Hello! Let's take a look at your submission.

    Lines

Your super imposed lines look very confident and straight, I can tell you drew from your shoulder. Your ghosted lines look very good as well, since what matters here is that you took the time to ghost them and did them confidently rather than accuracy (that will be worked on later), even so your accuracy is very good overall! Same with your ghosted planes. You have really good lines!

    Ellipses

Your ghosted planes with ellipses have a bit of wobbling, but you managed to correct it in the last ones, so well done. They also touch all the borders of the planes and you only drew through them twice or thrice, same with the tables of ellipses, there is almost no overlapping and they are tangent. Some of the ellipses in the funnels are not actually divided in two equal halves, but it is a minor mistake and it is only present in some of the ellipses.

    Boxes

Your rough perspective seem to have a bit more of wobbling in the boxes. Remember to draw with your shoulder even if the box is not very big (tip: make your boxes a bit bigger so it is easier to make straight lines sith your shoulders, that will be helpful in the 250 box challenge). Your rotated boxes look great, keep it up! You remembered to change the position of the vanishing points to show rotation, although be careful with the boxes on the lower side, some of them are almost not rotating (still, you did very good) The lines in your organic perspective look more confident, and the boxes do seem to have some perspective to them.

Overall, great job! I am marking this lesson as complete. Now you'll need to move on to the 250 box challenge. It can seem hard, but you can do it!

Also, every 30 boxes or so (or if you have any doubts), you can submit some boxes in the discord server (in #basic challenges), so people will help you correct your mistakes early on. Good luck!

Hello! I'll take a look at your submission. The review will be divided in three, lines, boxes and ellipses.

    Lines

Some of your super imposed lines look a bit wobbly, though it is a bit normal since you had just started and you probably lacked confidence in your lines, remember to always draw using your shoulder! Your ghosted lines look less wobbly, but they do have some arching. A trick to avoid this is to try and arch the line in the opposite direction you usually arch them in. Your lines improved in the ghosted planes, and some even manage to meet all the lines in the center, good job!

    Ellipses

The ellipses in your ghosted planes look fine, most of them manage to be close to the border of the plane, and they look confident enough. The tables of ellipses look really good, although a few of them overlap each other. In the funnels, some of the ellipses are not alligned with the minor axis, remember it is supposed to divide the ellipse in two equal halves, but most of them do, so overall it looks good.

    Boxes

Some lines in the rough perspective look wobbly, but it is normal. I recommend you draw the boxes a bit bigger so it's easier to draw them with your shoulder (that will be useful in the 250 boxes challenge). In the rotated boxes, in the second row, the one at the left and the one at the right don't seem to actually be rotating. Remember their vanishing points actually move when the boxes rotate, so their lines should not converge towards the same vanishing point. In the rough persoeciptive, some of the lines seem to diverge rather than converge, but that is perfectly fine, since that is what you will be covering in the 250 box challenge.

I am marking this lesson as complete, though please review the rotated boxes. I will not ask you to repeat it because most lf them look fine, but just look at the mistake I pointed out. That said, good luck on the 250 box challenge! It's tough but you can do it, keep it up!

    Next Steps:

Review the rotated boxes and move on to the 250 box challenge

    Lines

Honestly not much to say about this one, they look straight and confident. In the ghosted lines there is a bit of wobbling at the end (or start, i don't know since they look almost perfect), and you seem to have drawn through a couple of lines, but overall they look perfect.

    Ellipses

You seem to have drawn through some of them more than three times but they are all tangent, and the planes with ellipses look practically perfect, with your ellipse touching all the borders of the planes. There are one or two that seem a bit wobbly, but overall it looks great. The funnels look good as well, with the minor axis dividing the ellipse in two equal halves.

    Boxes

Not a lot to say about the boxes except that they also look great, rough perspective and rotated boxes are done almost perfectly and the organic perspective looks natural. Great job!

Your submission looks great, and that could be because you have more experience than an actual begginner or because it's not the first time making these exercises. If you are restarting drawabox for some reason or you had previous experience then that's great! I just want to make sure you are not grinding. Your submission is not supposed to look perfect, so you should submit your first attempt even if doesn't look very good, you will make mistakes in this course and it is normal and natural, we should learn to accept our mistakes rather than burn ourselves out trying to make our submissions perfect.

That being said, if you weren't grinding and actually submitted your first attempt then ignore what I just said, I just want to make sure that you don't get burnt out.

I am marking your submission as complete, so good luck on the 250 box challenge!

The first thing that I notice is a bit of wobbling in your super imposed lines. Accuracy is not important there, what matters is that you draw confident straight lines. (drawing with your shoulder helps a lot with this)

Ghosted lines look less wobbly, although a bit arched (it's normal, so just try to arch the line in the opposite direction in which you usually do it). Your planes without ellipses are looking very good!

    Ellipses

Your first ones look great, almost no ellipses overlap each other and there doesn't seem to be any wobbling. The planes with the ellipses are also looking good, though you seem to have drawn through a few of them more than three times. Also your last ellipses don't seem to actually touch the border of the planes. You did the funnels pretty good, the minor axis seems to divide most of them in two equal halves!

    Boxes:

Actually your boxes are looking great too! I can see a bit of wobbling and arching but overall they look good. Your rotated boxes are almost perfectly alligned and all of them actually rotate. Organic pespective seemed to look a little akward at first, but in the last one it look more, well, organic.

Overall I think you did pretty good, so I am marking you as complete. Good luck with the 250 box challenge!

Super imposed lines are looking fine, your ghosted lines however seem to have a bit of wobbling which could be due to a lack of confidence or not drawing with your shoulder (still, it's just a few of them)

Your ellipses also look great, although one or two do overlap each other. You did great in the ghosted planes with the ellipses.

Except the occasional wobbling, your rough perspective looks great, and so does the organic perspective (though some lf the boxes don't seem to be changing much their orientation in space). The rotated boxes also look great, the corners are aligned and there is rotation in all of the boxes.

Overall you understood everything great, keep it up! I am marking you as complete, so good luck with the 250 boxes!

(sorry if some part of the review sounds akward, english is not my first language)

Thank you so much! I didn't expect such a thorough review so thank you for taking the time to critique my exercises, it helped a lot!

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

Right from when students hit the 50% rule early on in Lesson 0, they ask the same question - "What am I supposed to draw?"

It's not magic. We're made to think that when someone just whips off interesting things to draw, that they're gifted in a way that we are not. The problem isn't that we don't have ideas - it's that the ideas we have are so vague, they feel like nothing at all. In this course, we're going to look at how we can explore, pursue, and develop those fuzzy notions into something more concrete.
