Hello! Today I'll be critiquing your submission. I congratulate you on completing the challenge, it took a lot of effort and patience to finish it. The Boxes in the submission were good, and it gradually became better later within the challenge. The Mark-making was overall decent, and the convergence was alright. Here are some pointers that I have to point out however:

    Inner Corner:

    • This is commonly the problem within the challenge, and in this section, I'll be including and mention the convergence of your Boxes in this section. People tend to have this problem and can even effect the convergence of your Box. The set of lines from your box should be converging into a Vanishing point, and even if it is not accurate, you should strive for it. The reason that I'm mentioning this is because some of the extending lines or the convergence of the boxes are either diverging or converging in pairs.

    • Here are the Boxes that have these errors: 247, 184, and 52 (Blue Line Extensions) are converging in pairs, a proper example of this problem: https://imgur.com/KSHwTwo. Boxes: 248 and 181(Blue Line Extensions) are converging sharply, and boxes: 216, 164, and 103 (Blue Line Extensions), are diverging, a proper example of this problem are blue line extensions of this box: https://drawabox.com/lesson/250boxes/1/convergences.

    • To improve the inner corner, you should change the order of drawing box: https://imgur.com/a/DHlA3Jh. You also have to maintain this relationship between the lines in the set: https://imgur.com/8PqQLE0. It is mainly about the angle of the lines.

Overall, the submission was decent, and the boxes and its convergence improved later in the challenge. Just do some warm-ups before you draw and you'd be fine drawing some fine boxes. Add the Challenge to your warm-ups as well. I also have to mention about the line extensions, you should lengthen them long enough to where you could clearly see where the lines are converging. Other than that, great job. Onward to Lesson 2.

Hello! Today I'll be critiquing your submission for today. Congratulations on completing the challenge, pretty impressive. Looking in the submission, there are some mistakes that have arisen. Mark-making was fantastic, and the convergence of the boxes were good, it improved later in the challenge. Here are some pointers that I have to point out however:

    Draw Bigger:

    • In the submission, there was some pages that have: (1) the amount of boxes ranges from 7 - 8, (2) the page has more space, this is due to the page have less boxes. Stick with drawing 5 - 6 boxes per page so that, you can draw them at a reasonable size. https://drawabox.com/lesson/250boxes/1/assignment.

    Line weight:

    Inner Corner:

    • This is commonly the problem within the challenge, and most people tend to have this problem as well. This can also affect the convergence of the box. Whether it may diverge (Box no. 104, 113 (red extending lines)), converging in pairs (Box no. 88, 146, 190) an example would be this image: https://imgur.com/KSHwTwo, or converging sharply (Box no. 83 (Green extending lines), 110, 132 (Red extending lines)).

    • To improve the inner corner, you should change the order of the drawing the box itself: https://imgur.com/a/DHlA3Jh, and think about the relationship of lines in the set: https://imgur.com/8PqQLE0. It is mainly about the angle of the lines, and these lines must converge as a set.

I also notice some boxes that have missing line extensions such as Box 125, you must draw and apply the line extensions, so that you could check its convergence: https://drawabox.com/lesson/250boxes/1/convergences. I also must mention something, which is the hatching lines, I have growing suspicions that you are haphazardly and quickly drawing them, if you do then, the hatching lines, they fall to the principles of mark-making: https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/3/markmaking. Make them evenly spaced, and parallel.

Other than that, great job, the submission was decent, and again I must congratulate you on completing the challenge. Implement the challenge to your warm-ups, and I also have to recommend you to draw shallow foreshortening, because most of the boxes are in dramatic foreshortening: https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/3/markmaking. Onward to Lesson 2.

Hello! Today I'll be critiquing your submission. But first things first, congratulations on completing the challenge. Looking in the submission, you did great. Mark-making was good overall and the Line-weight apllied was nice, convergence was decent, and I'm facing no issues with Line extensions. The submission was reasonable, however, here are some pointers that I have to point out:

    Draw Bigger:

    • The boxes in the submission were 8 boxes per page, you just have to stick with 5-6 boxes, so that you can draw your boxes in a reasonable size. Moreover, it will allow you to fully engage your arm.

    Inner Corner:

    • This is commonly the problem within the Challenge that may affect the convergence of the box, whether it may diverge (Box no. 109, 118, 128 )or converge sharply (Box no. 5, 22, 57) and make the box even converge in pairs: https://imgur.com/KSHwTwo. (Box 5, 7, 65).

    • To improve the inner corner, you should change the order of drawing the box: https://imgur.com/a/DHlA3Jh. And think about the relationship of the lines in a set, and think about them converging as a set: https://i.imgur.com/8PqQLE0.png.

Again, I congratulate you on completing such tedious challenge. Implement the Challenge to your warm-ups, and onward to Lesson 2.

