your anxiety of obtaining a good result get in the way, draw your lines with confidence and don't be afraid of failure, because it is showing you where you need to focus to further improve. Identify your lines, try to visualise it before drawing it, ghost it then execute a confident stroke, when that is done observe your line objectively and identify your mistakes then move on to the next.

    2. It is best to use your shoulder to draw even small marks to get a consistent line, as I have observed in your organic perspective exercise, you tend to use your wrist for the smaller boxes

Adding to all of these, your ellipses demonstrate consistency which is fascinating.

I would strongly recommend implementing daily warm-up session containing these exercises, you can refer to this video to learn more about this subject The subject of grinding and warm-up

Congratulations on completing your first lesson and good luck with your boxes

    You did good overall Ayami.

    Things to point out:

    1. The superimposed lines exercise, make sure your first line is done with a ruler so that you can accurately mimic the flow.

    2. Focus more on the ghosting method for your lines as they look a bit wobbly, I recommend that you implement a warm-up session moving on including Lesson 1 basic exercises as it will help you refine those skills

Other than that, you have grasped most of the core concepts of the first lesson.

    Hi there,

I believe that you have done well and you can move on, yet you have to focus more on your line confidence, I recommend doing a 15 minutes warm-up prior to each session to get your muscle memory flowing.

    Good day,

I can see that you have devoloped a good understanding of space here, which is a major concept covered in lesson 1.

There is an important lesson to be learned from lesson 0 and lesson 1 is that the concept of "homework" is not meant to be fun, it is meant to purely focus on your technical abilities, and although that can be tiring, you should not alter with the content nor with the number of pages required per homework.

These excercises are there to help you work on your technical skills and purely on that, I would highly recommend applying the 50% rule as this will help you understand the importance of both discipline and creativity.

    Next Steps:

    • Redo the lines homework

    • complete the rotated boxes and organic perspective assignment

    • devolop a short 15 minutes warm-up session that includes excercises focusing on points you struggle with

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hia, hope you are having a good day.

I can see that you have developed a nice understanding of 3d space, which is really the core of lesson 1, try to work more on the confidence of your lines, you can achieve that by simply warming up prior to each session as uncomfortable recommended in his video, [Drawabox Lesson 0: On the Subject of Grinding and Warmups

What i would recommend is focusing more on the superimposed lines and ghosted lines excercises in your first couple of warmup sessions.

Have fun with the 250 boxes, it is absolutely delightful.

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
