Hey Bowtiebuck, I'm here to critique your assignment.

Lineweight: I didn't notice any extra lineweight on the silhouette of your boxes. As far as it isn't compulsory it helps to show the form in 3D space and is adviced for warmups going forward.

    Extended lines and foreshortening:

You extended all lines correctly throughout the exercise and I like how you experimented with foreshortening both dramatic and the normal. However for a few boxes I noticed some wrong perspectives like those of boxes 14 and 62, to be on a safe side it's advised to draw the boxes in three point perspective only and not let vertical lines be completely perpendicular to the horizon line. I'm not going to request revisions for this as I feel it's something warmups can fix, only keep in mind that your Y's should have three angles all greater than 90°s.

    Hatching:

You didn't hatch any of the boxes and again as much as it is not compulsory it's also advised to show the side facing the viewer.

I think that's all to be said only review the lesson notes and include these in your warmups. I think you've grasped the basics of three point perspective so I'm marking this lesson as complete

    Next Steps:

    Move on to lesson 2

Hey ravt, I'm seeing only one page of boxes specifically no. 1-6. Is that an error or?

Anyway I'm requesting revisions on the assignment after which you'll upload the remaining pages to imgur.

    Please do so on time.

    Next Steps:

Upload the remaining pages of boxes

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

    Hi Egusisoup (with eba),

I'm here to critique your 250 box challenge.

HATCHING: This step is done to indicate what side is facing the viewer and it seems like the first page was a poor attempt as the first two boxes had hatching behind the center Y. This isn't a compulsory step but if you must do it then do it right. I'm not sure you ghosted those hatching lines and that I tell you was a waste if mileage to practice the ghosting technique which is quite unfortunate. Another thing I noticed was that the hatch lines didn't extend fully to the edges of your boxes and looked hasty and unplanned.

EXTENDED LINES: You performed quite well here and all your lines extended away from the Y. This step is helpful for self evaluation and shows what to watch out for in the next pages. I'm unsure if the lines served that purpose for you as most boxes had recurring mistakes, but have no fear we're going to consider those as mere beginners' error. You'll improve with warmups.

LINEWEIGHT AND FORESHORTENING: I noticed extra lineweight on silhouettes of some boxes, that's fine. As for rapid foreshortening you paid attention to that through out the exercise except perhaps, boxes 11-20.

You tried your best in this exercise and I'm sure you'll improve with time only practice more often and limit a page of boxes to only 4. Thanks for completing the said revisions I think you performed well on those. Hence I'm marking this lesson as complete

    Next Steps:

Complete 2 pages of revisions containing 4 boxes each and follow the above instructions.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

    Hi, Teh_stamper.

Congrats on completing this challenge you've done noble.

Well, I reviewed the boxes and I must say you put in alot of effort. Anyways, here are specific points I'll like to bring to your attention

    1. Lineweight:

This is meant to be used on the silhouette of the boxes and to show the 3D form of the box on 2D paper you tried well in this aspect, however a few boxes were superimposed on all lines not just the silhouette, an example is box no. 87

    2 Extended lines and convergence:

This exercise dealt with boxes in 3 point perspective. To Cross check our work personally we are required to extend the 3 sets of lines away from the viewer and for this you did it well on about 249 boxes. I also noticed complete convergence on some sets of lines like box no. 3 on the LHS specifically

I'll advise that you include this in your warmups going forward and try to improve the convergence. This can be done by drawing a line while still considering the other 3 in it's set and imagining a VP on the page.

I must also include that you tried to apply rapid foreshortening which is well commended.

I appreciate the hatching on your boxes, hope you ghosted those lines too.

This exercise was tough but you're tougher you just had an opportunity to ghost lines over 3000 times.

Well done I'm marking this lesson as complete because I think you've grabbed the basics of 3 point perspective.

Thanks for completing the revisions I'm glad that you rotated the boxes up to the four reference boxes on each axis. The ghosted lines were ok too. I'm Marking the lesson as complete on the condition that you'll include the rotated perspective in your warmups from time to time.

Nice work! You really improved on the plotted perspective exercise. However, I'll encourage that you include the organic perspective in your warmups.

Sorry for the late reply though

Pick 2-3 exercises and do them for 15mins before you start drawing

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
