Hello, I've also recently finished my first lesson here. Now I am to critique your work as drawabox recommend I do that. If you could also review my work that'd be great! https://drawabox.com/community/submission/WUGDDX26

I've read your text on your homework. It's good to be aware of your mistakes. Honestly though, I think you need to follow the instructions more strictly. Even in your last exercise I can see wobbly lines and that means you focus too much on accuracy, more so than fluid lines. If you hadn't done this already; also make sure to rotate your page so you can draw each line from a comfortable angle. Don't be lazy on that. You must speed up drawing a line a little in order to get that fluid/smooth line. It's not necessary to go slow so that you could make an accurately straight line, it made your lines wobbly. Also; the ellipses on the planes are deformed. Remember that maintaining a smooth elliptical shape is critical and above all else your first priority. Don't correct your mistakes, let it be. Just do your best at your next go. Your biggest focus right now is to be fearless!

    Kind regards,

I suggest you do one page of ghosted planes with ellipses in them and follow my advice. Ghost your lines/shapes max 3 times and execute with confidence. If you've made a mistake, let it be and move onto the next one. That and also do another page of ghosted lines. The focus here should be to draw with confidence and not correct your mistakes! That's a very important lesson we are learning here on drawabox and that's why I think it's good to follow that rule whilst redoing those 2 exercises.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

My critique for you is that you seem to have followed the instructions well on most of the exercises. Your ellipses are sometimes corrected. It's better to prepare by ghosting the ellipses max 3 times and then executing them with confidence, leaving it as it is. Then afterwards you can see your mistakes clearly. Just try to make a smooth ellips and if you've failed to do that move onto the next one. You've executed your rotated boxes pretty well I think, although the boxes could've been a bit bigger, going more towards the 4 boxes on the outside. Other than that I don't have much to say: just keep up the work!

My critique for you is that you could've filled your page with more lines. It wouldn't be bad to have had more variation in your planes but nevertheless they are well executed. The ellipses in them have been corrected more times that you should've have. Remember to not aim for accuracy, prepare your lines/ellips by ghosting max 3 times and then confidently executing them. On the rotated boxes exercise: you haven't followed all of the instructions. You could've based your lines more off of the lines you had already drawn before(I'm looking at the box on the right top corner). You seem to also leave a lot of space between them. The deeper the boxes are the less space they have between each box. I also don't understand why there aren't any of the 4 boxes that you should've drawn first? Please make sure you follow the instructions. Other than that I think you did manage to make it seem like a globe. Mine didn't look like a globe at all and yours is closer to a globe. Of course there's room for improvement but I say good job.

    Kind regards,

Good linework. I see some corrections on your ellipses here and there, try not to do that so that you can clearly see your mistakes afterwards. Remember to not go for accuracy but a smooth fluid line/ellips/etc. Your planes are pretty good, you often hit the mark. The ellipses in them are a little deformed. On the rotated boxes exercise: it looks you've really taken the time you needed on that exercise, it's very neatly done! Keep it the work!

After looking at your work I believe you've done a pretty good job, you seem to have followed the instructions pretty well. Most linework you draw I see you've prepared it (ghosted) as well as you could and then drew with confidence. You haven't been correcting your lines too much, good job on that. Some lines could be a little bit more straight, remember to always rotate your page and then draw from a comfortable angle. Your rotated boxes could've been bigger but other than that I'd say you've succesfully completed lesson 1!

Hello, I've also completed my first lesson. I will now critique your homework, if you could do the same thing for me, that's be great! https://drawabox.com/community/submission/WUGDDX26

My critique for you is that you started out great. Your lines are well prepared, I can see how they're starting point is pretty much the same. Maybe you could've thrown in some longer lines that cover the entire page. The ellipses in planes are a little messy. I suggest you ghost the ellips max 3 times and then confidently go for drawing it, without correcting yourself. If you draw only once you will be able to better see where you've gone wrong. Remeber that maintaining a smooth elliptical shape is critical and above all else your first priority.

I like that you've on the rough perspective exercise you've managed to only draw on line and go from there. That show your improvement on that. As for the organic boxes, you could make the lines of the boxes that are closer a little thicker just to make it easier for the viewer to see what's close and what's further away. I noticed you've also used a more extreme foreshortening there. Drawabox tells you not to do that. Use extreme foreshortening sparingly.

Other than that congrats on finishing lesson 1, keep it up!

    Kind regards,

    Delphine

My critique for you is that you mustn't correct your ellipses or lines all too much. Ghost them max 3 times and then go for it confidently as the instructions of drawabox suggest. I can see also see how you've tried to correct your lines by the sometimes thick lines in your work. A thick line leaves room for suggestion and it doesn't accurately let you see your own mistakes. Leave the mistakes you make as they are and move on. Don't forget that you have to 1. prepare(ghosting, etc) and then 2. execute with confidence. The ellipses on your planes are also deformed. Remember that maintaining a smooth elliptical shape is critical and above all else your first priority. The rotated boxes exercise; you've executed that one pretty well. I don't understand why you've only drawn a box on the left and right and not above and under. Lines are also too thick there but still: it's a pretty well executed exercise. Keep it up!

    Kind regards,

    Delphine

Your lines started out okay. Some lines aren't fully straight. Make sure you rotate the page to draw your line at a comfortable angle. I also suggest to not correct your ellipses. Right now I can't fully see your mistakes. I do think your ellipses are drawn next to eachother, you didn't leave to much space in between them, that's good. The ellipses in planes are a little deformed. Maintaining a smooth elliptical shape is critical and above all else your first priority. Remember that.

For the rotated boxes exercise, you've not managed to use the full page. Drawing small will always be easier and doesn't challenge as much as drawing bigger would. We are using a printer paper format, in art classes they often go way bigger. So please keep in mind that this paper format isn't all that big and it's a good format to practice on, use your space to the fullest.

As for the organic boxes, the last page with the boxes going smaller and then bigger again. I'd not have done that on that line as it goes down and suggest the line doesn't go to far away in distance. Other than that, nice job, keep it up!

    Kind regards,

    Delphine

I believe you've done the exercises to the best of your capability and followed the instructions correctly. The only page that confused me was your last organic boxes. The biggest boxes are in the middle so the should be the nearest to the viewer's eye, yet the lines on the left and right almost go straight and if they are smaller they should go up more. So they'd have more perspective. Other than that I must say you've managed to draw your lines with confidence and haven't correcting your shapes too much, which is a good thing. Keep it up!

I'd suggest you not correct your ellipses too much, ghost them max 3 times and leave the first ellips as it is. Correcting your ellips will not help you learn to draw a better ellips from the first go. On the rotated box exercise you've forgotten to draw 4 box on the corners, to complete the globe. I believe you've done the rest of the exercises to the best of your capability. Keep it up!
