    linework:

    Your lines are long and confident however something notice throughout your linework in general is are some bends and curves around the second half/ ends of the lines. IT seems like you are making marks and then halfway through drawing you realize you are going to miss your mark and make a correction. When lines we should prioritize confidence and straightness over accuracy. When drawing lines ghost the motion repeatedly and when tou feel ready to make the mark for real focus on the sensation you have been building up. Addtionally when making liness don't be afraid to place points multiple if necessary to give you a better sense of direction and aiming.

    Planes the issue with your planes mainly stems from your linework. You also have some issues with finding the center point the non corner lines are very off line. When drawing the center lines their is no magic trick but you must make sure they pass throgh the point of intersection between the ellipses. I think what should do is place points on the sides of the planes that have the center point between them.This issue also affects your ellipses. The center of your ellipses should be be at the point of intersection between the corner lines. And the the minor and and major axis of the ellipse are basically the the T formed from the center lines all you have to do is connect them.

    Ellipses:

    Your ellipses in general are ok you are drawing them multiple times. the only issue I would say is moter control which only comes with more practice and ghosting.

    However the tunnel ellipses have a couple problems. First when seem to be having problems with your center line so just to understand you can make the tunnel first and then add the line inbetween. Also rembember what I said eariler about using points to help guide you. I think the crux of the problem is that you are attempting to place to many ellipese in between them The point of the intersection is for them to gradually shrink and then grow back to their original size at the end of the tunnel. addtionally You have a tendency to tilt your ellipses when doing this your eplipses minor axis should be parrallel to the center line you drew. Ideally it should be the minor axis which is it's point.

    Boxes and perspective.

    Your boxes and persepctive in general really need some work. Do note Im not trying to be harsh or mean, but your are fundementally constructing those boxes incorrectly. You should reveiw the concept of a vanishing point. You seem to have intreprested that points making the corners of the box should converge with the vanishing points. You are wrong. The lines between the corners(the edges) converge towards the vanishing point. This is espeacially true with your plotted perspective(the one where you used the ruler. Some of the sides of the boxes are also wrong. When making box you are technially making a collection of planes. And some of your planes are squares they are triangles like bottom of the center box in your organic perspective in the bottom attempt is the best example of this. Thier is a specific technique you will learn later on in the 250 box challenge called the Y method.

    All in all this was a decent attempt good job move on to the 250 box challenge

    Arrows:

    Your arrows are very good your lines are long and smooth and I noticed how you began to employ more perspective as continued doing your arrows

    Sasuages:

    Your full ellipse sasuages have some problems. First most is the center line is very off with some of them and your ellipses because of this it is conflicting with the orientation of your minor ellipses. with your center line. Another problem you have envolves the ends of your sasuages many of them taper off. Don't be afraid to draw your sasauges in parts and ghost your lines. You want them be as close to equal sizes. You are doing good work with the amount of ellipses you are using.

    Half ellipise have many off the same problems except with the number of ellipses. The sasauge in the bottom right corner has to many ellipses and with the center line being off really disrupts the form

    Textures:

    Your texture are a little inconsisten but seem to grasp the idea behind them. Your texture analysis needs more work with detail density You need to work on detail density on your texture studies. Think of detail density as 10 lines that seperate the box. 10-9 being most detailed and 1-0 being the least detailed. As you cross those bounries the deatil has to decrease in levels while doing so you should strive to make it as seemless as you possibley can make it.

    Your texture sasuages follow the same issue because of your lack of detail density control it fells like some times you are operating at level 10 at all times which makes it feel like you are doing it explicitly. Addtionally their is the issue of contours you seem to be struggling with making with wrapping your texture around the form. Don't be afraid to rotate the page to grasp a better sense of how it is sitting in space.

    Form intersections

    Your inorganic form intersections ar very good just rember to be consistent with your perspective and remember to put more emphasis on and lineweight on the connection between the boundries of the individual forms and where those forms intersect.

    Your organic intersections are very good you are keeping the shadows consistent. addtioanlly place more line weight on the outlines of the sasuages themselves so their form intersections don't clash with their neighbors.

    Arrows:

    MY biggest criticsim for your arrows is how you aren't adding perspective to as many as you should it seems like you only used perspective in maybe four total on page two. The ones did use persepctive seemed quite fine.

