I completed this challenge back in August of 2022, but never uploaded it because I was 2 cool 4 critique.

Now that I started the course over, I was advised to do 50 boxes instead of all 250 again. The above link goes to those 50 boxes, and the original ones can be found here.

Nowadays the box challenge is divided into three parts. I drew the first 10 boxes following the first part's rules, next 10 with the second part's rules, and the remaining 30 with the third part's.

Thanks in advance for the critique!

hello, i'll be critiquing your homework

the boxes generally appear to get better as you went on,

there were some divergences but they appear less and less often as you moved on

a small thing i notice is that im not sure if you added line weight to the silhouette of each box, it's hard to tell

but mostly i think that you can move on

Next Steps:

  • lesson 2

The recommendation below is an advertisement. Most of the links here are part of Amazon's affiliate program (unless otherwise stated), which helps support this website. It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.
Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
