I wanted to say that I think you have confidence when you put the pen to the page, and it translates into strong and solid brushworks. I think that for the free-form boxes exercise, there isn't a solid enough transition between the box sizes. It ends up removing a lot of depth from the picture. I think the homework is really good and I'm goin gto mark it a complete, but I also think you should focus on layout and composition as you go forward in the lessons!

    Next Steps:

I think working on adding depth and weight to the boxes would be a good next step!

I think you have good strokes, especially since you haven't had the chance to use a felt pen. I think the earlier exercises, particularly the ellipse homeworks, are really well done. I would recommend to just add some extra strokes on the edge of the boxes (particular the silhouettes). This allows the boxes to stand out more, and it makes it easier to understand. The rotated boxes exercise is a bit hard to understand because all the lines have the same thickness. Try to go over the edges that point out of the paper more, and do not go over edges that are hidden or covered by other boxes. Otherwise I think the homework was well done.

    Next Steps:

I think you should focus on having more clarity with your boxes and adding more weight to them.

Color and Light by James Gurney

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