Hello! Today I'll be critiquing your submission for today! Overall you did a great job within the Challenge. Line work was fantastic, smooth, straight and confident. The line weight applied to the boxes were nice, and the convergence were decent. However, viewing the work submitted, I have notice some mistakes that I have to address.

    Inner Corner:

    • The inner corner is commonly the problem in the Challenge, that may affect the convergence of the Box. To improve the inner corner of the box, you should change change the order of drawing the Box: https://imgur.com/a/DHlA3Jh.

    • In the submission as well, I encountered boxes converging in pairs like box 63, an example of a box converging in pairs: https://imgur.com/KSHwTwo. To improve on this, you should think about the relationships of the lines, instead of thinking it in pairs, you should think about the lines in the set: https://i.imgur.com/8PqQLE0.png.

    • Be on the look out for extending lines that are converging too sharply, Box 161, and diverging, Box 201.

I also notice boxes with no line extensions, you should apply it, so that you can check the boxes convergence: https://drawabox.com/lesson/250boxes/1/convergences, and identify the mistakes.

Congratulations on Completing the 250 Box Challenge! Implement the 250 Box Challenge to your warm-ups.

No problem! If you have any questions regarding the Challenge, I'll answer it in the best of my ability. Overall your boxes were alright, I could mark this lesson complete, because reviewing your work again, you just need warm-ups, and amending this small mistakes. With that in mind, you could still give me the revision, but I'll have to mark this Lesson as complete. I apologize in advance!

    Next Steps:

    Lesson 2

    • Add the Challenge to your warm-ups

Hello! Today I'll be critiquing your submission for today. Congratulations on completing the challenge. however there are problems that I have to mention, I'll make this critique brief as possible so you can give me your revision.

    Convergence:

    • A box in 3 point perspective will always have their line converge. Whether they are shallow or dramatic foreshortening, the edges will always converge, not diverge or be parallel. Most of your boxes are in 0 point perspective https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/8/0pp, which is non-existent, an example would be box number: 2, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 19. The extension of the lines are parallel and not converging.

    • Same as the edges remain parallel, there are mistakes such as lines diverging. An example would be box number: 170, 181, 183, and 184. https://drawabox.com/lesson/250boxes/1/convergences. If you are having trouble with convergence and the lines still diverge, please rely on this tutorial: https://imgur.com/3zoQA65

    • There's also a mistake with boxes and its edges converge in pairs: https://imgur.com/KSHwTwo, take box number: 79 and 85 for example. This is usually an issue within the inner corner of the box. The inner corner of the box is commonly a problem in the challenge. To improve the inner corner of the box, you should change the order of drawing the box, by drawing the inner corner first: https://imgur.com/a/DHlA3Jh.

    • You have to carefully plot out the corners, or plot out as many corners of the box, what you think it is suitable, so that they could maintain this relation: https://i.imgur.com/8PqQLE0.png, and connect the lines when you feel like they are converging pretty well. They should not be converging in pairs, but converging in sets.

    • If you're still having problems with convergence, please read this image: https://i.imgur.com/dMfC42v.png.

    Mark-making:

    • How matter not accurate the line of the box is, you should leave it as it be, and do not repeat it. Executing a line to its plotted dot should only be done once. You should plot the dot of the line from start to finish, applying the ghosting method, and executing the line with confidence over accuracy. I see less of this mistake later in the submission. Hatching lines were decent.

    • Line weight is included in this section, apply Ghosting Method here to ensure smooth and straight line. Similarly to the Superimposed Lines homework, instead of drawing the line eight times, drawing it one time is enough, it's important to keep it subtle, it's fine if it comes out not accurate, leave it be.

Hopefully this critique could be some help with the revision that I have to request. I'm sorry that I can't move you to Lesson 2 yet, but I look forward to your submission that you're going to have to reply. I request 1 page of Shallow foreshortening and 1 page of Dramatic foreshortening, you could read this link regarding both of the foreshortening: https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/10/foreshortening. Please comply!

    Next Steps:

    1 Page of Shallow Foreshortening

    1 Page of Dramatic Foreshortening

Hello! Today I'll be critiquing your work for today.

I'll be dividing your work into three sections: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes:

    Lines:

Starting with your Superimposed Lines, they are looking good. They aren't that much wobbly. However, they tended to arch, especially on the lengthy lines, although, that is to be expected early in the lesson. I recommend drawing curve lines.

Next is the Ghosted Lines, great job. You've drawn the lines in a variety of sizes. Your lines looks confident, straight, and consistent. The lines mostly look accurate, and they were also long rather than short.

Lastly Ghosted Planes, great job. Line confidence is still the same, as well as its straightness and smoothness. You are missing some lines in page one, column one, row three. In the same page, column two, row one, and row two, when the trajectory of the line completely misses the endpoint, you should allow it to happen.

Because of the straight, smooth, and consistent lines, you should now strive for Accuracy. Great Job.