    Sasuages:

    The issue with your sasuages seems quite common, however their are two aspects to it. First is your overuse of ellipses. when using the contour it is important that we only use them where they are necessary. Draw ellipses to denote key changes in form, it only makes things more cluttered and difficult for you. This compounds with your second issue which is your minor axis. Thier isn't reall enough of a change in your minor axis in many of your ellipses which is breaking your illusion. This is especially clear in your half ellipses. This is scene on the full elipses page with 1,4,7,6, and half ellipses with sasuage 6

    Addtionally many of the half ellipses show signs of hesitation and so look wiggly. Don't forget to ghost your lines and when your're ready to make a mark on the page focus on the sensation of the ghosted movement.

    Textures:

    Your issues with textures are quite common you are focusing too much on the explicit detail not the implicit detail as scene with your grass. Something that helps me to study texture is to think drawing the texture find the cast shadows to focus on drawing the impression of the texture, or rather try to define the texture indirectly. A good example of this was your cat fur

    Form intersections:

    Your form intersections are very good their are some minor hiccups though. When doing form interections be careful where you chose to place them becasue some of the intersections are to close to the natural boundries of the forms themself. A good example is center box of the all box form intersection. The bottom left corner intersection is too close to it's boundry, and is confusing. Becareful where you choose the shading of your boxes because that can interfear with with your intersections as well. Be wary of your choice in perspecitve because different perspectives can interfer with how a person's brain might view the intersection. This is especially true for boxes. Lastly with exception of some sphere and ellipsoid intersections the end point of every intersection must meet at an edge

    Your organic intersections are very good as well no major problems. I would say be more cognizant of where you place your shadows because some of them appear to be opperating under different light sources. This makes it seem like they are in different perspectives. This is seen on the first page of organic intersections the rightmost sasuage shadow is inconsistent with its siblings. Secondly use more line weight to clearly define sasuages and their boundries. Because the contours of the topmost sasuage on the second page of intersections is distracting.

    So far everything seems to be in the clear

    Arrows:

    You seem to be employing perspective in your arrows which good using shrinking and growing in tandem with the arrow's direction

    Sasuages

    The biggest problems seem to be with your orientation and number of ellipses. When doing contours you want to minimize the number of ellipses use this because when your orientation off it can threaten the scanitity of the illusion, and can confusion. This doesn't seem to be too much of a problem on your full ellipses howeever this is more pronouced on your half-ellipsies.

    Texture:

    Now the texture is much more tricky for me. Because it's harder grasp weather or not you have gained an understanding of the main the idea. While you are breaking the shilouette which is good, you some times fail to properly wrap the texutre around the form. The biggest issue is your use of detail. The whole point of this exercise is about implicit detail(cast shadows), where the form blocks light. When using caste shadows the goal should to creat the impression of the form. But the problem with you seem to be to much explicit detail It's muddling up your work. For example the pangolion shell has in my opion to much shadow in some area's which makes it seem like you're drawing each shell explicity. Other times you have the mink fur where you scribble around aimlessly, and Then you have the sasuages where you seem to grasp the concept better. like the stawberry. Here you are drawing the shadow around the seeds. which is what you should be doing.

    Form intersections:

    The biggest problem with your form intersections was on your first page with just squares You seem to grasp the idea of form intersections as you go on, however to to clraify when using form intersections you must show where the surfaces of both forms intersect and how that intersection relates to one of the forms. Which you seem to be doing however you seem to be overdoing and showing the form inside the other is is undermining your work.

    Lastely is your orgnaic form intersections which suffer from the same problem as your sasuage half-contours.

    Arrows:

    Your arrows seem very good all thing considered you are incorperating perspective by having them go from small to big and using shading on folds.

    Sasuages:

    Your sasuages are suffering from two issues that are affecting each other. First and foremost you are using to many contour ellipses this is an issue that comes in tadem with lack of minor axis change. One thing to understand in regards to contours is that you don't need that many of them often you only really need 3-4. When using a contour use them only to show key changes in form.

    Textures:

    You seem be going about many of your textures the wrong way in many aspects. First is your use of detailYour problem is your are explitctly describing the forms when you shold be implicitly describing them. A good example of this is your ivy, mossy ground and, fallen leaves. This leads into your second issue pattern vs texture The problem with all your explicit detail is that it is not giving your sasuage any form. This can also come from detail where it is not needed like your larger crocodile scales and your timber logs the marks on the sides of the log are not implying any texture so it undermines your work making look flat. Third and final is your lake of compensation for the curvature of your sasuage.This also works in tandem with pattern vs texture becasue your are not properly accounting for how the surface of the sasuage changes your marks end breaking the illusion and looking flat. Lastly is breaking the shilouette this is most evident with your water waves, wood chips and flower when breaking the shilloutte it should be used to continue only at the edges it's not something you can just break willynilly. You can' have a form in the middle of your sasuage and then head stragiht of to the boundries without respecting the sasuages contours it breaks the illusion.