    Ellipses:

Table of Ellipses, good job. Inside the table, the Ellipses have a variety of degrees, orientation, how snug they are, and how well bounded it is. You've drawn your Ellipses three times, however, two is preferable.

Ellipses in Planes, good job. The Ellipses were consistent. However, the Ellipses look deformed and wobbly. You want your Ellipse to be smooth, tight, and confident, that is your first priority. Getting the Ellipse to touch the four sides of the plane is the second priority. Apply the Ghosting Method here, and rely on your muscle memory, and execute the mark without thinking.

Lastly Funnels, great job. The Ellipse aligns with the minor axis and not to loose.

    Boxes:

Plotted Perspective. Nothing much to mention other than the back box being slanted. It should be perpendicular to the horizon. Other than that good job.

Rough Perspective. good job. Some of your line estimations were a bit off, however, you could improve by tackling The Box Challenge. As for the lines of the boxes, you don't need to apply line weight since the boxes don't overlap with anything, and if I haven't mention before, you should not repeat your lines. They can only be drawn once, you should forget about it and move on.

Rotated Boxes, great job. You seem to understand the rotation of the boxes. The back planes of the boxes rotate properly. However, you are missing some boxes to the edges. Line also have improved, when you miss the endpoint, just allow it to miss, since the line could only be drawn once, and you have been given the time to properly execute it.

Lastly Organic Perspective, great job. You seem to understand the depth of the scene, the rotation of the boxes in 3d space, and how it progressively becomes bigger. Line weight will also really help. You will understand more in The 250 Box Challenge.

    Congratulations on Completing Lesson 1!

    Next Steps:

Proceed to The 250 Box Challenge

    • Stay Consistent

    • Follow the 50% Rule

    • Do warm ups

If were the line misses the endpoint, allow it to miss.

Hello! Today I'll be critiquing your work for today.

I'll be dividing it into three sections: Lines, Ellipses, Boxes.

    Lines:

Starting with your Superimposed Lines, good job. You've drawn your lines in a variety of sizes and avoiding the mistake of fraying on both ends. Although, there's a low abundance of curve lines, I really recommend drawing those. As for your lines, the lengthy lines have more wobbles than the shorter ones, that's to be expected, since the shorter lines are easy to draw rather than longer ones. To avoid the mistake of wobbling, I want you to execute the lines with confidence. You also want to adjust the speed of your arm when it's now beginning to wobble.

Next is the Ghosted Lines, good job. You've filled the page with lines, and they vary from different sizes and angles. However, the wobble of the lines is very evident. For this, I want you to prioritize Confidence over Accuracy, with no vestige of Hesitation. Ensure straight, consistent, and smooth lines. Your second aim is Accuracy.

Lastly Ghosted Planes, good job. You've taken a big step of improving some of your lines. Some points still stand such as lines wobbling, just try to keep Confidence in the back of your head. I also have to mention that you don't have to correct the trajectory of the line approaching the endpoint, just allow it to miss.

    Ellipses:

Table of Ellipses, great job. The Ellipse are looking good on how well bounded they are. The variety of sizes, orientation and degrees of the Ellipse, and how they occupy each space inside the table. The Ellipse were consistent and isn't that wobbly. Although, it's preferable to draw your Ellipse through just two times.

Ellipses in Planes, good job. Some of your Ellipses inside the planes were accurate. However, the point still stands that you should draw them just two or three times, I can't really much discern if the Ellipse is wobbly or smooth because of it. The Ellipse aren't much that tight because you've drawn through them a lot. Don't worry if the Ellipse isn't that much accurate, just allow it to miss. Try relying on your muscle memory here, and make the mark without thinking.

Lastly Funnels, great job. The Ellipses align with the minor axis inside the Funnels. It isn't that much too loose, however, some points still stands like drawing through your Ellipse many times.

    Boxes:

Plotted Perspective. There is not much to say other than a great job.

Rough Perspective, good job. Some lines of the boxes were a bit wobbly, and please do not repeat drawing your lines as they can only be drawn once. Your perspective estimation was a bit off, but they can be improved with the 250 Box Challenge. I also notice that you are missing a oage of the exercise.

Rotated Boxes, great job. You seem to understand the rotation of the boxes. Gaps were narrow, and the lines have improved. The boxes running along the horizontal and vertical of the center box, the back planes look seemingly overextended. Other than great job, you will understand more of its rotation in the Box Challenge.

Organic Perspective. First page should be the boxes look progressively bigger in order to convey the depth of the scene. The second, one and three frame is the one you should be aiming for. Other than that good job.

Before I mark this lesson as complete, I must request the following:

    1 page of Rough Perspective

    1 page of Organic Perspective

    Next Steps:

Before I mark this lesson as complete, I must request the following:

    1 page of Rough Perspective

    1 page of Organic Perspective

    Please do comply, and reply.

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