    Form intersections:

    Your form intersections primary issue is making it visible to the viewer. The issue is that thier so much visual clutter that it can be diificult to see where the intersections are. When doing form intersections prioritize making it clear and confident rather than making it accurate. Put more emphasis on where the surfaces of the forms intersect.

    2. Any other advice on how to create texture. Because I did my best to take Uncomfy's advice on to just look at everything because everything has a texture. But with the sock the .50 mm fineliner was to big and clusmy to express any of it.

    Pretty good attempt

    The only real problem you seem to have was with your linework specfically your ghosted lines and planes. while confident your lines are they are very wobbly. This means that while you might be using the ghosting method and shoulder pivot you aren't utilizing them fully. You are still drawing by eyesight and not muscle memory. When ghosting the lines focus on building up the senstation of making the mark with your arm. Then when the time comes to make the mark for real focus on that sensation.

    Something to note I cliked on the pages and while they are bigger they aren't big enough for me to see all the details.

    Lines:

    Your linework show great improvement throughout the 250 box challenge however you still show one wobble or curve in a line towards the end the challenge. Your linwork shows you are using the shoulder pivot which is good but you course correct mid draw when you realize that your mark won't reach it's intended destination. So when using the shoulder pivot ghost the lines and try to build up sensation of the shoulder gesture and when you decide its time to mark the page focus on the sensation. Other than that your linework is clean and confident.

    Boxes Constrution:

    Your box construction is very good and I can visually see your improvement. Something to commend is how you took it upon youself to make numerous boxes in different perspectives. You understand the concept of the vanishing point and do your best to make.

    Something to note is that when making boxes with set(s) of lines that don't converge like box 184, you need to be extra precise when drawing those non-converging lines because it makes the flaws more obvious.

    Additionally your external line(s) diverge like box 210 diverge or double converge like boxes that means you need to make sure you are paying attention to the box as whole. Going foreward try to have an idea of where you want the vanishing point to be ahead of time and don't be afraid to make points like in the ghosted lines exercise for each individual line to help you land closer to those vanishing points. Additionally to be afraid to take a step back to reset yourself when constructing boxes it can be quite easy to get tunnel vision.

    Line Weight:

    My only other criticism is the complete lack of line weight throughout the entire challenge When drawing your boxes go over the external lines once again to reinforce the illusion of the box.

    Other than that great attempt good job completing the 250 box challenge.

    Lines:

    your lines are confident but they have a slight tendency to bend especially towards the endpoints which becomes more noticable in your ghosted lines, planes and boxes.When you were drawing a line it looked like you would course correct when you realized you weren't going to reach your distination. Your ghosted lines, planes and boxes also show accuracy issues. Remember when using the ghosting method and shoulder pivot try to focus on making the movement with your shoulder instead of making the mark on the page.

    Planes:

    Ignoring your linework problems your planes are very good a must commend variety of planes you have made. You used forshortening and understand how the center of the plane can change because of this

    Ellipses:

    Isn't anything I feel I can criticize they are tight, accurate, and confident which is very good

    Boxes:

    Aside from your linework I don't think I can critique anything you have some issues with perspective but those are expected. The purpose of the 250 box challenge is to iron those out be so don't hard on yourself regarding your rough perspective attempts.

    Good Job I think you are ready to move on. Just be sure to add ghosted lines, and planes to your warmps

    Lines: It's goo you already know what the problem is with your lines butdon't beat yourself up so much about your lines curving is a common problem they are confident which is way more important. The way the curves are occuring suggest you are using the ghosting method incorrectly. You seem to focus to much getting to the correct page. Instead of making the mark on the page, try to focus on gesture of making the mark through your arm. You also have a minor accuracy issue with your ghosted lines remember focus on making the gesture with your arm not making the mark on the page.

    Planes:

    You seem to have trouble with forshortening planes because your midpoint lines don't meet where the corner lines meet. Remember when forshortened planes are in persepective therefore the experience distortion so the center of the plane is where the x forms. Be sure to add some forshortened planes to your warmups.

    Ellipses:

    Your ellipsies are really good they are tight and accurate and there's no mistake I can identify.

    Boxes:

    Part of the problem with your boxes comes from you issue with woobly lines but we've already addressed that. Other than that are issues with perspective and forshortening but the purpose of the 250 box challenge is to address that.

    Good job you are ready to move on to the next assignment.

Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.

Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.

These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.

We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.

Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
